Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

Your morning coffee comes with a view here, as many bedrooms step directly out onto the terrace, while the large alfresco dining area will be popular when the sun's out. Indoors, the games room and indoor swimming pool will compete for your attention during the day, and there's even a cosy cave bar for nightcaps. And although you'll feel far removed from the city here, you're just a few miles from several local pubs, and Wrexham and Chester are a quick drive if you want to explore.

Meanwhile, the gorgeous Lake Bala and the nearby village of Bala are only ten minutes away by car.

At night, settle down by the fire pit and enjoy those clear, peaceful skies, before snuggling down inside onto the couch with a warming brew and if you can find it, a sweet slice of Bara birth – a traditional Welsh tea bread.

This home is one that lends itself to any occasion. Rich colours, exposed brick, and traditional touches make the living room cosy and inviting – you’ll love settling into the snug armchairs in the morning, with the light piercing through the windows, while the warming log-burning fire cuts through the early cold. Your kitchen is just as cosy and comforting, but it’s also practical. It’s kitted out with top-notch appliances that make home-cooked meals a breeze, while the dining room invites family and friends to settle in for light-hearted evenings of good food, games, drinks, and conversation.

If you're a keen birdwatcher, you'll love this home's location on the banks of Foryd Bay, a nature reserve in North Wales that sees huge numbers of different species migrate to the area for winter. However, even if your interest in wildlife is less obsessive, we're sure you'll still fall for the sweeping views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia in the other direction. The cottage is certainly geared up for just sitting back and marvelling at nature, with huge windows in the living room, as well as a roof terrace and a hot tub in the enclosed garden facing the water for when the weather's more agreeable. When the sun's gone down, you'll find this home the epitome of cosiness, especially with the fireplace crackling away and the whole party snuggled up on the comfy sofas surrounding. Although you'll find the immediate surroundings beautifully tranquil, there's plenty of action nearby if you seek it. Dinas Beach is only ten minutes away in the car, while the world's fastest zip line can be enjoyed — or not — at Zip World Penrhyn Valley, just over half an hour's drive away.

The Twitcher

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

Set within the grounds of a Grade II listed Georgian house, you’ll be welcomed by peaceful gardens and a wonderful sense of character. It’s worth noting there are steep stairs leading up to the main floor and the garden is shared with the owners, but there are plenty of quiet spots to discover and you will have access to a private hot tub (with views overlooking the orchard). Breakfast is included, children’s amenities can be provided and you'll find a lot to explore in the surroundings – Market Drayton is just over a mile away.

This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

Having appeared on a couple of popular TV shows, it’s no surprise that this modern marvel is a perfect place to stay for friends and families alike. Cool and contemporary inside, it’s quite the contrast to the rugged landscape surrounding it. Just take care with the cliff edge – little ones and four-legged friends will need to be supervised.

This grade II listed Georgian House in Ludlow is everything we look for in a quiet village getaway. Rebuilt and lived in by former glove makers from the late 1600s, this home is steeped in history, dating back to the Civil War – and doesn't it show. There are heaps of original features to these cosy digs. We especially love the handmade oak doors, wood beam ceilings and intricate fireplace that have been professionally restored by master craftsmen. While these period features add interest, the comfy living room is our favourite spot, with its realistic optimyst stove and large L-shaped sofa. Toast up those toes in front of the fire with a good book and a glass of wine in hand – you'll feel all warm and homely in no time at all. Step outside of this 17th-century building and explore one of the loveliest market towns in England that's positively brimming with listed buildings, medieval castles and striking churches. Take a short twelve-minute walk up Corve Street to the town centre and explore this historic place for yourself.

Every care has been taken to modernise this Victorian cottage without diminishing its period charm. We love the old-world touches, like the cast iron heaters, sparkling chandeliers and ornate vintage mirrors. Escaping from the hustle and bustle of the big city is a no-brainer here. Throw open your windows in the morning, and you’ll hear birdsong – you might even see a passing deer or two. Whip up a quick breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen, and then put on your walking shoes. Miles of open countryside await right on your doorstep – the cottage is at the end of a drive where the village gives way to the natural world. You can spend entire days hiking the patchwork of fields and farms crisscrossed by a web of brooks. You’ll quickly work up an appetite after all that exploring. You can grab a meal in the village pub, the local chippy or the Tandoori restaurant. With a shared courtyard garden to enjoy – whether in the morning over coffee or the evenings with a sunset glass of bubbly – you’ve got everything you need for a comfortable stay. Outside of your home, the ancient ruins of Clitheroe Castle are a three-minute walk away, while the Forest of Bowland is a five-minute drive (or just under forty minutes away on foot). Factor in the walks along the River Ribble and the charming shops and pubs right on your front door, and there’s no end to the enjoyment this perfectly positioned home provides.

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The Bodnant Estate offers ten luxury self-catering cottages, including Ty Newydd, sleeping eight guests, and Lletty, sleeping six guests. The estate features hilly and wooded countryside in the lower reaches of the Conwy Valley and various houses and cottages available for rent as holiday lets. Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.
