At this lovely stone farm cottage, adopting the slow pace of nature and taking it easy is widely encouraged as you unwind in its fairy tale atmosphere and quirky interior. Located within a courtyard of a working farm, it’s an animal lover’s dream – not to mention the well-known farm shop on your doorstep so you can pack the country-style kitchen with fresh, local produce. When you aren’t snuggled up on the sofa or catching a quick cat nap in your rustic bedroom, you can sip your morning coffee on the private patio, taking in the blooming garden, while saying hello to a cow or two. We can vouch for the panoramic views over the rolling green hills and country fields too. Although two people can enjoy the comfortable bed, we would happily stay here alone for a calming solo trip. Guests are welcome to wander around the extensive garden, which even includes a picturesque bridge over the lilly pond (don’t worry, we’ve checked for trolls). And if you can drag yourself away from the peace and quiet of your pretty barn conversion home, you can spend days exploring the beach at Colwyn Bay, or the promenade of Llandudno, and even the mountains of Snowdonia National Park. All located within a 15-minute drive.

This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

We may have found the most adorable home for two. This former milking parlour is one of a small group of cottages in the heart of the Anglesey countryside. Rural, secluded and perfectly in tune with nature, it’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down. Wander down secret paths in the extensive grounds then take a seat on the deck to watch the dragonflies hovering above the water. The fishing lake is well stocked and there can surely be few more idyllic places for casting a line. Inside the single-storey stone cottage, you’ll find pine furniture, pretty coordinating fabrics and a log burner to warm your toes by. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. Stock up for supper in the bustling market town of Llangefni, before hunkering down for the night together. 

The Milk Room

Enjoy a secluded getaway in the heart of North Wales with this charming traditional cottage located on an estate. The estate is a beautiful agricultural property that features miles of private, wooded paths for guests to explore and enjoy. The cottage has been carefully renovated to retain its country charm while adding modern touches of comfort throughout. The living area contains two comfortable sofas snuggled around a wood burning stove, while the large and light kitchen is a good place to relax too, with its oak floor and large range oven and hob. The elevated position of the cottage offers panoramic views over to the Carneddau mountains, which you can enjoy from the southerly facing terrace that overlooks the fields and forests below. The property sleeps four guests across two bedrooms and two bath/shower rooms. Up to two well-behaved dogs are welcome, and there are parking spaces for three cars.

Little Wren

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Mynyddoedd Brig

A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world. 

Pheasant's Feather

Explore Anglesey from this east-coast escape, just steps away from the coastal path – which offers a 130-mile circular route past the island's secluded coves, vast sandy beaches and captivating villages – it's an ideal base for hikers and bikers. However, with far-reaching sea views from all rooms at the front of the house and the front garden seating area, you won't have to move far to appreciate the island's beauty. Centrally located in the quaint former fishing village of Moelfre, you'll find a convenience store, a couple of cafes and a pub a short stroll away, while it's a five-minute drive to the neighbouring village of Benllech, where there are a couple of supermarkets for stocking up on essentials. 


Seen From the Sea

Picture the scene — you've just spent a long day in the great Welsh outdoors and you're faced with the choice of snuggling up by the crackling log burner, lying back into a steamy bath or sitting out in the garden and watching the sky go through its dramatic daily transformation. It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Charming where it sits on a bend of a lane in rural Dolwyddelan, this terraced stone cottage has become a welcoming base for small families or groups of friends exploring Snowdonia National Park. From the back garden, where a hot tub and dining table are perfect accompaniments to sunny days, you can also enjoy views of Snowdon and Moel Siabod. The kitchen is small and best suited to small bites, but you're close to several restaurants in the town centre. Cosy, bright and brimming with character, this home is also 6km from Betws-y-Coed Golf Club and 18km from Penmaenmawr.

The Copse

This eclectic cottage lies in the North Wales countryside, bursting with colour and ideal for those looking for an outdoor escape. We think it's great for families, with your host providing a cot and high chair for little ones and allowing up to two dogs to join you. Books and games are provided for entertainment, and the wood burning stove adds that extra layer of homeliness. You'll have easy access to Snowdonia, Moel Siabod, and Conwy, making this home a great stay for hikers, bikers, and anyone hoping to explore the Welsh coastline.

Welsh Wisteria

This three-storey Grade II-listed stone holiday farmhouse is located on an agricultural estate in North Wales. A cosy farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, it has been sympathetically restored with many period features such as oak and slate floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, wooden and slate floors, and a wood-burning stove. A separate annexe provides accommodation for two guests. Pets are welcome for an additional charge. Fishing permits can be purchased so guests can spend a day catching fish. Explore over 20 miles of private paths that run through woods and farms across the estate or visit the world-famous Bodnant Garden owned by the National Trust. Llandudno's sandy beaches are within a 15-minute drive along with a number of Welsh castles, including Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Harlech, Dolwydellan, Denbigh and Rhuddlan – all within easy striking distance.
