The garden has a serene summerhouse, but the best place to absorb the peaceful surroundings is from the heated hot tub. Drift away in the warm bubbles while contemplating the scenery of the rolling countryside. It’s a scenic 40-minute walk into the village of Wiseman’s Bridge, or fetch your towel, bathing suit and other paraphernalia to make the ten-minute drive down to the glorious Pembrokeshire coastline and its award-winning beaches.

Perched on the banks of the Teifi estuary, this renovated former sea captain's villa in southwest Wales treats guests to some spectacular waterside views. On sunny days, these can be enjoyed on the large terrace, whether that's reclining in one of the loungers, lying in the hammock or sitting around the alfresco dining area, waiting for dinner to be served off the barbecue or out of the pizza oven. However, the sparkly panorama can just as easily be appreciated from the huge windows in the open-concept kitchen-dining area or from the bedrooms. Although this Pembrokeshire apartment underwent a recent renovation, one thing that hasn't changed is just how peaceful the view from the balcony is, with the unmistakably blue waters of Carmarthen Bay peering through the trees. It may not be the biggest outdoor space in the world, but this seaward orientation makes up for it.

Inside, the glass doors in the main living area are especially generous when it comes to natural light and this dances pleasingly off the wooden floors and white walls. When it comes to the design, it's a pretty simple affair with only a few pieces of coastal artwork nodding to the location, but it's all been executed pretty well, particularly the sleek kitchen and bathroom.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, the centre of Saundersfoot and its beach is all of five mintues' walk from the front door. The town of Tenby is also only ten minutes' drive down the coastline and offers visitors a castle and a selection of galleries to visit.

When Mary Ann Evans paid a visit to this home in 1857, she was inspired to write a novel. A year later, Scenes From A Clerical Life was published under the nom de plume George Eliot and over the course of the next twenty years, she would write some of the most influential books of the period, including Middlemarch and Daniel Deronda.

No pressure to anybody coming to this four-storey, Grade-II listed townhouse in the present day, then. Straight away, you can see why it had the power to rouse dormant literary ambitions — the view from the huge windows of Tenby Harbour is nothing short of sublime. Even though the interior has been updated in the proceeding two centuries, there are still signs of the home's heritage, from the high ceilings and tall windows to the original wooden floorboards in the hallway.

If you ever need a break from working on your manuscript, Castle Beach takes all of a minute to reach on foot, as does the 12th-century landmark that lends the sandy spot its name. Catching the twenty-minute ferry to see the abbey on Caldey Island is well worth doing, too.

Speaking of, we can't help but swoon over the verdant, lush landscape that awaits you outside. So as well as having cosy country pubs and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on your doorstep, it’s just a six-minute drive into the centre of Tenby to explore the castle and beach. The home itself stands bay-windowed and bold, bright white against the blue sky. Built around 1840, it’s a Grade II listed building with two acres of stepped, walled garden to explore. Terraces with panoramic sea views, a swimming pool with adjoining hot tub, flowerbeds bursting with bloom and secret grottos fill the grounds. When dinner calls, there are plenty of places to dine – the sunny orangery that opens out onto the terrace, the sunny cubby hole in the kitchen or in the long, formal dining room. Chefs of the group can cook in the family kitchen, or leave it to a professional and make use of the catering kitchen in the basement. Down here you’ll also find the private bar and games room, like your own personal pub. Bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes to fit couples and kids, and our favourite has to be the master with its hand-carved four-poster bed and view of the sea from the bay window.

Surrounded by a sweeping lawn with ample seating and a hot tub, it's perfect for family getaways. High ceilings, statement fireplaces and wooden floors all add to the antiquated charm, and though the style might not be for everyone, it's comfortable and spacious. Plus, the coast is minutes away for sunny days at Telpyn Beach. There are also harbour towns and golf courses to explore within driving distance.

The baby-blue kitchen is both super-sleek and big enough for cooking up hearty meals, while there's also a private courtyard outside just in case the weather's nice enough to dine alfresco.

If that's the case, there's plenty to see and do in this south Welsh idyll. Tenby Castle is only ten minutes' walk up the coast, as is the town's Museum and Art Gallery. This area by the North Beach is also where you can catch a ferry to Caldey Island, on which you can visit the monastery and spot some of the diverse wildlife.

This Grade II listed seaside cottage is the perfect base for relaxing breaks on the Pembrokeshire coast. It was lovingly restored and modernised in 2021, so while it still retains its historic charm – and traditional features and layout – it’s now a wonderfully comfortable and cosy cottage. 

The cottage sits just across the road from the sea, so you can be paddling in the shallows of Dale’s beach in no time. From the water sports centre in Dale, you can try your hand at any number of activities, including sailing, surfing, and kayaking. We’d be tempted to give paddleboarding a go, followed by a hearty meal in the award-winning village pub. Of course, you might choose to fish for your supper instead?

Nature-lovers will have plenty to keep them entertained too, with a whole host of coastal walks to enjoy. You might partake in a spot of bird watching on the Gann, or take the ferry to Skomer Island to see the puffins in summer. 

However you spend your days, you’ll be glad to have such a pleasant home from home to return to. When the weather is fine you can tuck into picnic lunches on the front lawn, and admire the sea view as you dine. When it’s a little colder, nothing beats curling up in the living room to play board games together.

After a day of swimming around, we recommend stopping by a cafe for some tea and Welshcakes.

You'll feel pampered when you return to your cosy home, from a welcoming living room decorated with plush sofas to polished wooden floors and a fireplace to make you feel at ease. The baby blue kitchen is gorgeous, perfect for preparing a hearty meal after a day of seaside adventures. But you have to remember to start your day stepping through the french doors into the south-facing garden with your morning mug of coffee for the brisk air.


Cyan Coast

Discover the beauty of the South Pembrokeshire from this stunning beachfront base, situated in the small seaside resort of Saundersfoot. More compact than nearby Tenby, which lies a few miles to the south, the place has a unique charm all of its own.

South-facing sea views grab all the headlines here, with large windows in the open layout living area/kitchen, plus direct access to a private balcony ensuring you can make the most of the unparalleled location. 

The interior decor is no less eye-catching, with mid-century style leather seating, a wood burner set into the wall, plus a subtle maritime theme, with hints of blue and wood cladding that reminded us of the side of a beach hut.

Sharing the open-plan space is the kitchen, with the sink set up so you can look out at the waves as you wash up the bits and pieces that won't fit in the dishwasher. Rather sensibly, the hob and oven face the opposite way, to minimise distractions. With dinner ready, it's down to you to plate up and grab a seat at the rustic yet elegant dining table.

Elsewhere, the two bedrooms keep up with the nods to the nautical setting, with striped wallpaper and sea-themed artwork adorning the walls.

In addition to the expansive beach, the old tramway route that connected the coal port to mines at Stepsaside survives as a spectacular section of the picturesque Pembrokeshire Coast Path. It's 186 miles long in total, but we'd recommend dipping in and out to walk along particularly panoramic parts.

Those who prefer their outdoor activities more action-packed will find some of Pembrokeshire's finest surf spots within a twenty-mile drive. A particular standout is Freshwater West, which is hailed by many as the most reliable break in the land of dragons and daffodils.

From Tenby With Love

Set above the sea, a three-minute walk to North Beach, this stylish home is perfectly positioned for exploring the heart of Tenby and the Pembrokeshire Coast. Inside, there’s an open-plan living space with a moody blue and grey colour scheme, creating a sophisticated yet cosy feel. We particularly loved the subtle nautical nods and funky artwork. On chilly days, warm your toes by the fire or sip a mug of hot tea by the enormous bay windows, watching as the waves break on the shore. Cook up your favourite dinners in the flash kitchenette – but not before you’ve sampled fish and chips from D.Fecci and Sons on lower Frog Street, some of the best in town. When the sun shines, make a beeline for the placid waters of Castle Beach and explore Tenby Museum and Art Gallery, the oldest of its kind in Wales. If you’d prefer to expend a little more energy, it’s an hour’s amble to Saundersfoot. 

What A Catch

Bookended on one side by Saundersfoot and the other by Narberth, this home in Ludchurch is in an excellent spot for exploring Pembrokeshire's coast. A ten-minute drive away is Telpyn Beach, but just a little further is Tenby, home to pretty pastel houses, narrow lanes lined with boutiques and pubs, and not to mention the five award-winning beaches. As far as locales go, it's pretty ideal – close to the seaside, yet tucked away in the countryside for extra tranquillity. And the views from this home aren't bad, either. Stretching out over the countryside and towards the sea, the best place to take it all in is the private hot tub. Pour yourself a glass of wine and sink into the bubbling waters, watching as the sun slowly sets and the stars come out. Inside is cosy and warm, with a comfortable living area and a sleek kitchen that makes cooking up a storm easy. Everything is on the ground floor, so it's very accessible – the en-suite in the main bedroom even has a roll-in shower, support aids and emergency pull cords. We think a family would be pleased to call this place home during a stay on the Welsh coast.

You'll find everything you need for a relaxing coastal retreat in this charming house, be it board games and books or ping-pong and Prime. Every inch is warm and welcoming, with cushy sofas, a crackling wood stove and a contemporary kitchen/diner ideal for rustling up homecooked meals. Upstairs, two sumptuous bedrooms promise a restful night's sleep, but what we love most is the sunlit courtyard. We think it's the perfect spot to lounge with a cup of tea or a refreshing G&T as the day draws to a close. 

Newport is a pretty market town on the north coast of Pembrokeshire, situated at the foot of Carnigli Mountain and the Preseli Hills. There's an array of eateries, including small cafes and old-fashioned pubs, within walking distance, as well as independent shops and galleries. Newport Beach isn't far – about a half-hour stroll along the coastal path – while historic sites like Pentre Ifan, Castell Henllys Iron Age Village and Nevern Castle are less than ten minutes by car.

On Gentle Tides

With its baby blue timber exterior, the long shady verandah that skirts around the side of the house and the verdant surroundings, you could be excused for thinking this house was in the Deep South. And it is in a way, just not the USA. It's actually in the deep south of Wales, part of Trefloyne Manor Golf Course and Spa. Guests can access both of these facilities for an extra fee, as well as the bar and restaurant which sit just a few minutes' walk away. The inside of the home has the feel of a secluded forest cabin, thanks to the wooden ceilings, floors and walls. However, the smart design of the address means it can adapt to the seasons — there's underfloor heating for the colder months and glass doors leading out to a balcony for when the sun makes an appearance. When the weather does look bright, Tenby's South Beach can be reached in fifteen minutes on foot, while the town of Penally can be reached in twenty.

Blue South Wales

Sweeping beach views from the big bay windows and nautical touches to the decor – there’s no doubt you’re by the sea in this grand apartment. Right on the shorefront in the charming seaside town of Tenby, you can watch the waves roll in and out as you take breakfast at the sunny dining table. The open living area is an opulent medley of high corniced ceilings, bold midnight blue walls and tufted velvet sofas. Quartz-topped and tucked into an old archway, the kitchen is a shining example of modernity amidst the Georgian-style furnishings. If the view isn’t reminder enough, nautical-themed object d’art like a boat’s helm on the hallway wall and coastal pictures in the living room whisper of your seaside locale.
