Perched on the hillside, this villa gazes out across the Aegean Sea. The style is modern yet homely, with big windows and sliding doors that open the spaces up to the outside. But it's the gardens that really steal the show, with pristine lawns, an infinity pool, and fully-equipped outdoor kitchen with a terrace for alfresco dining or sunset cocktails, plus a playground for the little ones. As for the location, you're just 3 kilometres from the historic town of Rethymno, known for winding alleys, 16th-century Venetian citadel, and long sandy beach.

Elysian Outlook

This duo of villas offers a secluded oasis in the heart of Rethymno. The buildings are arranged around an enclosed courtyard with a plunge pool and plenty of space to stretch out in the sun or dine alfresco. Both villas have a serene, homely feel, with two bedrooms each as well as their own living space and kitchen – ideal if you're travelling with extended family or friends. And the location? Hard to beat – local tavernas and shops are just a short stroll away, while the nearest beach is 2.5 kilometres down the road.

Rethymno Retreat

Perched on a Cretan hillside with panoramic views reaching across the White Mountains and out to sea, this villa is built around the kind of outdoor life that's hard to leave behind. The infinity pool edges into those views, with a shallow section for younger children to paddle while everyone else soaks up the landscape. Come evening, a fire pit terrace pulls the group together as the valley lights begin to appear below. A single-storey layout and a fenced garden with a children's play area make it an easy choice for families, and the outdoor kitchen means long alfresco dinners are very much part of the plan.

Crete & Coastline

This is a stunning villa, perfectly positioned for a relaxing stay on Crete. Boasting breathtaking sea views from almost every angle, it’s sure to impress even the most discerning travellers. We love the outside space, featuring an infinity pool with submerged sunloungers, an outdoor lounge complete with a fire pit, and a shaded dining area. Inside, the villa is stylish and charming, with exposed stone detail and vast floor-to-ceiling windows. Kamari Beach is a short drive away, as is the centre of Gerani village.

Infinite Views

This beautifully restored home is a notch above its pretty surroundings. In a beautiful stone building that dates back to 1880, it’s been restored to maintain its stunning traditional features, yet modernised to embrace the unique use of space. The open-plan dining and living space is ideal for a sociable evening enjoying a few drinks and dinner with friends. The velour corner sofa with a view extending across to the coastline is just an additional luxurious touch. Open your doors and you’re met with a second seating area, should you prefer to dine alfresco. Our favourite spot, however, is the private infinity pool where the crystal blue sea can be seen in the distance.

Situated in the centre of Maroulas village, you’re surrounded by rich history and high above Rethymno – springs, several valleys and picturesque greenery are the natural beauty spots which beautifully complement the local taverns, cafes and mini-markets. After a day of exploring, retire for a relaxed evening at home. The bedrooms are classically calm, dressed in serene white and natural textures. In the morning, pour yourself a coffee and grab a bite to eat and head to your private balcony, where you can watch the sunrise over the horizon – another reminder you’re in holiday heaven.

The Pretty Peacock

Enjoy a true taste of luxury with a stay at this bright and elegant apartment situated in the heart of the lovely coastal town of Rethimno. You’ll be able to take advantage of all the comforts on offer here, as well as benefiting from the home’s prime location within walking distance of the old town and the idyllic beaches.

Come up the stairs and enter to be greeted by a light-filled and stylish open-plan lounge area, with plenty of comfy spaces for kicking back and relaxing. The well-equipped modern kitchen invites you to rustle up delicious meals – why not get inspired by Crete’s fresh ingredients and the proximity of the sea and create a true feast for your loved ones. You’ll be able to savour it indoors at the dining table or outside on your private patio, where comfy seats await.

After a hot day in the sun, you’ll love cooling off in the private spa pool – while not big enough for swimming, we think it’s a wonderful spot to share a chilled bottle of Greek wine.

Later, head over to the plush bedrooms for a night of restful sleep. Factor in the two sleek bathrooms, including one with a luxurious bathtub, and you’ve got everything to make your stay here a memorable one.

Outside your home, you’ll find yourself moments away from Rethimno’s many attractions, as well as countless shops, markets and restaurants.

Moonlight Serenade

Just four kilomotres from the enchanting city of Rethymno, this beautiful villa is perfectly placed for exploring Crete. Split over three floors, the layout allows everyone in the group to enjoy some privacy, with several bedrooms boasting balconies. This home is super convenient due to its extensive facilities, from the home gym and office to the spacious garden complete with a swimming pool. Location-wise, you’ll likely need a car to get the most out of your stay – Rethymno’s Venetian harbour and charming old town are at the top of your bucket list. If you’re keen to tick off multiple cities in one trip, you couldn’t be better positioned – Chania and Heraklion are within an easy distance.

Where the Summer Wine Reigns

With this luxury villa's typically Greek whitewashed exterior, you'd be forgiven for expecting a traditional take on modern, but the open-plan living room in this home has a distinct mid-century meets warehouse style. Outside is where the real magic happens though – we love the Cretan countryside and sea views that greet you as you step onto the terrace, beyond the azure pool. If the sizzling sun gets too hot, recline on a sun lounger under the sail shades. For lunch, enjoy a feast in the garden with goodies from the local bakery in Gerani Village, a ten-minute walk away. It's the same distance to beautiful Gerani Beach if you fancy feeling its warm, golden sand between your toes – utter bliss.

Marjoram & Sage

Awash with rustic yet contemporary charm, this delightful villa welcomes you in and wraps you up in its serene setting. Jump straight into holiday mode with a refreshing dip in the private pool, just the ticket to cool off in the heat of the Crete sun. After swimming a few lengths, you can climb out onto a poolside lounger and relax with your loved ones around you. Times like these allow you to enjoy the simple things in life, such as enjoying quiet conversation with those closest to you, or taking your time to get lost in a story as you sink into the pages of a good book.

With the Aegean Sea sparkling in the distance, enjoy some refreshments on the terrace before getting dressed up to head into Rethymno to sample some local cuisine. Make sure you’re home in time for golden hour though – the sunsets here are stunning. As the sun sinks into the sea, pop open a bottle of bubbly and savour the moment – these are precious memories you’ll hold onto long after you’ve returned home.

Mellow Moment

A stone's throw from the sandy shores of Platanes Beach, which stretches for miles along the shores of Rethymno, this spectacular three-bedroom villa has been designed from the ground up to cater to your every need.

As part of a collection of six similar holiday retreats, this particular villa is perfect for those looking to stay as close to the beach as possible, occupying the first of three rows as you stroll away from the sea – ideal for a multigenerational family or those with young children who aren't able to walk far.

The interior is cool, calm and casual, perfectly in keeping with your enviable coastal surroundings. A multipurpose open living area provides more than enough room for six people to socialise. However, effortless access to the poolside terrace combined with Crete's fabulous climate creates a central space that feels much larger.

For ultimate flexibility, each of the three bedrooms can be configured as a twin or double. Your host can swap out the mattresses depending on your preference. All the rooms are decked out in soothing earth tones that create a calming ambience to help you unwind before bed. However, the main en-suite bedroom scoops top prize for its expansive private terrace with the best sea-view seats in the house.

When you're not reclining on a sun lounger by your private pool or swimming in the azure waters of the Aegean, why not visit the picturesque Venetian harbours of Rethymno or Chania along the coast? Or, you can discover the island's history in its atmospheric capital city, Heraklion.

I Need a Hero

This Greek villa is nestled in a tranquil area near the village of Agia Triada. Boasting sea views from the poolside and an alfresco dining area, it’ll be easy to adopt a laidback Mediterranean lifestyle here. Inside, the open-plan living area shares the water vistas. It’s worth noting that at full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping in a loft room which is semi-open to the bedroom below, so privacy will be limited. If this isn’t a dealbreaker, we think this home is a great choice for a relaxing getaway with friends or family.

Sea View Gem

This contemporary villa is a stunning base for exploring Crete's northern coastline – but the views might tempt you to stay at home. There are plenty of sunny spots to lie back on a lounger and take in the views of the historic town of Rethymno – and the minimal interior decor is a sign to spend most of your time outside. If you're here on a workcation, the snug workspace is handy – just make sure you're done in time to enjoy a barbecue with family or friends. There's a supermarket and taverna conveniently located within walking distance (plus a historic monastery), but Rethymno's cobbled streets and seafront restaurants are just a short drive away.
