For a modern escape to Greece, this villa is an excellent choice. It can be found just outside of Tinos town – a ten-minute walk is all it takes to reach the many bars, restaurants and shops of this lively hub. The well-loved beach at Agios Fokas is 500 metres away, so if you want to while away your stay on white sands, you can do so very easily indeed. 

You needn’t leave the villa for a dip though, as you’ll have your own private pool. Dive in first thing in the morning, and spend your days alternating between soaking up the gorgeous Greek sun and cooling off in the refreshing water. The villa looks out over the sea, with views stretching as far as Mykonos – this really is a lovely spot. When you need some shade, you can retire to the small patio or head inside. 

The villa is stylish and chic, with everything you might need for a beach break. The petite kitchen is ideal for whipping up a snack or mixing cocktails – if you’re anything like us, pre-dinner cocktails as you watch the sun set are a must for a holiday. As it’s the capital of the island, you'll find a myriad of restaurants, bars, shops and galleries to tickle your fancy. For a beach day, Paralia Lichnaftia is a ten-minute drive, although there are plenty more sandy shores to visit along the coast. You can even enjoy a day trip to Mykonos – it's about half an hour away on the ferry.

The interior is inspired by traditional Cyclades architecture, with thick white stone walls curving around each room. Exposed stone walls and a fireplace keep the living room with one foot in tradition, but the decor is decidedly boho-chic. Bedrooms sit beneath wooden ceilings with beds tucked into the curve of stone, and the master opens up to a terrace with a Jacuzzi tub and ocean view.

Mykonos may have a reputation as the most hedonistic island in the Cyclades, but it's just as easy to find villas where it's easy to completely switch off and relax – take this home close to the western coastline, for example.

It makes sense to start with the remarkable outdoor space given the generous climate that the locale enjoys. Spread out over four-and-a-half acres, it won't take great leaps of imagination to picture long afternoons spent paddling in the swimming pool, cooking up dinner on the barbecue or simply admiring the view of Aegean Sea and Mykonos Town from the comfort of a lounger.

The home itself is traditional in style, with a wealth of whitewashed walls, wooden beams and a feature wood-burning fireplace around which to gather when the evenings get cooler. However, it must be said that there are more contemporary aspects, including the minimalist kitchen and bedrooms.

You'll quickly find that the surrounding area of St John is pretty peaceful, but there are lively attractions not too far away. Ornos beach is the closest seaside spot at just under 2km away, while the restaurants and nightlife in Mykonos Town can be reached in a 5km drive.

We could easily spend all day on the terrace, drinking wine in the sun and watching the boats bob in the harbour as the tide rises and falls. Don't even get us started on the Aegean sea sunsets – they're downright magical, and you'll have a front-row seat. 

A former mayor's residence, this home was built in 1850 and has oodles of character inside – think beams on the high ceilings and shutters on the windows. Yet every room is bright, crisp and super sleek, thanks to the minimal decorations and white colour scheme. The design is pared-back on purpose so you can focus on the scenery, but don't let that fool you.
