The whitewashed interior is instantly calming upon entrance and follows a minimalist approach to design. What few driftwood decorations and framed pictures there are do add a rustic charm. We should mention that the kitchen is certainly on the smaller side, but there's everything there needed to cook the group a hearty dinner. 

Although there's a table inside, there's another out on the terrace outside from which the locale's tranquillity can be truly appreciated. The invitingly blue outdoor swimming pool shared between all of the onsite villas is an equally pleasant spot to do this from, too.

When you fancy reentering civilisation, Mavrovouni Beach takes all of five minutes to reach in the car and the coastal town of Methoni is a twelve-minute drive when you're after restaurants and markets.

The villa is comfortable and attractive, though one guest will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, which won’t suit everyone.

In the small Messinian town of Koroni, where the sea is rarely out of sight, this impressive home combines seclusion with sophistication, offering more than enough room for the whole family. 

Comprising four identical stone villas, there's plenty of privacy and cosy corners from which to enjoy some quiet time to yourself. We highly recommend making a cup of coffee and heading upstairs to read a book in the hammock, which has been placed directly in front of a window offering views over the mountains.

When it comes to family time, the patio is the place to be. Come together for a few glasses of wine around the outdoor table, or have some fun with the kids in the pool. 

Stone exterior and contemporary decor mean this home offers plenty of rustic charm without sacrificing any creature comforts. Easy access to the local sandy beaches (all within a mile away), as well as the cosmopolitan village of Koroni close by, means you really do have the best of southern Greece on your doorstep.

It's a view to be admired any time of day from that stylish poolside, but it's at its best from the top-floor terrace over sunset drinks. A beach-lovers paradise, take your pick from the sweeping sandy stretches of Voidhokilia (3.5 kilometres), Golden Beach (2 kilometres), and even closer, the charming shoreline of Gialova village (900 metres), dotted with seafront tavernas for an easy bite to eat.

One of the bedrooms features direct access to the terrace, a peaceful place, perfect for alfresco meals or sipping your morning coffee among the surrounding nature. Gialova is just under 2 kilometres away where you'll find a selection of tavernas, shops and cafes. Meanwhile, the nearest beach is Golden Beach, only a five-minute drive away from the villa.

Perched right in front of the sea and offering views of Messinian Bay, this apartment delivers on location. Exploring Kalamata on foot is easy, with local taverns, restaurants, and bars within easy reach. The beach and port are also just across the street. Back home, you can rest your feet in the modern living space. Although the lofted main bedroom is comfortable and contemporary, it isn't the most private since it overlooks the lounge. Guests five and six will also be sleeping on a sofa bed, so we think it's best for shorter trips. Overall, the home lacks some creature comforts – including a washing machine and proper air conditioning – but it's a convenient place to unwind between adventures.

Surrounded by lush vegetation — including trees growing olives, almonds, pears and lemons — it also has the added perk of having direct access to a secluded beach.

Part of a collection of five villas, this home makes the most of its beautiful position with a long terrace area containing an alfresco dining table, a couple of loungers and even a giant chess set. The interior has plenty of glass doors and large windows so you can still marvel at the scenery from inside, too. We're big fans of the decor, which is contemporary in style but subtle and unshowy about it.
