Luxury is in the bones of this property, from the super plush sofas and button-back headboards to the ornate tub in the master bathroom. When it comes to places to dine, there's no shortage of indoor and outdoor spots to choose from. Enjoy breakfast on the patio and lunch inside with the French doors thrown open. For dinner, we suggest venturing beyond the villa walls to the nearby town of Poreč. Here, you'll soon stumble across tempting waterfront establishments serving traditional seafood. Wander into the old town and catch sight of the gem-adorned Byzantine mosaics in the Euphrasian Basilica.

Ease & Elegance

Hidden in the hamlet of Vežnaveri, this home has everything you'd want in a peaceful sun-soaked villa. The swimming pool is big enough for everyone and open throughout the summer, with heating available on cooler days. Of the three double bedrooms upstairs, only one of has an en-suite, which is best allocated in advance. You'll have access to the barbeque grill, as well as a ping pong table for the more competitive. While you could easily spend the day on the sun loungers with a good book, there are several nearby options for day trips, including the bustling resort town of Poreč and the Roman ruins of Pula.

Whether you're preparing a hearty breakfast in the sleek and modern kitchen as the sun beams into the home through the floor-to-ceiling windows, or you're downstairs starting your day with a session at the home gym or sauna, this home is the key to getting the best out of your trip. Designed by a renowned Croatian architect, this magazine-worthy villa is a true luxurious retreat. Sleek, design-forward details are everywhere – from the balconies to the multiple terraces. With several outdoor dining areas, a barbecue, and a wood-fired oven, alfresco dining is easy. And you can keep the whole family entertained with the swimming pool, games console, and ping-pong table. This home is on the edge of the medieval town of Kastelir, where you'll find a handful of authentic restaurants. And if you want to venture further afield, you can drive to the famous coastal cities of Porec and Vrsar in thirty minutes.

House of Tranquillity

This villa in Labin, Istria, is as stylish as it is well located. With interiors that could have come straight from a design magazine and restaurants, beaches, and charming towns like Rabac just a short drive away, it’s a dream Croatian stay. Set in total seclusion, you’ve got a heated pool, plenty of outdoor lounge spots, and a sleek outdoor kitchen. There’s also a children’s play area to keep little ones busy. Inside, the luxury furnishings provide lots of Instagrammable vignettes, and there’s a home bar for quiet nights in. You’ll need to hire a car, but it’s worth it for the private, resort-like feel.

Heavenly Haven

Sit back, relax, and soak up the Istrian scenery at this villa. It's made for lazy days at home, with its private pool, outdoor lounge, and views towards Poreč from the Juliet balcony. Inside, a well-equipped kitchen has you covered for meals at home, or you can fire up the grill when you're in the mood to barbecue. The lounge is on the smaller side, and the two bedrooms upstairs are interconnected, which takes some getting used to. But with Poreč and Rovinj about twenty minutes away – not to mention plenty of space outside in the garden – we think it's a laid-back option for a family getaway. 

Istrian Tale

Split across two equally charming, traditionally Croatian villas, this home has plenty of room for a big group to spread out. It feels as though there are endless options for lounging outside – on loungers beneath wooden pergolas, on plush outdoor sofas on patios and on deckchairs in the shade. There are also a handful of alfresco dining options; a cluster of comfy seats and coffee tables for a casual set-up, or for the whole group in the dedicated outdoor dining room, covered and with a built-in barbecue. The highlight of the outdoors has to be the swimming pool though, glittering and inviting you for a dip on a sunny day.

The main villa houses four of the bedrooms within its honey-brown walls. Here you’ll find an open-plan living area streaming with sunshine from floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors, and a table for group dinners inside. There’s a boho charm to woven lampshades and pops of green add a touch of holiday cheer. The second villa houses two of the bedrooms and has its own open-plan living space with a second kitchen and dining area in striking black and red.

You’re in the heart of the Istrian countryside here, where the hills are filled with hikes to secret waterfalls, rolling vineyards and the crumbling ruins of castles. The Slovenian border is less than twenty minutes drive and if you want to head to the coast, the charming ancient fishing village of Poreč juts out into the sea a forty-minute drive away. Closer to home, explore the idyllic streets of medieval Motovun, a five-minute drive. 

A Daughter of the Moon

You don't come across a villa with its own squash hall every day, but that's exactly what's in store here. Sporty types can enjoy some friendly games –there's also ping pong if you're not keen on squash. Outside, we're sure everyone will appreciate the private pool. After a dip, gather on the terrace for an alfresco meal or a few sundowners. Inside, it's slick and modern, albeit a tad soulless. With a winery nearby, a beach within driving distance, and pretty Poreč just 8 kilometres away, exploring will be a breeze, too.

Boast & Rally

Set along the Croatian coastline, this home is ideal for a family or group of friends. Here, you'll be treated to sea views, an enclosed garden that's perfect for the little ones to let loose, a swimming pool and a hot tub. Spend your days soaking up the sun or cooking up a storm in the alfresco kitchen. That said, you could just as easily head out to dine in one of the local restaurants, only a few minutes' drive away. With the beach just a touch further afield, and lots to see and do in the locale, this place makes an ideal base for those hoping to see the best of Istria.

A Pearl Vista

If you’re looking to experience the natural beauty of Istria, this home couldn’t be a better choice. You’ll be welcomed by stunning views, a peaceful garden and a private saltwater pool. The terrace is perfect for sunset drinks and there’s a barbecue. Inside, the open-plan layout is perfect for cosy gatherings and all three of the bedrooms come with en-suite bathrooms for privacy. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just a short drive to the village of Zamask, while the coastal towns of Umag and Poreč are a forty-minute drive away. 


A True Gift

Situated in the centre of a picturesque town called Bale, this modern villa is a stark contrast to its surrounding cobbled streets and old stone architecture. With serene outdoor seating areas, you can watch Istrian sunsets and enjoy countryside views far beyond your tidy garden. 

Inside every room, you will see the chic interior design and statement mood lighting, creating a calm and restful atmosphere. Although, we suspect you'll be spending most of your time around the private pool. Why not sample the local produce in this spotless kitchen and cook with Istrian olive oil – all while sipping a glass of Croatian wine? 

After exploring the stunning Soardo-Bembo Palace – and the crypt under the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary – cool off beneath your outdoor shower. If you visit Bale in August, open up these fitted wardrobes and get dressed up for the Last Minute Jazz Festival. At night, unwind in an olive green bedroom and read a book by lamplight.
