The cottage actually has two patio areas – one facing east and the other west – so you can always catch the sun no matter the time of day. Upstairs, the bedroom welcomes you with exposed oak beams and a natural stone wall that perfectly complements the black wrought iron bed frame. Step across the hall to discover a beautiful bathroom with a double-ended tub and a walk-in shower. The popular Plas Farm Trail passes right by the cottage's front door, and a short road leads you down to the banks of the River Clydach then into a private bluebell wood. A twenty-minute car ride will bring you to the Brecon Beacons, where you can try your hand at a range of outdoor activities including rock climbing and kayaking. And, if you fancy a day at the seaside, you can drive to the Gower Peninsula in forty minutes to discover hidden beaches. 

Tales from the Mabinogion

Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

It’s a scenic 40-minute walk into the village of Wiseman’s Bridge, or fetch your towel, bathing suit and other paraphernalia to make the ten-minute drive down to the glorious Pembrokeshire coastline and its award-winning beaches.

The golden sands of Saundersfoot Beach are less than a ten-minute walk away, and the charming harbour is even closer. And, with all of Pembrokeshire Coast National Park on your doorstep, you'll love exploring the dramatic landscapes on foot or by bike. 

Seagull's Nest

Found just outside the town of Narbeth in beautiful Pembrokeshire, this home is generous both when it comes to size and the number of distractions that guests will have at their disposal.

Many of these amenities lie out on the grounds, which include everything from a full-size rugby pitch with posts and a zipline to a lake and orchard perfect for peaceful strolls. Add an eight-person hot tub into the mix and you've got a property in which boredom is unlikely to rear its head.

If the sun makes an appearance, why not head for Coppet Hall Beach only fifteen minutes' drive away or one of the huge number of coves and sandy spots that lie along the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path? Alternatively, the charming town of Tenby lies twenty minutes away in the car.

You'll find everything you need for a relaxing coastal retreat in this charming house, be it board games and books or ping-pong and Prime. Every inch is warm and welcoming, with cushy sofas, a crackling wood stove and a contemporary kitchen/diner ideal for rustling up homecooked meals. Upstairs, two sumptuous bedrooms promise a restful night's sleep, but what we love most is the sunlit courtyard. We think it's the perfect spot to lounge with a cup of tea or a refreshing G&T as the day draws to a close. 

Newport is a pretty market town on the north coast of Pembrokeshire, situated at the foot of Carnigli Mountain and the Preseli Hills. There's an array of eateries, including small cafes and old-fashioned pubs, within walking distance, as well as independent shops and galleries. Newport Beach isn't far – about a half-hour stroll along the coastal path – while historic sites like Pentre Ifan, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and Nevern Castle are less than ten minutes by car.

On Gentle Tides

Set on the outskirts of the pretty village of Llanfrynach, on the grounds of a grade II*-listed Georgian mansion, this quaint cottage offers a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The home has been lovingly converted from a workers' house into a contemporary home by your hosts, with meticulous attention paid to every detail. Step inside and head through to the open-plan living room, complete with an atmospheric wood burner and a dining table with plenty of space. The kitchen is equipped with everything you might need to prepare picnic lunches to keep you fuelled up on hikes, plus more elaborate dinners at the end of a long day out in nature. There are plenty of trails leading straight from the front door up onto the high peaks of the Brecon Beacons. Alternatively, enjoy more leisurely strolls along the canal. Despite the easy access to the pristine landscapes, you'll find plenty of pubs and restaurants, as well as a supermarket, within a ten-minute drive. Finally, there's an on-site treatment room where you can indulge in various therapy treatments ranging from manicures to deep tissue massages after a hard day hiking in the hills.

As you look around this home, it becomes clear very quickly that it has been designed to make the most of the beautiful coastal scenery in which this part of south Wales really specialises. In the living room, huge bi-fold doors open up to Juliet balconies that gaze out over Tenby's South Beach, while in the bedrooms there are further balconies, only this time with a view of Caldy Island. With such glorious panoramas, you could be forgiven for not really paying the interior much attention, but when you do get around to it, you'll find a modern space that's simple but effective — we're fans of the minimalist white kitchen, in particular. As you can probably imagine when looking out the window, the beach isn't too far away — just five minutes' walk, in fact. Tenby Castle can be reached in under a quarter of an hour on foot, too.

Swap the big smoke for the great outdoors at this converted barn, tucked away at the foot of Angel Mountain, close to the Pembrokeshire coast. 

Nestled amidst the patchwork hills of the Welsh countryside, you could feel a million miles from civilisation here –⁠ which is just how we like things. But when it’s time for a change of pace, the charming seaside town of Newport (six-minute drive) is an afternoon well spent – as is the mighty Pembrokeshire Coast National Park with its vast sandy beaches and secluded coves (eleven-minute drive).
 
Back at this quirky bolthole retreat, exposed stonework shows the bones of this barn's past, while vintage furniture and objects de art add layers of interest and heaps of style. A home for all seasons, on long summer nights, slide the bifold doors right back and stoke up the barbecue – the firepit will help keep the night flowing as a carpet of stars appear overhead.
