Perched right in front of the sea and offering views of Messinian Bay, this apartment delivers on location. Exploring Kalamata on foot is easy, with local taverns, restaurants, and bars within easy reach. The beach and port are also just across the street. Back home, you can rest your feet in the modern living space. Although the lofted main bedroom is comfortable and contemporary, it isn't the most private since it overlooks the lounge. Guests five and six will also be sleeping on a sofa bed, so we think it's best for shorter trips. Overall, the home lacks some creature comforts – including a washing machine and proper air conditioning – but it's a convenient place to unwind between adventures.

The narrow shape of the space means that there aren't all too many windows and natural light, but there's a good amount of spotlights to combat any potential dullness.

When it comes to getting to know Kalamata, the central location means you're close to everything from restaurants and the harbour to the open-air railway museum set within a large park. The historic centre is just over a kilometre to the north, while the long and sandy Kalamatis beach sits a similar distance away in the opposite direction.

Much of this is down to the selection of furnishings and finishes to be found throughout, from the Venetian armchairs and the ornate chandelier to the selection of famous artistic prints dotted about the space.

However, it's not just an address that looks good on the surface – it's somewhere in which you'll find it wonderfully easy to turn off and relax. When the weather's warm, the verandah is the place to sit and gaze up at the Peloponesse skyline, but if the temperature takes a dip, you can retire next to the wood-burning fireplace or treat yourself to a long soak in the bathtub.

And of course, there will be some afternoons when the only place for it is the beach and Kalamata's main stretch of sand is only 800 metres away. Spend leisurely days on Stoupa Beach, a popular snorkelling spot, and Kalogria Beach, loved by families for its idyllic shallow waters. Plus, the quaint fishing village of Agios Nikolaos, with its terracotta tiled roofs and traditional waterfront tavernas, is a twelve-minute drive away.

With the glistening waters of the Argolic Gulf and the looming landmass of Argolis on the horizon, plus olive groves and evergreen forest to either side, you couldn't ask for a better view than the one this villa enjoys.

As you would hope, there are plenty of ways to admire this panorama, whether it's while paddling in the swimming pool, dining on the terrace or catching some rays on one of the loungers.

Inside, there's a rustic feel to the design thanks to the stone walls and floor, as well as the terracotta tiling. When the sun goes down, what better way to end the day than lighting up one of the fireplaces and curling up on a leather sofa?

Although the villa certainly feels like it's in a secluded location, it's only eight minutes' drive to the seaside village of Porto Cheli, which offers a beach and a handful of restaurants. It's also easy to catch a ferry over to the nearby islands of Spetses and Hydra.
