This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The Bodnant Estate offers ten luxury self-catering cottages, including Ty Newydd, sleeping eight guests, and Lletty, sleeping six guests. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

The views from this coastal cottage are nothing short of cinematic. Looking out over the Llyn Peninsula you’ll see winding coastal paths, sandy beaches and the silhouette of a castle in the distance. This home makes the most of the breathtaking views with a spacious conservatory (the most popular room in the house) and plenty of outdoor seating. There’s a wood-burning stove in the living room’s old stone fireplace and cosy bedrooms are characterised by bright wallpaper and contemporary furnishings. The kitchen is plenty large enough to fit you all at breakfast time and there's a formal dining room for evening meals. The Wales Coast Path can be accessed from the gate in your garden, and from there it's an easy walk to Criccieth Beach or Black Rock Sands. And, if for any reason you tire of the seaside, you're less than an hour’s drive from Snowdonia.

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

With five bedrooms, a long sycamore dining table and luscious green lawns, there’s no excuse for not inviting the whole family for a trip to this Welsh farmhouse. The 16th-century building is full of historical details – look out for the old baking oven, chapel benches and even a coat of arms on the ceiling. There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

On a sunny day at this home on the Llŷn Peninsula, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on a little island somewhere much closer to the equator. The garden blooms with tropical plant life – palm trees are dotted everywhere and the air is scented with fig leaf. Down below are the glimmering waters of the sea, and there’s no better place to admire the view than from the outdoor hot tub.

The house is a quick walk to Machroes Beach, a long sandy expanse perfect for splashing around in the shallows or practising a wide range of watersports like sailing and windsurfing. Follow the coastal path which runs close to the house, for rambling walks through stunning scenery. Machroes Beach backs onto Abersoch golf course, where you can have a swing and a putt on their 18-hole course overlooking the ocean.

The White Rock

You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. There's a lovely view of this hilly terrain from the home's private garden, which comes with a gas barbecue and plenty of seating for when the weather plays ball. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Both Criccieth and Aberdesach beaches can be reached in under a quarter of an hour in the car, while you can also visit the old slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog, only a half-hour drive away.

Slate Stream

Charming where it sits on a bend of a lane in rural Dolwyddelan, this terraced stone cottage has become a welcoming base for small families or groups of friends exploring Snowdonia National Park. From the back garden, where a hot tub and dining table are perfect accompaniments to sunny days, you can also enjoy views of Snowdon and Moel Siabod. The kitchen is small and best suited to small bites, but you're close to several restaurants in the town centre. Cosy, bright and brimming with character, this home is also 6km from Betws-y-Coed Golf Club and 18km from Penmaenmawr.

The Copse

This lovely home is ideal for a Welsh getaway with family or friends. It’s a cosy cottage in a converted barn complex, surrounded by sea views and Llyn Peninsula’s countryside scenery. You’ll feel a million miles from the stresses of everyday life – if you want to unwind and focus on making memories, this home is an excellent base. 

The cottage is comfortable and warm, with king-size beds and a splendid open-plan living and dining space. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to start each day with a cooked breakfast – tuck in and get set up for a day of exploring. 

You might drive seven minutes to the beach at Traeth Porthor to paddle and skim stones. Slightly further afield, the Trefor Sea Stacks are forty-eight minutes away by car and well worth a visit. The cottage is less than a mile away from the Wales Coast Path, so you’re never too far from those stunning sea views. 

Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out.

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

Ocean's Dance

What could be more romantic than a tiny cottage in the country? This pretty little home on the Llyn Peninsula is surprisingly modern thanks to its recent refurbishment. Comfortable and stylish, it's the perfect retreat for couples trying to get away from it all. Set in a secluded rural area, with great walking on your doorstep, it's about as far from the madding crowd as it gets. There's a lawned garden and little deck to enjoy the views from, and inside you'll find a log burner to warm up even the chilliest of evenings. The building retains character features like a vaulted ceiling, beams and a mezzanine level, but it's been smartly modernised to provide an open-plan living space with a fabulous kitchen and breakfast bar, as well as a cosy seating area with patio doors to bring the outside in. And our favourite part must be the en-suite bathroom with its contemporary bath and walk-in rain shower. Special touches like the robes, slippers and a welcome pack of goodies make this place a real treat. Less than a fifteen-minute drive to Pwllheli, and ten to Abersoch, there are loads of great beaches, village pubs and local shops to explore nearby. 

Enola

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

Sat atop a hill at the foot of Snowdonia National Park, this 400 year old stone cottage has been lovingly renovated to create a comfortable retreat packed full of countryside charm. Inside, original ceiling beams and an inglenook fireplace create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Look forward to spending blustery days holed up in the cosy living space before sitting down to a home-cooked roast dinner in the farmhouse-style kitchen. 

When the sun makes an appearance, spill out into the garden with a jug of Pimm’s and admire your unspoilt surroundings from the picnic bench. If you’d like to expend some energy, lace up your hiking shoes and follow one of many bridleways that unfold from your doorstep. Should a beach day be on the cards, Black Rock Sands Beach is less than a twenty-five-minute drive away. 

After a day of sea swims and windswept coastal walks, nip into the town of Porthmadog for fish and chips by the harbour and a well-deserved pint in a traditional pub.

This rustic cottage is a truly magical place to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Nestled in Snowdonia National Park, it's a secluded spot where you can begin your adventures in the epic landscapes of West Wales. 

The exposed stone exterior exudes rural charm, and are plenty more enchanting features to admire inside. You'll love the antique Welsh dresser, the ancient oak beams, and the inglenook fireplace. Light up the wood burner and get cosy on the sofa to watch your favourite movies on chilly evenings. And, when the sun is shining, you can head outside to the garden and admire the gorgeous views over a craft gin and tonic – perfection. 

The pretty town of Dolgellau is conveniently just two miles away, where you can pick up supplies and enjoy a pint in one of the local pubs. Thrill-seeking cyclists will be delighted that there is world-class mountain biking around ten miles away. And, hikers can lace up their boots to hike up rugged Cadair Idris, or join the Mawddach Trail for a more leisurely walk.

Though the interior is nothing out of the ordinary, the home is well-kept and has some great features, including a playroom with books, games, and even a wooden horse. Right in the heart of Dolgellau, this home makes for an excellent base for exploring the nearby mountains, villages, forest and coastline. If you want to get out and see the Great Outdoors, this is a marvellous choice indeed. You can walk nine miles from your front door along an old railway line to reach Barmouth and its pretty beach, where you’ll tuck into fish and chips and breathe in the sea air. The walking route to Cader Idris in Southern Snowdonia is just fifteen minutes away, ideal for experienced hikers. Mountain bikers can head to Coes-y-Brenin Forest Park to let off steam. For a gentler excursion, you might stroll to the local shops, to a cafe for lunch, or to a pub for a post-hike pint. 

After a day spent outdoors, you couldn’t ask for a more warm or welcoming home to return to. Rest your weary feet in front of the log burner in the inglenook fireplace, or curl up in the reading nook with a book and a cuppa. The lounge boasts vaulted ceilings and tall windows and is a lovely place to gather together. Play board games or get competitive playing table football. Let's answer the obvious question straight off the bat – what is that spaceship-looking thingy sitting just outside the home? Well, it's a garden pod in which you can relax and dine with a view of the Irish Sea, just in case the weather ever takes a turn for the worse. Of course, it's not always wet in Wales and if it's too nice to be cooped up inside, there's seating out on the decking, as well as an acre-size lawn.

All this and we haven't even got around the apartment itself, which is bright and inviting thanks to the large glass doors at the far end of the space and stark white walls. Both the bathroom and kitchen are pleasingly contemporary, although the more culinarily ambitious should note the absence of an oven. To top it all off, the host has a rather psychedelic taste in artwork, which adds a bit of character.

When the sun makes an appearance, you can be standing on the sands of Traeth Aberdaron in two minutes' walk from the front door. In the surrounding village, there's also direct access to the Wales Coastal Path so you can continue in either direction to see dramatic landscapes and a diverse collection of native wildlife.

Beach Longing

This home in the charming coastal village is Abersoch is strikingly modern, with sleek glass dominating the facade, all the better to take in that sea view. You’re within walking distance of the beach – the soft sand of Abersoch Bay is three minutes on foot. If you want something more grand and sweeping than the harbour-side beach, head to Porth Neigwl, a six-minute drive away. The home itself has some serious wow-factor, starting with the hot tub in the garden and plush rattan sofa set on the patio, perfect for evening cocktails or barbecue lunch. Inside, you’ll find the main living room on the top floor, taking advantage of a view over the village out to where the fishing boats bob out at sea. It’s part of an open-plan living area that spreads across the whole top floor, all natural light from walls of glass and sleek eave angles. Bedrooms are all on the ground floor, with the master opening up to the private garden.
