Unusually for this packed-in city, this home has a private swimming pool – perfect for cooling off in the height of Puglia's summer. The sheltered terrace looks over the pool and we love the idea of long lunches or late dinners with friends here. Alternatively, Lecce's many seafood restaurants are only a short stroll along the cobbled streets. The house is in the centre of the city, with Roman amphitheatres, medieval castles, and grand cathedrals all jostling for space. On warmer days, it's less than a thirty-minute drive to the Mediterranean and many seaside tavernas.

You'll find this ground-floor apartment in the historic heart of Lecce. All the must-haves and must-sees are within strolling distance here – Piazza Mazzini is five minutes away, Castello Carlo is walkable in ten, and countless bars, restaurants, and shops are nearby. Though the apartment lacks a living area, it's a good option for those keen to spend all their time exploring. Some rooms lack natural light, but there's a private patio where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. All three bedrooms are comfortable, and two have desks for remote workers – just note that the single is accessed through bedroom two.

Leccese Cream

Hidden away in a quiet spot in Lecce's old town, this home is a lot more contemporary than its location would imply. There's a minimalist streak to the living quarters, with stark white walls lending an innate brightness and the kitchen full of clean lines and sleek surfaces.

You'll notice that there are a few historic touches in the outdoor space, however. The patio is surrounded by walls made of golden stone typical of the region and made all the more pretty with the presence of overhanging branches that lend a little privacy. If it's too cold to sit in the open air, there's also a roofed terrace that's just as relaxing in our books.

If sightseeing is high up on your list during your stay, you'll be happy to learn that the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Roman amphitheatre both lie around the corner from the apartment. It won't take you too long to reach the beach at San Cataldo in the car, either.

It’s a town brimming with history, from the ancient Roman amphitheatre to the medieval castle of Carlo V. 

After a day pounding the time-worn streets of the historic centre, retreat to this apartment hidden behind an ancient door and courtyard. Stepping past the old stone walls typical of Lecce’s old town, you’ll find a surprisingly modern interior – a kitchen with everything you need to replicate Puglia’s culinary delights and a dining table big enough for four. But plenty of traditional touches give the home’s history away, such as the wooden shutters, carved dressers and huge, dark wood wardrobe in the bedroom. It is a tad noisy though, but we think that's worth it for the central location.

Choose whether to check yourself in on arrival or to be greeted by your host for a friendly first introduction to your new home away from home. With three separate buildings on the estate to accommodate guests, it’s the perfect base for large groups keen to surround themselves with nature. Dating back to the late 16th century, its past is present in so many beautiful details, including the historic colonnade, built by the Jesuit monks in the 18th century – yet the decor is tasteful and modern. Add in two underground olive mills, a small church, spa, gym, wine cellar and tasting room, sun-kissed terraces and a private pool, and it’s not hard to see why this home caught our eye.

Even before you arrive at this striking and historic masseria farmhouse, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Located close to ancient gates that were built to protect the medieval town of Galatina from attack and with areas dating back to the sixteenth century, Torre Galatina really gives off a sense of history and laidback grandeur. Summer days can be spend outdoors in the pretty gardens and plenty of charming chill-out zones. And let’s not forget about the 16th-century tower that houses a tasteful bedroom, private living area and terrace. We particularly enjoyed gazing at the scenic views from here.
