This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

This home was once a hayloft in a former life — the original circular window on the front is so shaped for pitching hay through — but today it's a perfectly cosy space for a rural getaway. Despite this functional heritage, you can safely banish any thoughts of cramped living quarters. Illuminated by a series of skylights, guests get access to a recently refitted kitchen that is plenty big enough for cooking up hearty dinners, as well as a lounge with comfy furnishings for sprawling out upon after long country walks. There is no shortage of outdoor pursuits to undertake in North Shropshire and just across the Welsh border, including wandering along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, only twenty-four minutes away in the car. The Boat House gastropub on the outskirts of Ellesmere is only six minutes' walk away, too.

This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). Two dogs are welcome to join you here, plus there’s a sweet welcome pack with Prosecco provided for your arrival. Outside, you’ll find everything you could need on the doorstep. From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

Once the former shooting residence of the Earl of Marlborough, this charming Grade II listed cottage in the heart of Snowdonia carefully stitches together history and contemporary design. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. This home in the heart of Chester is full of thoughtful touches like fresh flowers, a breakfast hamper, books and board games for the children, and even yoga mats and blocks should you feel the urge to ‘om’ while staying here. From the peace and quiet of the street, you’d never guess you were just a two-minute walk from Chester’s historic centre. Almost all the town's biggest sights are within walking distance in fact – you’re minutes from Grosvenor Park, the River Dee, Chester Racecourse, and the Roman Amphitheatre. Built in the 19th century, the house has been fully renovated and has a bright, fresh feel to it that is instantly welcoming. Decorated in refreshing whites, there are bright splashes of orange, green, and yellow to greet you in the morning. And after a day of sightseeing, the courtyard garden is a suntrap and the perfect place to enjoy a refreshing drink or reviving cup of tea.

Pause For Thought

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

And breathe. Surrounded by open fields, enjoy the blissful Shropshire countryside from a quintessentially English cottage farmyard. Amidst rural nature, it's hard to believe you'll actually only be a ninety-minute drive away from Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham in this secluded spot – situated a five-minute drive from the village of Maesbury. Not far away from the Welsh borders, when here it's time to restore your energy and escape the mundane for a luxury cottage retreat. Boasting characterful traditional features and bags of rustic charm – rather surprisingly the home does not compromise modern home comforts. Welcoming and cosy, the interiors reflect the countryside setting from the moment you walk through the stable-like door. With original oak beams and reclaimed wooden panelling, the open plan ground floor centres around the kitchen and lounge area. Think handcrafted redwood, a wood-burning stove as well as antique trinkets and furniture throughout. Alongside the traditional log burner, an eco-friendly, wood-pellet underfloor heating system provides constant hot water. From the kitchen, head out to the private patio area for a cup of tea in the fresh country air. Guests can also access a larger, less private, courtyard which offers a perfect sun trap from which to enjoy the summer's sun. All around the farm, you'll find peaceful places to relax and explore – over by The Orchard there's a spot for children to play freely and there's even a barbecue area in an adjacent field. Between the cottage space, additional accommodation, expansive farm grounds and surrounding fields, this dreamy location is a suitable address for group retreats or workshop weekends amongst other things.

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. Your morning coffee comes with a view here, as many bedrooms step directly out onto the terrace, while the large alfresco dining area will be popular when the sun's out.
