With a large outdoor area perfect for fun in the sun, this Zakynthos villa is a great base for a couple or a family. On the terrace, you've got the private plunge pool, barbecue, an alfresco dining area, and seating both in and out of the shade. But inside is a catch too – the bedroom has a hot tub, you can look out over the Ionian Sea from the living room, and the minimalist decor is a nice touch. If you're travelling with more than two, you'll be using the sofa beds in the living area. But with all that space, we don't think it will cause too much of a problem.

This home caught our eye with its impressive sea views and idyllic location. Nestled in private grounds – just 2.5 kilometres from the small port of Agios Nikolaos – this is the ideal spot for a refreshing coastal escape. There’s direct access to the sea, a private pool with hydro-massage and a perfectly positioned terrace. You will find lots of steps here so it may not be the best option for those with reduced mobility, but there’s plenty of space for groups and a range of extra services available during your stay – including local day trips and tours. 

Grecian Groove

This seafront villa, located in northern Zakynthos, is perfect for those looking to unwind while enjoying views of Kefalonia. It was the outside space that caught our attention – we loved the infinity pool with a hydro-massage spot, dining terrace, and of course, the direct access to the beach. Relaxation continues inside, thanks to the steam room. Plus, flexible sleeping arrangements make this place ideal for any group travelling together. If you’re keen to explore, shops and restaurants are around 2.5 kilometres away

A Soul's Rest

Get away from the every day with a stay at this stunning seaside home. Based on the island of Zante, close to the picturesque town of Agios Nikolaos, you'll be within easy reach of plenty of vibrant bars and gorgeous restaurants when you stay here, while still being in a secluded spot where you can feel truly at peace.

Positioned in the hills above the famous Blue Caves, this Zakynthos villa is equal parts traditional and contemporary. High, vaulted ceilings inside are trimmed with timber beams and exposed stone surround wooden windows. It's charming, yet the open layout is as modern as it gets. The whole place was designed with adaptability in mind, so you'll find wide doorways, step-free showers and roomy living areas offering plenty of space to spread out. 

Best of all is the terrace, where days are spent swimming in the pool, sipping cocktails in the sunshine and soaking up the panoramic views towards the vineyard, sea and beyond. We appreciate the attention to detail here – on arrival, you'll receive a welcome basket filled with wine from the estate's vineyard, fresh fruit and home-grown organic produce. You'll also have access to kayaks, snorkelling gear, fishing equipment, mountain bikes, a telescope, helipad and an outdoor gym, as well as the option to hire personal trainers, arrange private chefs and organise boat rentals for adventures on the water.

Speaking of exploring, this is one of the most picturesque areas on the island, so there'll be tons to get up to. Wander down the stone path to the ocean and explore the impressive Priest's Cave, travel by boat to the famous Navagio Beach (also known as the 'Shipwreck') or drive ten minutes to Agios Nikolas for cafes and laid-back tavernas.

Halcyon Seas

Perched on top of a cliff at the northern tip of Zakynthos, this villa has the sort of view that has the power to bring about a reverent silence as you try to take it all in — from here, you can see Kefalonia,  the Peloponesse shoreline and a vast expanse of sparkling Ionian Sea.

Thankfully, this home makes it pleasingly easy to admire this landscape. Slipping into the infinity pool with a built-in hydromassage area is one way of doing just that, but the surroundings are no less awe-inspiring from the home's terrace or alfresco dining area.

The home itself has been built in the traditional Zakythinian style, with stone walls, wooden ceiling beams and a fireplace in the living room. The galley kitchen has enough space to whip up a Mediterranean banquet, too.

One of the major perks that we should probably mention is that there's direct access to the sea via a stone path and you can borrow kayaks or snorkelling and fishing equipment, as well as binoculars, a telescope and gym equipment. The island's famous Blue Caves can be reached in ten minutes on foot, too.

Not only that, it’s a mere 100-metre stroll to the closest beach with direct access via a stone path, making it an ideal choice for those seeking a coastal stay. Inside, the home is simple and unfussy, allowing the outdoor space to take centre stage. Alfresco dining will become the norm during a stay here, and for days at home, the hydro-massage swimming pool is a real treat.

Perched proudly on the green slopes of North Zakynthos, this cliffside villa offers a peaceful location and breathtaking views to rival Mount Olympus itself. We love the charming, stone-clad exterior, complemented inside by modern furnishings, a neutral colour palette and exposed timber beams. With four bedrooms, three bathrooms and ample communal areas, there's enough space here to accommodate up to ten guests. 

The real show stopper, though, is the home's outdoor space. From the lounge, take your morning coffee out onto the covered veranda and gaze in awe at the sweeping vistas across the sea. It's especially striking from the sparkling waters of the infinity pool, where you'll no doubt spend hours trying to decide where the tide ends and the horizon begins. There's also a ping pong table, outdoor barbecue, gym and sauna, as well as snorkelling, fishing and mountain biking equipment available free of charge.

With the famous Blue Caves just a twenty-three-minute walk away and Shipwreck Beach reachable within twenty-five minutes by car or boat, you'll be exploring the island in no time. If you're looking to escape the crowds, just follow the little stone path that takes you from the villa directly to the sea.

Perched on the cliffs of Kefalonia, this traditional stone house is subject to some of the most beautiful views of the Ionian sea. And with stone steps leading down to a coastal path and a beach around 100m from your door, you can see why this villa caught our eye. Though keeping with tradition might mean that some of the decor feels a little dated – something that might not appeal to everyone – the terrace with a private pool, wood-fired oven, old well, and telescope puts most of the focus outside. Plus, there's an additional guest house with a kitchenette and living room that's perfect for guests who need extra privacy.

Located near the quiet and traditional village of Katastari in Zakynthos, this stylish home opens its doors on to the natural beauty of the island.

Overlooked by a rocky hill, we can envision many an afternoon of splashing about in its refreshing waters, drying off naturally on one of the loungers and repeating ad infinitum. When you want a break from the heat, retire to the covered balcony or sprawl out on the living room sofa and enjoy the breeze coming in from the open French door. It's very easy to do nothing but watch the days go by at a satisfyingly slow pace, but if you want a reminder of what the outside world looks like at any point, the seaside resorts of Alikes and Alikanas can be reached by car in under ten minutes.
