Refined and exclusive, this large home is tucked away on the outskirts of Souda, a few minutes' drive from Chania. And while it's convenient for the beach, restaurants and nearby shops, you could easily convince yourself you're in a more secluded, rural location thanks to its green scenery. With a huge walled garden, where you'll find a gorgeous pool, cypress trees and olives, it's your own slice of paradise.

Inside, there's flexible accommodation thanks to a second living room and kitchen, while the main space is contemporary, fresh and minimal. Whites and creams make the place feel cool and calm, and there's a glossy, new sheen to everything. We love the high-tech kitchen, with its wine fridge, ice machine and every other gadget you can think of. And while whipping up a meal in here is a real pleasure, there's also a barbecue in the summer kitchen by the pool. Bedrooms and bathrooms are plentiful and countless glass-enclosed balconies mean everyone gets a great view. We particularly love the Jacuzzi bathtub, where you can really relax in peace and quiet. 

But it's the outside space that really makes this home shine. Its pool is surrounded by a large terrace, with plenty of sun loungers, and while the lawns are ideal for letting the children run wild, there's another section of garden to explore with lemon trees, grapevines and an organic garden with Mediterranean vegetable and fresh herbs – any of which you're very welcome to cook with.

While away by the infinity pool, you take in the sublime setting with a drink in hand. You won't have to go far to stay hydrated, as the villa boasts its pool bar, with a fridge and stools that give the feeling of being in your private taverna. 

The modern architectural design presents a space that harmonises with the surrounding landscape and garden. Keeping the kids entertained here couldn't be easier with a Mediterranean botanic garden (featuring a small river) and a children's playground. Did we mention there is also a private wellness centre that features a gym, sauna, steam bath and opportunity for an at-home massage in the villa too? Meaning the adults of the group can dedicate some well-deserved time to relaxation and leisure just as much as the children. 

A separate studio space that sleeps two guests independently from the rest of the house (with space for an additional two people on the sofa bed) allows for privacy and practicality when travelling as a large group. 

Admire the unforgettable sunsets from one of the many outdoor seating areas before making the most of the outdoor cooking area and serving up some locally caught fresh fish on the barbecue. Then, once your stomachs are filled, head over to the hidden cave – which has to be our favourite spot on the home. Presenting a cosy space to unwind with a bottle of wine and board games, you don't get to relax in unique settings like this one every day – and that's a fact. 

Positioned just a ten-minute drive away from Chania Town, when you can bring yourselves to leave this sanctuary of paradise – an abundance of local restaurants, shops and bars await your discovery.

With a truly enviable location on the north Cretan coastline, this recently built villa comes chock-a-block with pleasant surprises.

It makes sense to start outside as it's likely that guests will be spending a great deal of time here. A swimming pool sits in the middle of this space and is surrounded by loungers, umbrellas and an outdoor shower. Just beside, there's a shady pergola with seating and you'll also find another covered terrace with a barbecue closer to the house. Add to this a vegetable and herb garden that guests are free to pick from, as well as a children's play area, and you have distractions for all ages.

The home itself benefits from a balcony from which you can survey the grounds, but don't completely neglect the interior. You won't be surprised to learn that the property was only built at the start of the 2020s — there's a very contemporary feel to the decor, from the inbuilt fireplaces and glossy kitchen surfaces to the equally modern bathrooms. Both floors have their own kitchen and living room for added flexibility, and there's also a billiards room too.

When you fancy an afternoon at the seaside, Golden Beach can be reached in only three minutes in the car, while the historic landmarks and shops of Chania take just longer than ten minutes.

When you fancy a day on the coast, Kalamaki Beach is only 150 metres away, so grab your towel and sprawl out on the sand. Just a little further is Chania – a ten-minute drive – where museums, eateries and the Venetian port promise plenty of adventures in the Cretan sun.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, this wonderful villa offers a slightly different option for large groups travelling together that want the option of privacy. It looks like one property from the outside, but each floor is a separate apartment in itself, each with a lounge, fireplace, kitchen and dining area. The upper storey has a balcony, but the lower level has direct access to the garden.

We don't like to pick favourites, but we'd probably plump for the ground floor, purely for the reason that it would get us to the home's wonderful exterior that little bit quicker. Out here, you'll find a long saltwater swimming pool, a covered barbecue area and a dining area underneath a pergola where you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. All of this is set in a pleasant plot populated by olive trees, aromatic herbs and Mediterranean flowers.

Another perk is that there are beaches in pretty much every direction you head in, with the closest — Agios Ounoufrios — only ten minutes' walk away. Chania Town only takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, as well.

The centre of resort town Kounoupidiana is a three-minute drive, or twenty-minute walk, where you’ll find shops to stock up on groceries and restaurants aplenty. If you feel like heading into the charming town of Chania to explore its Venetian port, it’s a twenty-minute drive away.

Marble pillars and a midnight-blue tufted sofa create a sense of opulence inside, alongside sparkling, tiered chandeliers and polished marble floors. This place is like your own private palace, with golden accents and Grecian urns throughout. Bedrooms are lavish retreats with gilded frames around flatscreen TVs and marble-clad bathrooms. None are more indulgent than the family bathroom with its marble pillars in black and gold and a sunken bathtub for soaking with something bubbly.
