You'll find this handsome stone cottage in a rural hamlet right on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, just a thirty-minute drive from the base of the famous mountain. Inside, there are both rustic and modern aspects. A log-burning fire sits in the corner of the living space, for example, but the kitchen has a Quooker tap for instant boiling water and the bathrooms would be right at home in any slick urban apartment. However, we all know that it's the great outdoors that's the big attraction in Wales and there are endless adventures to be had on your doorstep. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

This rustic cottage is a truly magical place to spend some quality time with your loved ones. Nestled in Snowdonia National Park, it's a secluded spot where you can begin your adventures in the epic landscapes of West Wales.

Thrill-seeking cyclists will be delighted that there is world-class mountain biking around ten miles away. And, hikers can lace up their boots to hike up rugged Cadair Idris, or join the Mawddach Trail for a more leisurely walk.

When we say this is a historic home, we really mean it. A Roman bathhouse is said to have once stood here, and the current house could be the oldest in the county of Gwynedd – it dates back to around 1543. There are period features everywhere, from the inglenook fireplace to the traditional wooden beams and even an arrow-slit-style window. The garden is just as magical and makes a lovely spot for mealtimes or a relaxing glass of wine while admiring the bluebells. A pond, plenty of trees and a small stream, make it a haven for local wildlife too.

Snowdonia is a twenty minute drive away, where adventurous types can climb hills and ride through jaw-dropping natural mountain biking trails and valleys to their heart’s content. Dwyfor Rabbit Farm delivers fun family activities where you can feed the bunnies. Take a walk along the golden sand, spruced with pebbles and a rocky area that lines Criccieth beaches, exposing rock pools at low tide. Come home for a soak in the Victorian tub, a warm drink by the fire, and then climb into the antique French bed to dream about the days to come.

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This traditional North Wales cottage once housed the local bakery. Small and perfectly formed, it’s the perfect spot for a romantic getaway for those that love the great outdoors. The quarryman's slate facade is iconic to this area of Wales, blending right into its bucolic surrounds. Inside, black wood ceiling beams whisper of the cottage’s past, and a plush suede sofa invites you to settle in to the living room. There’s plenty of room to rustle up something hearty in the modern, white kitchen, or opt for a barbecue on the little side terrace (a real sun trap), where the view is nothing but fields for miles. Use this cosy bolthole as a base for exploring Snowdonia National Park, one of the last truly wild spaces in the UK. The village of Trawsfynydd is right in the centre of the National Park, close to a large reservoir where you can walk, cycle or fish. There are plenty to do in the wider area, from hiking Mount Snowdon to visiting the Italian-inspired Portmeirion village. 

The Local Bakery

This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). Two dogs are welcome to join you here, plus there’s a sweet welcome pack with Prosecco provided for your arrival. Outside, you’ll find everything you could need on the doorstep. From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

Sea on the Horizon

Picture the scene — you've just spent a long day in the great Welsh outdoors and you're faced with the choice of snuggling up by the crackling log burner, lying back into a steamy bath or sitting out in the garden and watching the sky go through its dramatic daily transformation. This is the sort of difficult decision you face when you choose this cute cottage as your next getaway.

This is a home that's completely dedicated to cosiness, right down to the rustic decor touches, like the wooden ceiling beams and soft furnishings. Another way to feel completely at peace is by looking through the wide window in the master bathroom, which faces Malltraeth Marsh, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest that's great for birdwatching.

It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Migratory Patterns

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

With five bedrooms, a long sycamore dining table and luscious green lawns, there’s no excuse for not inviting the whole family for a trip to this Welsh farmhouse. The 16th-century building is full of historical details – look out for the old baking oven, chapel benches and even a coat of arms on the ceiling. Kids and teenagers will be glad to know they can escape to the den, complete with toys, bean bags and games – there’s even a games room, where young and old alike can get competitive playing table tennis and foosball. With plenty to keep the children entertained, enjoy a cosy evening beside the roaring fire, while admiring the rustic beamed ceilings and brickwork hearth as you catch up with relatives, get lost in a good book or even fit in a little snooze before dinner. A short eleven-minute drive will take you to Denbigh Castle, with its ancient walls and bustling art scene in town. You can also head to the long sandy beaches of North Wales in less than half an hour by car, or pull on your hiking boots and enjoy a stunning walk through the Vale of Clwyd – it is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

The Marquess

Nestled in the tranquil village of Rowen in North Wales, this charming cottage promises a relaxing retreat. A home for all seasons, colder months can be spent snuggled up by the wood burner, while in summer, the garden is a serene spot to enjoy alfresco meals as you listen to the babbling river running by. When you’re ready to venture out, you’ll find historic Conwy, Llandudno, Betws-y-Coed and a selection of beaches all within easy reach – however you like to spend your time, there’s something for everyone here. 

River Reverie

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The Bodnant Estate offers ten luxury self-catering cottages, including Ty Newydd, sleeping eight guests, and Lletty, sleeping six guests. This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. You'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere as scenic and relaxing as the Llyn Peninsula. Walkers will revel in the famous Llyn Coastal Path, which leads you onto the lovely beaches of Porth Towyn and Porth Ysgaden. The area's Irish Sea stems off into emerald pools, backed by hills carpeted in lush grass and flowers – it's truly enchanting.
