When you're not lounging poolside with the Grecian heat on your skin, hang out indoors and hit the air-con switch. Your hosts have opted for clean, contemporary decor that lets the outside in through floor-to-ceiling windows. Both of the sitting rooms and two double bedrooms look directly onto the expanse of sea, cradled by low hills on either side.

Behind the villa, you'll notice the impressive Mount Taygetos. The foot of this popular hiking route can be reached in a couple of hours – but it's not for the faint of heart, particularly in the height of summer. If you opt for an afternoon on the beach instead, no one will blame you. Your nearest include Foneas and Delfinia beaches.

The Ocean's Echo

Those who appreciate symmetry would do well to pay a visit to this idyllic address on the southern coastline of the Peloponnese peninsula.

Two handsome villas made from local Mani stone and Byzantine tiles stand side by side at the centre of the plot, separated by a picturesque foliage-covered pergola leading to the garden. Out here, you'll find a long swimming pool, as well as plenty of loungers with views of the Greek countryside. Add to this a stone barbecue and a children's play area, and it's not hard to see where summer afternoons will be passed.

The homes' interiors feel in keeping with the traditional exteriors. Look about and you'll spot antique furnishings from around the world, including an Alpine bookcase, vintage English washstand and Persian carpets. That being said, the rest of the design is fairly modern, with neutral tones and plush furnishings.

Perhaps best of all, however, is the location, which puts you just a few steps away from Ritsa Beach. There are restaurants and the start of hiking routes in the town of Kardamyli about ten minutes away on foot, too.

It’s worth bearing in mind that the terrace and swimming pool are shared with the building’s other residents. These are situated just outside the living room where two guests will sleep at capacity, so if you prefer a bit more privacy this may not quite tick all your holiday boxes. Location-wise though, if the glittering blue vistas tempt you to the sea, you’ll find the beaches of Stoupa and Pantazis in Agios Nikolaos just five minutes away by car.

Back home, you can rest your feet in the modern living space. Although the lofted main bedroom is comfortable and contemporary, it isn't the most private since it overlooks the lounge. Guests five and six will also be sleeping on a sofa bed, so we think it's best for shorter trips. Overall, the home lacks some creature comforts – including a washing machine and proper air conditioning – but it's a convenient place to unwind between adventures.
