You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. There's a lovely view of this hilly terrain from the home's private garden, which comes with a gas barbecue and plenty of seating for when the weather plays ball. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Both Criccieth and Aberdesach beaches can be reached in under a quarter of an hour in the car, while you can also visit the old slate mines at Blaenau Ffestiniog, only a half-hour drive away.

The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. With Anglesey’s dramatic coastline just a short drive away, big surf and blustery coastal walks are in plentiful supply. When we say this is a historic home, we really mean it. A Roman bathhouse is said to have once stood here, and the current house could be the oldest in the county of Gwynedd – it dates back to around 1543. There are period features everywhere, from the inglenook fireplace to the traditional wooden beams and even an arrow-slit-style window. The garden is just as magical and makes a lovely spot for mealtimes or a relaxing glass of wine while admiring the bluebells. A pond, plenty of trees and a small stream, make it a haven for local wildlife too.

Snowdonia is a twenty minute drive away, where adventurous types can climb hills and ride through jaw-dropping natural mountain biking trails and valleys to their heart’s content. With expansive views across the marvellous countryside, farming fields, and further to the mighty Cadair Idris, this home is the epitome of a rural retreat. Despite feeling like you’re a million miles from anything, the charming seaside town of Barmouth is just a mile away.

Stepping inside, you’ll find a surprisingly contemporary interior, with sleek finishes and modern furniture. But the place retains its original cosy charm, with several log-burning fireplaces setting the tone for a heart-warming stay. And best of all, the views follow you around the home – the owners took full advantage of the countryside location during the renovation. The best place to take it in, of course, is in the garden. Savour warming coffees on the patio, watching the lambs frolic around the fields during the spring. Follow the path right outside your door down to the estuary for a refreshing start to the day. 

Being in Snowdonia, you don’t need us to tell you about the wealth of walking routes and scenic points within easy reach. Cadair Idris and Snowdon are the big hitters, but there are endless trails to discover. And for a quintessential day of fish and chips, ice cream, and arcade games, head to Barmouth. 

Following the Views

A true escape set along a forestry track, this home is in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park. With epic views of the surrounding Coed y Brenin forest and the Cadair Idris mountain range, it's remote and it's beautiful. Nature lovers will delight in the private garden, complete with a built-in barbecue for summer evenings, and in the master bedroom's balcony – the perfect spot for morning coffee before the rest of the gang have woken up.

As a building, it's typical of the area – a stunning stone-built farmhouse with bags of character features and plenty of cosy nooks to hide away in with a good book. We love the living room with its enormous wood burner and the conservatory with the best view in the house. A large, eat-in kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need for cooking at home and there's a big dining table for all your group's meals.

With great hiking and biking on your doorstep, and just a forty-minute drive or so to the coast, it's an excellent spot for exploring further afield. And don't miss the chance to climb Snowdon – or catch the train if you'd prefer to see the summit without the work.

Theory of Relativity

You'll find this rural retreat just where Snowdonia's mountains meet the sea. With views over the Mawddach Estuary and Cader Idris beyond, this place is just a five-minute drive from the seaside resort of Barmouth. A traditional stone cottage in a rural spot, this lovely place has a few surprises up its sleeve. Far from old fashioned, its interiors are modern and crisp – mixing character features like the old inglenook fireplace and oak beams with inset lighting and neutral decor. And although it feels like a remote location, you're conveniently close to town. We love the pretty master bedroom, with its vaulted ceiling and metal bedstead. From here it's just a stone's throw to the Panorama Walk, which has some of the best views in Snowdonia. Further afield you can visit old slate mines, hop aboard heritage steam trains and explore some of Wales' ancient castles. If seaside activities are more your thing, you can do everything in Barmouth from kayaking and paddle boarding to sandcastle building. The town is packed with quirky shops, cafes and pubs, so there are plenty of options for eating out. Back at the cottage, sit outside before bed and take in some of the best stargazing skies in Wales.

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery. 


Sandcastles & Salty Air

With five bedrooms, a long sycamore dining table and luscious green lawns, there’s no excuse for not inviting the whole family for a trip to this Welsh farmhouse. The 16th-century building is full of historical details – look out for the old baking oven, chapel benches and even a coat of arms on the ceiling. Kids and teenagers will be glad to know they can escape to the den, complete with toys, bean bags and games – there’s even a games room, where young and old alike can get competitive playing table tennis and foosball. With plenty to keep the children entertained, enjoy a cosy evening beside the roaring fire, while admiring the rustic beamed ceilings and brickwork hearth as you catch up with relatives, get lost in a good book or even fit in a little snooze before dinner. A short eleven-minute drive will take you to Denbigh Castle, with its ancient walls and bustling art scene in town. You can also head to the long sandy beaches of North Wales in less than half an hour by car, or pull on your hiking boots and enjoy a stunning walk through the Vale of Clwyd – it is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all.
