Deep in the Cretan countryside, surrounded by rugged mountains, fragrant flowers and Mediterranean shrubbery, this rustic home makes the most of its rural setting. You don't often get views like this, so take a moment to appreciate the panoramas from the many terraces. Mornings call for coffee and fresh fruit – maybe even a mimosa if you're feeling fancy – before heading down to the plunge pool for a dip in the sunshine. Later on, as the day slowly comes to an end, get together for a barbecue and watch the stars pop out over the mountaintops.

Even inside, the scenery is front and centre, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows. With its vaulted timber ceilings and exposed stone walls, the living area feels like a great hall in the days of old – and the open-plan layout means you can chill out on the sofa, convene around the table and cook up a storm without missing a beat in the conversation. A separate office has worker bees covered, while the cosy and charming bedrooms are a restful retreat after a long afternoon. Our favourite bit? The telescope, which makes both birdwatching and stargazing a dream.

When you're ready to venture out and about, Rethymno is about 15 kilometres away – the Venetian harbour, 19th-century lighthouse, and traditional tavernas make it an ideal day trip. You're also a fifteen-minute drive from a sandy beach. 

Ourea Ascending

Tiered and terraced like a glorious celebration cake, this villa stands in the heart of Crete’s wild interior. The view is greenery and misty mountains as far as the eye can see. The villa towers above an azure swimming pool, surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens. There are plenty of loungers to laze away the day, seating beneath a pergola and a circular sunken hot tub for a sunset soak. The highlight of the outdoors has to be the taverna-style dining area beneath the wooden ceiling which has a built-in outdoor kitchen and is, quite simply, huge. 

Accommodation inside is spread across five apartments, each with its own fully-equipped kitchen and wrap-around terrace. Views from the top of the home stretch beyond the mountains and all the way to the sea. In terms of location, you’re a twenty-minute drive from the Venetian ruins and pristine sandy beaches of Rethymno, but there are hiking trails to explore on your doorstep if you fancy. 

Standing Proud

This stunning stone home built into the rust red slope of a hill in the Cretan seaside village of Agio Pavlos is the stuff dreams are made of. A unique architectural marvel, this beautiful, bioclimatic home exists in harmony with the natural landscape and boasts uninterrupted sea views as well as a private patio, alfresco dining and lounging area and plunge pool. Perfect for eco-conscious couples, this mythic home features a lovely light filled, open plan kitchen cum dining and living room courtesy of floor to ceiling sliding glass doors which open out onto the patio. The interior savvy among you will appreciate the intelligent use of natural materials – think beautifully blue patterned tiles against whitewashed walls, wooden worktops, sideboards and stools, wicker lampshades and smooth stone floors – and prevalence of shades of blue which combine to create a soothing and serene aesthetic.  

You’ll love gazing out to sea from the privacy of your patio, lazing on loungers in the sun and cooling off with a dip in your private pool before rinsing off under the outdoor shower in time for a Greek salad or oúzo o’ clock. A mere 250 metres from the beach, a beachfront café-bar and a local tavern, you’ll be able to paddle or peddle boat in gorgeous green waters as well as indulge in copious amounts of Cretan cuisine within minutes – what’s not to love?


Earth, Sea & Air

Capitalising on the beauty of the natural Crete landscape, this modern villa is built with views of the Aegean Sea and surrounding mountains. Though that'll draw you outside, you'll stay for the infinity pool and alfresco dining table. There are also bean bags and sun loungers to ensure you're making the most of the sunshine. Inside, modern features ensure that all of the family are comfortable. As for your location, you're near Plaka, where you can dine and shop. What about the beach, you ask? The closest one is only 700 meters away.

The Sea Bride

For a family holiday in Crete with everything to hand, this is a great option. This villa is part of a complex of two villas in Akoumia, looking out over the Libyan Sea and boasting panoramic views. As you sip lemonade by the pool, your gaze will drift to the mountains in the distance. This is a peaceful home far from the touristy crowds, ideal for family breaks and making memories. 

Perhaps you’ll start the day with a family breakfast on the balcony. It’s the best place in the villa to take in the view. The little ones will likely want to jump straight in the pool before spending the rest of their day playing on the swings and slide. You might settle in a hammock to doze in the sunshine or read a book under an umbrella by the pool. 

The beautiful Triopetra beach is just five minutes away by car, with clear water to swim in. The town has a few tavernas, so you can go from the beach to lunch, soaking up the atmosphere of the small town. 

In the evenings, you might drive to a nearby town for dinner, or perhaps you’ll shop locally for fresh seafood and grill it on the barbecue. Sip wine as the sun sets, and enjoy the romance once the kids are in bed. 


It's Playtime

On the picture-perfect south coast of Crete, in the quaint village of Mariou, this serene villa beckons. With views over the seaside landscape, this home showcases all of the natural beauty this Greek island has to offer.

Start the day by brewing a fresh cup of coffee before opening up the patio doors and stepping out onto the private terrace. Take a seat on the outdoor sofa and enjoy the breathtaking views over the Crete coastline. For a leisurely day at home, take a dip in the swimming pool then retire to a sun lounger to read a book or simply watch the world go by.

When you do fancy leaving the terrace, there’s plenty of natural beauty to discover, with the striking Preveli beach just 3 miles away. If beach hopping is your thing, we’d recommend renting a car and driving 3km to Plakias, which is home to some of the best beaches in Crete - the scenic drive past mountains and the Libyan sea makes the trip even more worth your while. 

Beach Hop Hideaway

This villa oozes Cretan charm with its natural stone facade and minimalist modern interior. Located a short walk from the crystal clear waters and white powdered of Damnoni Beach, you’ll be able to make the most of your coastal location. 

There’s perfect harmony between the outside and inside here – the sliding doors allow the natural light to flood the open-plan living space while the upstairs balcony allows you to soak up the Cretan sun as soon as your open your eyes. Mornings call for coffee out here before the rest of the house wakes up – practice your morning meditations here or just sit and admire the views across the Mediterranean. Next, head to the sleek kitchen to share a leisurely breakfast with your loved ones around the table, then head to the terrace. 

Outside, the sun will invite you to lounge out on sunbeds for a soft bronzing session, whilst the pristine pool will beckon you in for a cooling dip. When the sun is at its peak, retreat under the shade to turn pages of your holiday read before sharing a crisp glass of Peza wine in the outdoor lounge.

Set aside a day to explore the local sights – the Kourtaliotiko Gorge and Big Waterfall in Kouroupa are a short drive away and well worth visiting.

Cretan Charm

Awash with rustic yet contemporary charm, this delightful villa welcomes you in and wraps you up in its serene setting. Jump straight into holiday mode with a refreshing dip in the private pool, just the ticket to cool off in the heat of the Crete sun. After swimming a few lengths, you can climb out onto a poolside lounger and relax with your loved ones around you. Times like these allow you to enjoy the simple things in life, such as enjoying quiet conversation with those closest to you, or taking your time to get lost in a story as you sink into the pages of a good book. 

With the Aegean Sea sparkling in the distance, enjoy some refreshments on the terrace before getting dressed up to head into Rethymno to sample some local cuisine. Make sure you’re home in time for golden hour though – the sunsets here are stunning. As the sun sinks into the sea, pop open a bottle of bubbly and savour the moment – these are precious memories you’ll hold onto long after you’ve returned home. 

Mellow Moment

This might not be the most luxurious home on Crete or have the most beautiful views, but at the end of the day, a Greek villa is still a Greek villa – even fairly ordinary ones can still make for an unforgettable getaway. The swimming pool and ample terrace space mean you can spend countless hours in the Mediterranean sunshine, while you're all of 8km from the beach town of Plakias. There's even a fireplace and underfloor heating should you be jetting over during the winter months.

Welcome to My Island

Spend an afternoon relaxing on the beautiful golden sands of Rethymno Beach or explore the city of Rethymno, both under a twenty-minute drive from this newly-built villa. If all you want to do is soak up the sizzling Crete sun at your home, then simply unwind on a sun lounger by the sparkling pool or find some shade on the veranda. Packed with family-friendly facilities – there's a ping pong table here, as well as a kids' playground, complete with slide. 

Pick some vegetables from the veggie plot and grill on the barbecue for a long lazy lunch while admiring the surrounding Cretan countryside – we love this bucolic setting. This home's ambience exudes calm with its subtle tones, ideal for a relaxing break.



Grecian Urns

This traditional stone home provides guests with charm and comfort combined. As you wander through, you'll find the gorgeous stone walls and rustic decor, amplifying the cosy vibes during your stay in Greece. Whip up a tasty light bite in the kitchen, followed by tucking in at the lovely little indoor dining nook by the chandelier. 

Step onto the terrace to socialise over a bottle of red as you admire the gorgeous coastal view, before taking a dip in the soothing hot tub – we recommend this spot for evenings spent watching the magnificent sunset. After a day of exploration, enjoy some peace and quiet as you unwind in the unique deep bath, where you can rest amongst the fragrant and tranquil bubbles.

Head out to explore the beautiful coast of Agios Vasileios. Spend the day at Agia Galini beach as you lay on the sand listening to the hum of the ocean waves. Afterward, visit the sparkling Agias Galinis Marina, where you can watch the yachts come and go as you look out upon the view.

Mermaid Retreat

With a hillside setting, this large modern villa has panoramic views of the picturesque countryside and sparkling sea. The private swimming pool is a wonderful spot, surrounded by olive groves, and there are plenty of seating and dining areas boasting more of those incredible vistas.
