Welcome to this cosy retreat, surrounded by age-old olive trees. Time seems to have stopped here – the traditional exterior and interiors hark back to a bygone era, and we love the open fireplace. Sure, like most older homes, this place has its quirks. But you do have mod cons like a beautiful swimming pool, an outdoor stereo system, barbecue and kitchen area. The garden is a paradise – our favourite spot has to be the vine-covered gazebo. If you can tear yourself away, explore the nearby Castellana Grotte or head to the coast.

This charming villa is made up of a trullo and a lamia made from local stone – staying here, you get a taste of authentic southern Italian living. It’s just 4 kilometres from the town centre of Castellana Grotte, and 15 kilometres from iconic Alberobello. It’s in a great position for exploring Puglia, though we’d recommend bringing a car to do so. The home is traditional and inviting. We love the panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, which can be enjoyed from the terrace. Outside, you’ll find a private pool in addition to a fantastic alfresco dining area – there’s a pizza oven and barbecue to cook on.

Built on three levels, this villa has panoramic views of the garden and the countryside from the upper-level terraces. We love the pool surrounded by daybeds and a pergola-shaded dining area (there’s a vineyard within the grounds as well). Inside, there’s plenty of room for entertaining. All bedrooms are en-suite and four have access to a private terrace (at full occupancy some guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in two of the bedrooms). Also, one bedroom is in a separate building on the roof terrace, perfect for those wanting more privacy. You may not want to leave this oasis of calm and luxury, but if you do, you’ll find the charming town of Polignano a Mare, 6 kilometres away.

On the outskirts of Polignano a Mare, you'll find this contemporary villa. It's perched on a hill overlooking the coast, so if sea views are what you're after, this is the place for you. We reckon you'll spend most days floating in the pool, dining on the extensive terrace, or swinging in the hammock under the olive trees. The breezy interiors also offer panoramas, as well as comfortable spots to lounge away from the sun. Of course, with Puglia's beautiful beaches an easy drive away, day trips will also be on the cards.

Elsewhere, half an hour's drive will see you arrive at Polignano a Mare, which is known for its beautiful beaches and steep limestone cliffs. Finally, approximately fifty kilometres away, the city of Bari is well worth a visit to experience its thriving local food scene.

The train station and coastline are easily accessible on foot, as well as local shops and restaurants.
