Take your pick of outdoor spaces to enjoy an apéritif as you drink in the scenery and if the coast starts calling your name, you’re in luck – the nearest beach is just twenty metres away. With sandy shores and shallow waters, it’s a popular spot for watersport enthusiasts and families alike.

Blessed with a privileged position overlooking Vasiliki beach, this beautiful hillside villa is perfectly placed for a blissful Greek retreat on the island of Lefkada.

The villa's interior is elegantly simple, with a well-equipped kitchen leading directly to an outdoor dining area with a retractable awning so you can seek solace from the heat of the midday sun at lunchtime before dining under the stars in the evening. 

Upstairs, the two bedrooms benefit from jaw-dropping panoramas, private outdoor spaces and their own en-suite bathrooms. The curved design of the main bedroom is a particular highlight and offers 270-degree views over the surrounding landscape.

Lesser known than Corfu to the north and Kefalonia to the south, Lefkada is where you want to head for some of the best beaches this side of the Indian Ocean. With secluded coves, golden sands and crystal-clear waters, you've got all the ingredients for a picture-perfect escape. The nearby western coast will dazzle you with its beautiful beaches, such as Porto Katsiki​, fifteen kilometres away. 

Closer to home, the village of Vasiliki is something of a watersports and windsurfing mecca with a pebble and shingle beach that makes for stunning clear seas. There are plenty of traditional tavernas and lively bars, particularly around the harbour, where you can practically eat with your toes in the water.

Bright, modern and only 350 metres from Vasiliki Beach, this villa is an excellent choice for a family or close-knit group of friends wanting to while away the hours in the sunshine. Roll out of bed and onto the balcony to bask in the morning breeze. Should you start to feel peckish, put together a platter of fresh produce in the kitchen and dine outside in the shade of the covered terrace. 

When the sun reaches its highest point, slink into the private pool and cool off with a couple of unhurried laps. Loll about on the loungers or take a break from the heat and relax in the breezy living space – we loved the juxtaposition of the curved wall and sharp lines of the contemporary furnishings. If exploring is on the agenda, take the short five-minute drive into Vasiliki village. Watch the boats to and fro from the picturesque port and feast on delicious Greek cuisine in waterside tavernas.

Set on a gently sloping hillside above the semi-circular bay of Vasiliki, this home has amazing views of the sandy, family-friendly beach of Ponti. There’s a sparkling private swimming pool and sun terrace for those long sunny days. Inside, the minimalist chalet-style decor lets the wonderful sea vistas do the talking. Location-wise, it’s 1.5 kilometres to the nearest taverna and 200 metres further to the sandy beach of Ponti (remember to wear comfy shoes if you decide to walk, as it's uphill on the way back). This area is perfect for wind and kite surfing, kayaking, yachting, and scuba diving too, making it a perfect base for active and leisure travellers alike.

Few views are more breathtaking than this. Luckily, you'll be able to make the most of them from the radiant terrace and oodles of outdoor spaces – every nook and cranny, both inside and out, shows off the Ionian Sea glistening on the horizon.

Morning, noon or night, a home like this calls for spending every spare moment outside. Rise with the sun each morning and savour a coffee on the balcony, then pad downstairs for breakfast on the terrace. Enjoy long, lazy afternoons splashing in the pool, snoozing on the lounge chairs and watching the waves crash on nearby Vasiliki Beach. Craving the feel of the sand between your toes? Grab your bag and set off for the shore – it's just a brisk 450-metre stroll away.

Where the Sun Paints the Sea

On the southern coast of Lefkas, the azure waters of the Ionian Sea stretch out for miles. This island plays host to the spectacular Mount Elati, and the foot of the mountain is just a fifteen-minute drive from this coastal villa. En route, you’ll also pass by the Fabbrica Olive Museum, housed in an old olive oil factory. But if you’re more interested in beaches, you’ll have plenty of choice too.

Six minutes from Vasiliki Beach, this villa stands tall by cliffs that are simply made for panoramic views. In traditional style, the home has white plaster balustrades around its terrace and balconies, as well as terracotta roof tiles and native foliage at its entrance. However, the interiors are surprisingly modern. Understated furniture, a white tiled floor, and a neutral colour scheme allow for the main feature to stand out – that view. 

Open the curtains to see rolling hills, quaint coastal towns, and of course the big blue sea. And if you peer over the edge a bit more, look down to your very own covered terraces, and a pool area on the lower ground level. Sun loungers, a stone-built barbecue, and parasols complete the poolside vibe, with striking views continuing over the edge.

With one of the best views we've seen on this beautiful island, this newly-built home is an understated slice of magic. Set on a green hillside overlooking the glittering sea, it'll be an effort to do anything but sit and stare when you first arrive.

Part of a small cluster of similar homes, this one stands apart from the others so it's perfect if privacy is high on your agenda. Handbuilt by the owner in a traditional style, there are two floors – each with its own kitchen and independent entrance but linked internally by stairs – so it offers some flexibility. And best of all, there's plenty of outside space to enjoy that view from. Walk across to your private pool and comfy sun loungers await on the stone terrace, surrounded by fragrant wild herbs and olive trees, all with staggering views – especially at sunset.

Elsewhere, five comfortable bedrooms – three upstairs and two on the ground floor – make this home big enough for a large group of friends or a couple of families holidaying together. With a shared living room and a choice of dining spots outside, it's easy to spend time all together or to find some privacy.

For the more adventurous, a steep hike leads down to a little private cove, where clear waters and a white pebble beach are yours to enjoy. Not the easiest walk and likely to take you around twenty-five minutes, it's well worth it to dive into those turquoise waters. The owner even runs yoga and wellness retreats where you're encouraged to get closer to nature.

With some of the more popular beaches within a twenty-minute drive, along with the pretty, hillside village of Athani, there's lots to see and do away from the villa too.

Standing on top of a hill on the southern coastline of Lefkas, this stone villa not only has a beautiful view of the dazzling Ionian Sea, but the neighbouring islands of Ithaca and Kefalonia can also be spotted.

It's a truly idyllic backdrop against which guests can embrace the alfresco way of life, whether that's paddling about in the swimming pool, soaking up the sunshine while reading on a lounger or dining under the pergola. There's a stone barbecue to help make the last of these a reality, too.

When you eventually head into the home, you'll find an interior that adds a modern spin to the traditional whitewashed design synonymous with Greek islands. Two living rooms provide plenty of space in which to relax, while the Jacuzzi bathtub in one of the ensuites is another superb option.

We're guessing you didn't come all the way to Greece not to visit the seaside and Vasiliki beach, plus a small selection of restaurants and bars, is only ten minutes away in the car. There's another smaller sandy spot that can be reached by walking forty-five minutes from the home, as well.

On the outside, this charming villa has an old-world appeal, with its red wooden shutters, rust-coloured tegula roof and classic stone façade. But step inside and you'll find bright and open living spaces, sleek bathrooms  (one even has a jacuzzi-style tub) and bedrooms as comfortable as they are stylish. We think it's the perfect family home – and with views like that, it's hard to imagine a more idyllic getaway.

Days here are endlessly dreamy. Wake up to the sight of the Sivota Bay in the distance, then pad out onto the balcony to savour an espresso in the morning air. Afternoons are best spent lounging on the daybed (an excellent spot for a catnap in the sun), splashing in the glimmering pool and swinging in the hammock underneath the shady trees. Follow the path down to the sea when you fancy a dip in the ocean, or stroll through the lush gardens, picking fresh vegetables, ripened fruit and aromatic herbs to use for the night's dinner. And speaking of meals, there's no better place to tuck into a feast than the outdoor table, sharing a bottle of wine as the evening slowly fades.

It's only a five-minute drive into town, where local tavernas and coffee shops sit along the bay. Many beautiful sandy beaches are also within easy reach, including Afteli (a fifteen-minute drive), Ammoussa (reachable in twenty minutes) and Paralia Mikros Gialos (twenty-two minutes by car), so there’ll never be a dull day in paradise.

Whether you’re lounging in the living room or by the infinity pool, this villa’s views of the Ionian Sea are pretty spectacular. Outside, you can relax on sunbeds, chill in the built-in seating area, or cook and dine at the terrace, all while soaking in the scenery. Inside, the open-plan living space is compact but practical, with a sofa bed that can accommodate an extra guest for an extra fee. Local restaurants are a short walk away, but we'd recommend hiring a car to explore the nearby village of Athani, as well as the renowned beaches of Porto Katsiki, Egremni, and Gialos.

Built into a Lefkada hillside – in a rather harmonious fashion we might add – this sensational villa is blessed with the sort of incredible views at which you'll never tire of gawping. From the address, there's an uninterrupted panorama of the Ionian Sea, Nydri Gulf and the neighbouring island of Skorpios.

As you would hope, there are plenty of spots from which you can admire this wonderful landscape. If the weather's on the warmer side, you can take in the surroundings from the pair of swimming pools or out on one of the myriad terraces and balconies. When the sun's gone down, you can choose instead to sink back into the Jacuzzi or retire next to the fire pit for a little bit of added cosiness.

Although you'll want to spend as much time out in the open air as possible here, you won't be disappointed when you finally have to head inside. There are two wings to the property, plus a self-contained studio apartment, which means that there's an abundance of private space, even for larger groups. The design throughout is gloriously contemporary, with sleek surfaces, a minimalist approach to adornment and oodles of natural light from the large windows. If you ever have a hankering for the more rustic side of Greek accommodation, the pair of wood-burning fireplaces might just scratch that itch.

In the local village, there are a couple of restaurants to keep you satiated, but there's a much wider choice in the tourist town of Nydri, about twenty minutes' drive away. In the same direction, Dessimi Beach takes just over a quarter of an hour to reach in the car.

We love the home’s pretty red shutters that mirror the deep scarlet of the garden’s climbing roses – an outdoor haven where a glistening pool awaits. Spend your afternoons taking dips in its waters while enjoying views across the bay before catching some rays on the perfectly placed loungers or on the day bed while indulging in a good book and a cold drink. 
 
The outdoor table beckons starlit barbecue feasts and gloriously sunny breakfasts, while inside your home, you’ll find plenty of board games and entertainment should the sun get too hot. Factor in the comfortable bedrooms with their dreamy sea vistas, as well as their beautiful en-suite stone-carved showers and you’ve got everything you need for true holiday bliss. 
 
Outside of your home, Afteli Beach is a fifteen-minute drive away, Sivota is seven minutes away by car and bustling Lefkada is a forty-minute drive from your door.

Although the vistas from the villa never tire, you'll most definitely want to see a closer view of Sivota Bay and the village, which can be found just a ten-minute walk away. Dot in and out of the charming boutiques and be sure to try some freshly caught fish and seafood at one of the local tavernas.

Located in the harbour village of Sivota and surrounded by olive groves, this four-bedroom home boasts a private, outdoor swimming pool and a terrace with a pergola from which to admire stunning sea views. Although family-friendly, it’s worth noting that this home’s ladder-effect balconies and low stone walls mean young children should be kept an eye on.

Secluded, this tiny villa hides within an olive grove just uphill from the harbour of Sivota. Sleeping two, the house is small but intimate and personal, perfect for a couple's getaway or a solo trip. Standing over the glittering Ionian Sea, this impressive villa offers plenty of outdoor space. The garden has an array of patios and relaxing spots from which to admire views of the Lefkada countryside, our favourite being the emerald infinity pool. All three bedrooms have their own balcony too, where you can enjoy some time to yourself. It was the jetty just below the villa that caught our eye, however, which offers a sunbathing area right next to the ocean. It’s only shared with two other villas, so you don’t have to worry about overcrowding. The traditional harbour of Sivota is just a 45-minute walk away, where you can enjoy a meal on the waterfront.

Surrounded by Lefkada's olive trees, lush forests and rocky terrain, this villa has a perfect position high up in the hills. From this vantage point, views of the Ionian are a given – and if you're anything like us, you'll be keen to spend all day and all night making the most of the scenery. How could you not, with Vlycho Bay and the islands of Scorpios, Meganisi and Atokos glistening on the horizon?

Enjoy relaxing afternoons poolside, flitting between dips in the pool, cocktails on the lounge chairs, and naps in the hammock. Come suppertime, fire up the built-in barbecue and dine alfresco on classic Grecian fare, the setting sun and sparkling sea creating the perfect backdrop.

Five minutes away by car is the charming port town of Nydri, one of the busiest on the island's east coast. Here, you can hop on a boat tour, walk to the Nydri Waterfalls or sample the local cuisine at the beachfront bars and restaurants. Nydri Beach is 4 kilometres away, but for even more postcard-worthy beaches, head west to Pefkoulia or Egremni Beach – both reachable in an hour's drive.

There’s even a separate children’s pool making it great for family holidays. Outside of the home, hike the nearby trails and take advantage of the mountainous location. Nidri village is a five-minute drive, while the Dimosari Waterfalls (1.8 kilometres) and Nidri Beach (1.3 kilometres) are beauty spots not to be missed.
