What better base in the ancient-ruin-filled peninsula of the Peloponnese than a neo-classic villa that radiates Grecian charm. This place was originally built in 1893 and is set in over 35,000 square metres of manicured grounds like a lavish country escape fit for nobility. The Mediterranean gardens are filled with blooming flowers, fragrant jasmine and wisteria, and you can help yourself to the vegetables, strawberries, peaches and apricots ripening in the sun. Outdoor lounges come swathed with white curtains, loungers are shaded by ancient olive trees and there’s a tennis court/basketball court and swimming pool for those that like to keep active. Underground changing rooms provide a bit of privacy. Perhaps head up to the rooftop terrace – a real sun-trap during the day. 

There’s a sense of luxurious nostalgia inside. Intricately carved armchairs reminiscent of medieval thrones sit in front of a brick fireplace in the main living room and oil paintings adorn the walls. Should you need to work remotely, there’s a dedicated office room with stacks and stacks of books to choose from too. Bedrooms continue the theme of grandeur with gilded mirrors and wrought-iron bed-frames. 

In terms of location, the Peloponnese has that distinct Greek Island feel, and the soft-sanded beach of Agia. Marina, lined with restaurants and bars, is just a five-minute walk away. 

Lady Ariadne

Perched on top of a Peloponnese hillside surrounded by olive trees, this humble villa is one of four homes built from local stone that will sing to anyone after a quiet sojourn away from the crowds.

The whitewashed interior is instantly calming upon entrance and follows a minimalist approach to design. What few driftwood decorations and framed pictures there are do add a rustic charm. We should mention that the kitchen is certainly on the smaller side, but there's everything there needed to cook the group a hearty dinner. 

Although there's a table inside, there's another out on the terrace outside from which the locale's tranquillity can be truly appreciated. The invitingly blue outdoor swimming pool shared between all of the onsite villas is an equally pleasant spot to do this from, too.

When you fancy reentering civilisation, Mavrovouni Beach takes all of five minutes to reach in the car and the coastal town of Methoni is a twelve-minute drive when you're after restaurants and markets.



Enjoy The Silence

The southern Peloponnese is known for its beautiful golden beaches, charming old-world villages and archaeological sites steeped in history. And from this spot in Valira, you'll be well-placed to make the most of it. Hop in the car to explore this picturesque region and you'll find something new at every turn. Head to Bouka Beach for a dip in the sea (just 18km away), nibble on the namesake olives in Kalamata's local eateries or step back in time at the ruins in Ancient Messene. 

Whatever you get up to, you'll love returning to this cosy home after a long day. Open a bottle of Greecian wine and enjoy it alfresco on the patio, breathing in the fresh air. Better yet, take a seat on the balcony and watch the sun dip below Valira's horizon as you dig into a feast prepared on the barbecue. The two outside spaces are hard to resist, but the open-plan layout inside is just as relaxing. Everyone can kick back, put their feet up and chill out together until bedtime, when the comfortable bedrooms are sure to be calling your name.

Nestled in the gardens of an exclusive estate, this luxury villa boasts views of Tsilivi bay and a path straight to the beach. The ground-floor bedroom gives accessibility to guests with limited mobility, and floor-to-ceiling windows lead to the heated pool. You'll have a range of services at your fingertips, from private chefs to spa and beauty treatments at the estate's shared spa facility, to ensure your stay is a memorable one. The estate offers parking, and we recommend having a car for trips down to Zakynthos with its beach and port.

The Stone Throne

Only 250 metres away from the sandy beach of Stoupa, this hidden gem invites guests to enjoy a taste of traditional Greece alongside all of the modern home comforts required to kick back and relax with ease. First thing's first, we love the unique multi-levelled terrace and garden spaces here. Surrounded by an abundance of Mediterranean flowers, the natural environment of the villa offers a serene ambience to soak up utter seclusion. From the covered alfresco dining area to the patio lounge seating area, hammock, outside kitchen and lawned sunbathing terrace – each corner of the garden reveals a different atmospheric perching spot. 

Meanwhile, the home's interior features exposed stone and wooden beams alongside tiled flooring and white furniture – offering guests an authentic slice of the Mediterranean lifestyle from the moment you put down your bags. And with your location in the heart of Mani Peninsula, you'll get a real flavour of Greece here, with an abundance of natural beauty and many seaside restaurants and beach bars to sample. This part of Greece is recognised for its picturesque villages and breathtakingly beautiful beaches – but with Stoupa as your base, there'll be little need to venture beyond the town if you truly are looking to stay in one place. With the sea located two minutes from the villa in one direction and the local supermarket just two minutes away in the other direction – what more could you need?

Enjoy unobstructed views of the majestic Peloponnese mountains while soaking up the sun on the terrace and sipping cocktails after a dip in the pool. This boho-style villa features contemporary designs and is equipped with all the mod cons you could need. With lush gardens and an alfresco dining area, you’ll enjoy endless moments of relaxation and make unforgettable summer memories.

Olive & Stone

This beautiful stone villa boasts a glorious location in the Peloponnese. The sea views from the terrace are mesmerising, and can be enjoyed as you swim in the private pool. Zagka Beach and Agia Triada are both just a six-minute drive away – with so much to see nearby, we recommend hiring a car. The villa is comfortable and attractive, though one guest will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, which won’t suit everyone. 

Orion's Stars

Situated within striking distance of the city’s major landmarks, this homely apartment is perfectly placed for exploring all that Kalamata has to offer. Whether you’re here for the ancient architecture, the winding old town, or the dreamy harbour, this place has got you covered, perched just 800m from the city’s central square. Soak up gorgeous views from Kalamata’s Castle, settle in for an afternoon of sunbathing at the beach, or sample authentic Greek cuisine at a local restaurant. Bon appétit!

Later, when you’ve had your fill of being out and about, you’ll come home to a cosy apartment in one of Kalamata’s quietest neighbourhoods, perfect for unwinding after a busy day of sightseeing. With two terraces at your disposal, we wouldn’t blame you if you wanted to spend the rest of the evening in the open air, sipping a cool glass of wine as you watch the sun go down over the city’s rooftops. Then, when it’s time to turn in for the night, snuggle up in your comfy double bed and let your memories of the day lull you to sleep.

Drifting Reeds

You’ll find this elegant home in the sun soaked Peloponnese, a short drive from the lively seaside city of Kalamata. Inside, rooms are decorated in creamy tones and filled with antique furnishings – we particularly loved the merlot red sofa in the living space. After waking up with a coffee at the breakfast bar, step into the sunshine on the balcony and breathe in the fresh air. Gaze across the glittering seascape as you lap up Greek yoghurt at the alfresco dining table before sliding on your sandals and exploring your surroundings. 

Take the short drive over to Almiros Beach for a dip in the warm Mediterranean then nip over to Kalamata for its picturesque old town, selection of museums and long stretch of golden sand. Come evening, pick out a local restaurant for traditional dishes or return home for a slap-up barbecue and a couple of glasses of wine at sundown.

Seaside Flow

It’s difficult to describe this home without seeming overly enthusiastic – it’s a one-in-a-million property. The glass exterior means that the building doesn’t overwhelm the natural surroundings – it seems as though this home has simply sprung up from the rocky hillside on which it sits. 

Inside, smooth concrete floors meet the floor-to-ceiling windows to give a light, earthy vibe. Natural wood tones add warmth, as does the mellow sunlight that streams through. Blackout curtains in the bedroom mean you’ll sleep like a baby, but when you’re ready to start the day you can step straight from bed to the sunny outside space. 

This home’s vantage point, and clever design, mean that you benefit from incredible views from almost every angle. Diving into the infinity pool gives you a glorious vista of the beautiful Peleponnese peninsula, while dining in the indoor-outdoor space showcases the lush countryside surroundings. 

Situated in the village of Pyla, you’re only five kilometres from the town of Pylos, where you can dine out or shop, and you can be in historic Messenia in under an hour. It’s hard to imagine tearing yourself away from the hammock here though… This is the kind of holiday home you never forget. 

Glass & Stone

Sitting on the southern coastline of the Peloponesse, the seafront city of Kalamata brings together wonderful beaches, mouth-watering cuisine and historic architecture that wears the region's history on its sleeve. This simple but stylish maisonette puts you in an excellent position to see the best attractions.

There's a contemporary sheen to the interior design, with Scandi-inspired furnishings and smart wooden floors rubbing shoulders with bursts of bright colours and artwork on the walls. The narrow shape of the space means that there aren't all too many windows and natural light, but there's a good amount of spotlights to combat any potential dullness.

When it comes to getting to know Kalamata, the central location means you're close to everything from restaurants and the harbour to the open-air railway museum set within a large park. The historic centre is just over a kilometre to the north, while the long and sandy Kalamatis beach sits a similar distance away in the opposite direction.
