This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

Located within a courtyard of a working farm, it’s an animal lover’s dream – not to mention the well-known farm shop on your doorstep so you can pack the country-style kitchen with fresh, local produce. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer.

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. A cosy farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, it has been sympathetically restored with many period features such as oak and slate floors, vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, wooden and slate floors, and a wood-burning stove. A separate annexe provides accommodation for two guests. Pets are welcome for an additional charge. Fishing permits can be purchased so guests can spend a day catching fish. Explore over 20 miles of private paths that run through woods and farms across the estate or visit the world-famous Bodnant Garden owned by the National Trust. Llandudno's sandy beaches are within a 15-minute drive along with a number of Welsh castles, including Conwy, Caernarfon, Beaumaris, Harlech, Dolwydellan, Denbigh and Rhuddlan – all within easy striking distance.

Various activities are on offer nearby such as Zip World Fforest, Adventure Parc Snowdonia, Welsh Mountain Zoo, sandy beaches of Llandudno, Conwy and Colwyn Bay are within about a 15-minute drive.

The Amaranthine

Once the former shooting residence of the Earl of Marlborough, this charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Snowdonia carefully stitches together history and contemporary design. Original slate floors and a huge inglenook fireplace contrast against modern additions such as the sleek roll-top bath and luxurious hot tub. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where your clan will spend time eating, drinking and playing card games if it tips it down outside. Light the wood-burning stove to keep the chill at bay or warm up with a brisk walk to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog – you’ll get there in under an hour if you go at a decent pace. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

Old Slate

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

Paths to Dawn

Charming where it sits on a bend of a lane in rural Dolwyddelan, this terraced stone cottage has become a welcoming base for small families or groups of friends exploring Snowdonia National Park. From the back garden, where a hot tub and dining table are perfect accompaniments to sunny days, you can also enjoy views of Snowdon and Moel Siabod. The kitchen is small and best suited to small bites, but you're close to several restaurants in the town centre. Cosy, bright and brimming with character, this home is also 6km from Betws-y-Coed Golf Club and 18km from Penmaenmawr.

The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

Nestled away in the beautiful Conwy Valley, this charming dog-friendly cottage makes the perfect base for those who'd like to explore Snowdonia National Park. This home sits in a peaceful location just a 15-minute drive from Betws-y-Coed, ideal for when you want to find village pubs and independent shops.
