Relax in the hammock and dine at the outdoor table, and when the heat becomes a little too much, there's a private infinity pool to cool off in. When in Greece, it's imperative to sample the local beaches – start off with Agios Sostis, just five minutes away by car, or twenty minutes on foot. This calm expanse is well off the tourist trail, so you won't have to compete for a sunny spot on the sand.

Tinos town is just a ten-minute drive away. Here, you'll have a choice of charming tavernas to choose from, each serving traditional cuisine with fresh local ingredients. Finish the meal with a slice of baklava, then head home to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun goes down.

Inside, the interiors honour traditional Cycladic design with a light-filled, minimal living space ideal for relaxing. It can be found just outside of Tinos town – a ten-minute walk is all it takes to reach the many bars, restaurants and shops of this lively hub. The well-loved beach at Agios Fokas is 500 metres away, so if you want to while away your stay on white sands, you can do so very easily indeed. 

You needn’t leave the villa for a dip though, as you’ll have your own private pool. Dive in first thing in the morning, and spend your days alternating between soaking up the gorgeous Greek sun and cooling off in the refreshing water. The villa looks out over the sea, with views stretching as far as Mykonos – this really is a lovely spot. When you need some shade, you can retire to the small patio or head inside.

The petite kitchen is ideal for whipping up a snack or mixing cocktails – if you’re anything like us, pre-dinner cocktails as you watch the sun set are a must for a holiday. If you can pull yourself away from the panoramas, Tinos Town (known as Chora to the locals) is just a thirteen-minute drive away. As it’s the capital of the island, you'll find a myriad of restaurants, bars, shops and galleries to tickle your fancy. For a beach day, Paralia Lichnaftia is a ten-minute drive, although there are plenty more sandy shores to visit along the coast. You can even enjoy a day trip to Mykonos – it's about half an hour away on the ferry.

It makes sense to start with the remarkable outdoor space given the generous climate that the locale enjoys. Spread out over four-and-a-half acres, it won't take great leaps of imagination to picture long afternoons spent paddling in the swimming pool, cooking up dinner on the barbecue or simply admiring the view of Aegean Sea and Mykonos Town from the comfort of a lounger.

The home itself is traditional in style, with a wealth of whitewashed walls, wooden beams and a feature wood-burning fireplace around which to gather when the evenings get cooler. However, it must be said that there are more contemporary aspects, including the minimalist kitchen and bedrooms.

You'll quickly find that the surrounding area of St John is pretty peaceful, but there are lively attractions not too far away. Ornos beach is the closest seaside spot at just under 2km away, while the restaurants and nightlife in Mykonos Town can be reached in a 5km drive.

We could easily spend all day on the terrace, drinking wine in the sun and watching the boats bob in the harbour as the tide rises and falls. Don't even get us started on the Aegean sea sunsets – they're downright magical, and you'll have a front-row seat. 

A former mayor's residence, this home was built in 1850 and has oodles of character inside – think beams on the high ceilings and shutters on the windows. Yet every room is bright, crisp and super sleek, thanks to the minimal decorations and white colour scheme.
