This grade II listed Georgian House in Ludlow is everything we look for in a quiet village getaway. Rebuilt and lived in by former glove makers from the late 1600s, this home is steeped in history, dating back to the Civil War – and doesn't it show. There are heaps of original features to these cosy digs. We especially love the handmade oak doors, wood beam ceilings and intricate fireplace that have been professionally restored by master craftsmen. While these period features add interest, the comfy living room is our favourite spot, with its realistic optimyst stove and large L-shaped sofa. Toast up those toes in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine in hand – you'll feel all warm and homely in no time at all. Step outside of this 17th-century building and explore one of the loveliest market towns in England that's positively brimming with listed buildings, medieval castles and striking churches. Take a short twelve-minute walk up Corve Street to the town centre and explore this historic place for yourself. 

Hand In Glove

A lot of things have changed since this cottage was built in the nineteenth century, but we're willing to bet that the surrounding view of the Upper Towy Valley and Cambrian Mountains is just as mesmerising as it was all those years ago.

Inside, a couple of period features also remain, like the mighty stone fireplace that acts as a natural focal point in the living space. However, there have been enough contemporary additions to ensure that the address well and truly belongs in the twenty-first century. You only have to look at the modern kitchen, the bedrooms painted in a soothing white and the subway-tiled shower to see what we mean.

Out through the front door, there's a small patio with seating so you can admire the gorgeous scenery and watch the neighbouring sheep – which sometimes come to graze right up to the home's windows. Come nighttime, stargazing is made all the more beautiful by the fact that the property sits in a designated Dark Sky area, free of light pollution. 

This part of South Wales is an excellent location for walkers and cyclists, as the Brecon Beacons National Park can be reached in around twenty minutes' drive, going through the town of Llandovery in the process.

Green Hill

With its rugged cliffs, miles of sandy beaches and hidden coves, North Pembrokeshire is a natural haven. And this cosy barn makes the perfect setting to discover the timeless beauty of the Welsh countryside.

Set on an old organic farm and surrounded by trees, the barn has been thoughtfully renovated to provide a sanctuary in the heart of nature. It’s the kind of space where you can embrace a more simple existence – one that is rich in warmth and comfort. 

From preparing breakfast in the kitchen to reading on the mezzanine, it’s easy to slow down and savour the elements that make this home special. 

Outside, you can wander through miles of beautiful countryside towards the beach or make your way into the village of Saint Dogmaels – only a twenty–minute walk. Here you’ll find a wonderful village shop, an award–winning farmers market (held weekly), ancient abbey grounds and a couple of great pubs. 

And when your bags are full of fresh, local produce you’ll love coming home for a cosy evening by the fire. 

A Wilder Place 

Nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside, this rustic holiday home is the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway with family or friends. Once a working granary, this cosy cottage has been converted into a stylish home for up to six people, boasting three comfy bedrooms and a gorgeous, wraparound garden, ideal for soaking up some of that elusive British sunshine. Savour a cup of tea on the secluded patio, show off your culinary skills on the barbecue or throw on your swimming costume and treat yourself to a long soak in the outdoor hot tub as the sun dips down between the distant hills. 

If you fancy something less sedate, you’re within easy reach of the River Dee here, perfect for leisurely lunchtime walks with your fellow guests. Burn off any excess energy with a bracing hike through the countryside, then come home and snuggle up by the fire. We don’t know about you, but we can’t think of a better way to spend the day.

Right as Grain

Tucked away in a valley at the heart of the Black Mountains, this sprawling home is a dreamy countryside escape. The home is split between an old farmhouse, a cottage, and a studio-style barn, making it a marvellous choice for group getaways. It’s in a stunning location and offers absolute peace and quiet, as well as privacy. If you’re looking to go off-grid and surround yourself with nature, you’ll love this home. 

The farmhouse is as traditional as they come, with wood beams and a roaring fireplace. In the mornings, cook hearty breakfasts on the AGA while enjoying the outstanding views of the valley from the kitchen window. From almost every angle here, the views captivate. 

Perhaps you’ll lace up your boots and head out on a nature walk. There’s an acre of woodland on the 40-acre farm, as well as a stretch of river for you to paddle in. There’s direct access to the Brecon Beacons National Park from the back of the farmhouse, so you won’t run out of hiking or cycling routes. 

When you return after a day exploring the Great Outdoors, you’ll be glad of the mountain spring water hot tub. Fire it up and soak your aching muscles, then spend the rest of the evening playing board games in front of the fire. 

The nearest pub is a fifteen-minute drive, and the cafes and bookshops of Hay-on-Wye are twenty-three minutes away. It may feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but you can grab a pint or a slice of cake easily enough. Perfection. 


Serenity in the Black Mountains

Live like a lord or lady of the manor in this fine Georgian mansion house. Whether you're taking along your friends, family, or colleagues, you'll settle into this luxurious setting in no time at all. Access to the home is via a private lane near Princes Gate, meaning that it's a secluded spot where you can truly relax. Inside, the home is the perfect blend of old and new, where traditional touches meet modern convenience – enjoy underfloor heating and state-of-the-art kitchen appliances alongside gorgeous period details. Outside, you'll find a mixture of formal gardens and private woodland to explore. There are plenty of adventures to be had here, but you simply must explore some of the gorgeous Welsh countryside too. Pembrokeshire National Park is right on your doorstep, where you can hike, cycle, or even pony trek through the stunning landscapes. The pretty market town of Narberth is a five-minute drive away, and Telpyn Beach is just over ten minutes away by car. And, when you return home after a busy day, the outdoor hot tub is waiting for you – it's the ideal way to relax under the stars. 

Pembroke Peace

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

Paths to Dawn

If you’re looking for a peaceful escape to the Brecon Beacons with a few luxuries thrown in, this is the cottage for you. Set within 12 acres of estate grounds, there are plenty of walks for dogs and humans alike. If you’re seriously into your hiking, then the trails right from the cottage’s front door into the peaks of the Brecon Beacons (including Pen Y Fan) won’t disappoint. For the more sedate option, follow the flat canal path into the charming town of Brecon for cafés and shops. On returning, treat yourself to a complimentary massage at The Treatment Studio in the estate. The cottage itself radiates history from its old stone walls and low, timber-beamed ceilings. A little library of books and wood-burner in the living room adds to that away-from-it-all feeling. In the kitchen and living room, the flagstone floor is heated underfoot so there’s no sacrificing comfort for aesthetics here. Upstairs, the master bedroom comes with a glorious sleigh bed to send you off to sleep. 

Bothying In Style

Enjoy a cosy stay within easy reach of Cardigan Bay at this recently renovated apartment. Light, contemporary and filled with character, the one-bedroom home is a comfortable base to explore this scenic corner of Wales.

If you lean towards industrial interiors, you'll be pleased to spot the exposed brick walls and reclaimed wooden floorboards that give the living space its distinctive edge. The adjoining kitchen is bright and modern, with a dining nook that boasts views over the colourful village street below. 

Not only does this stylish apartment come equipped with everything you'll need for your stay, but it's also well placed to explore the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. Situated in the pretty village of Saint Dogmaels with pubs and markets on your doorstep, you're just fifteen minutes from Cardigan's sweeping sandy beaches. Take your time as you glide along the coast and keep your eyes peeled for hidden coves nestled beneath the craggy cliffs.

Brick & Timber

Through walls of glass, this Criccieth home welcomes the outdoors in. And when you catch a glimpse of the sea views from almost every corner of this home, you’ll know why it caught our eye. Having appeared on a couple of popular TV shows, it’s no surprise that this modern marvel is a perfect place to stay for friends and families alike. Cool and contemporary inside, it’s quite the contrast to the rugged landscape surrounding it. Just take care with the cliff edge – little ones and four-legged friends will need to be supervised. 

Clifftop Dream

Nestled among the Herefordshire hills, this handsome house is a rural retreat you’ll really love. There’s elegance at every turn, from the drawing room overlooking the surrounding scenery, to the warm and welcoming kitchen which has space for casual meals. Period charm pairs perfectly with modern comforts, like the media room, and there’s a practical boot room too (handy after a country stroll). It’s the ideal home to host an extended family or group of friends – great for a special occasion, or for a grand getaway to the country.

The Great Retreat

Just outside the picturesque village of Llanfrynach, on the grounds of a grade II*-listed Georgian mansion, this one-bedroom cottage is all about rest and relaxation. This former coach house has been converted into a stunning contemporary space. Downstairs, the sitting room boasts sky-high ceilings and ten-foot-tall French doors leading out onto a private patio. The wood burner and deerskin rugs on the floor add a cosy feeling that's perfect for the colder months, while during the summer, you can throw open those doors and let the outside in. The cottage actually has two patio areas – one facing east and the other west – so you can always catch the sun no matter the time of day. Upstairs, the bedroom welcomes you with exposed oak beams and a natural stone wall that perfectly complements the black wrought iron bed frame. Step across the hall to discover a beautiful bathroom with a double-ended tub and a walk-in shower. If you can tear yourself away, there are plenty of leisurely walks and challenging hikes directly from your front door. There are options for all levels, from high peaks to gentle canalside strolls and everything in between. Despite the secluded location, plenty of pubs and restaurants, as well as a supermarket, within a ten-minute drive. After a hard day of hiking in the hills, why not treat yourself to a relaxing massage in the on-site treatment room.
