The best spot for waterfront gazing is the balcony – a glass of wine, optional – but even the kitchen window catches a glimpse of the rolling waves. That sure makes washing up all the more exciting. Sadly, the garden doesn't show off the vistas, but with a private pool, alfresco dining area and children's playground, you'll still be set to worship the Croatian rays. And while the interior isn't nearly as impressive as the panoramas, it's comfortable nonetheless – plus the location is spot-on, walking distance from Pisak beach and village, and only a thirty-minute drive from magical Makarska.

The first thing that grabbed us was the private swim platform straight into the sparkling Adriatic Sea at this Brač villa. Spend days slipping into the crystal clear water, perfect for swimming in the protected bay, and dry out on a lounger on the stone terrace. Or perhaps take out one of the kayaks or paddle-boards. There's also a private mooring spot for boats and a swimming pool to boot. Dine on private terraces and balconies shaded by fragrant pine trees. Or, perhaps head into the quiet harbour town of Sumartin, a six-minute drive away, where the ferry runs to Makarska on the mainland. 

The home itself is a vision of boho-chic with artefacts from across the globe adorning raw wood shelves, cacti and straw lampshades. We can’t decide if our favourite piece is the hand-carved wooden dining table that feels as though it was acquired in a Balinese market, or the azulejo tiles in the master bathroom. The original stone features of the home have been restored too, like the rope-lined staircase and balustraded balconies. The only difficult choice here is which beautifully decorated bedroom you want to bag for your own.

Many coastal properties may boast about having the sea on your doorstep, and most of them are exaggerating. Here, we don’t embellish the facts, so when we tell you The Sulidae is just metres from the gentle lapping of the waves, you can believe us. Skip just a few stone steps down from the terrace and you’re getting your feet wet in the glittering waters of the Adriatic, or climbing onto your private boat to explore the islands and surrounding coastline. The home definitely makes the most of the view, with numerous balconies facing out over the sea, but that doesn’t mean the interiors are an afterthought; the beachy and contemporary aesthetic is a continuation of the natural landscape of the bay and calls to mind the traditional homes on this Croatian island. Here, you’ll feel simultaneously awestruck and right at home.

The outdoor area features a blue-tiled pool, a brick barbecue, and comfortable seating and loungers. Inside, the living space is spread over two floors. The open, fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to rustle up dinner, and sliding glass doors lead to the terrace. There are two spacious and modern bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. The villa includes air conditioning and heating for comfort. This is the heart of Dalmatia, about 70 km from Split and right on the Makarska Riviera. The area rises steeply to the Biokovo Mountains, where hikers can enjoy fantastic views over the coastline.

Our favourite thing about this sleek, modern villa is the view from the swimming pool. Gazing out over the infinity edge, you can see a handful of green islands floating in the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The big terrace out the front is also home to sun loungers, a dining spot and a glorious sunken Jacuzzi. 

The villa itself feels as though glass boxes have been stacked on top of each other, taking full advantage of that fabulous sea view. Slide open the wall-sized glass doors in the living room to melt the barrier between indoors and outdoors and watch the boats drift by from the comfort of the leather sofas. The huge, dine-in kitchen area is more than big enough to handle the bustle of group breakfasts and the whole open-plan area is bathed in sunlight during the day.

Those that want to keep on top of their fitness schedule can make use of the home’s private gym, and soothe sore muscles in the sauna after. Bedrooms are crisp white and blue, made bright by walls of windows. And the main bedroom has its own private balcony.

Location-wise, you’re on the edge of Hvar Town, a 500-metre walk from the centre where harbourside bars and restaurants await.

The chic kitchen and modern living/dining area provide luxurious comfort. The other two houses have a large double bed and a fireplace respectively, creating a cosy atmosphere for guests to relax in. The villa is situated approximately 1km from the nearest beach and 8km from Makarska, offering easy access to supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants that serve typical Dalmatian cuisine. Guests can also enjoy day trips to popular destinations such as Dubrovnik, Split, Omis, Mostar, as well as the Biokovo Nature Park for some adventure activities like hiking or biking.
