The cosy breakfast area is perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee and a home-cooked meal in the morning before heading out to explore the town.

You'll be within easy distance of the magnificent Piazzo del Duomo here, a famous square housing a baroque cathedral considered by many to be the most beautiful building in the city. Many of the area's main craft shops, wine bars, markets and restaurants are all within walking distance of the apartment, should you fancy a little retail therapy or a taste of the local cuisine. 

When you get home after a day of wandering along the town's cobblestone lanes, head home to enjoy an evening drinking wine in the private courtyard. 

Salento Star Vaults

Hidden away in a quiet spot in Lecce's old town, this home is a lot more contemporary than its location would imply. There's a minimalist streak to the living quarters, with stark white walls lending an innate brightness and the kitchen full of clean lines and sleek surfaces.

You'll notice that there are a few historic touches in the outdoor space, however. The patio is surrounded by walls made of golden stone typical of the region and made all the more pretty with the presence of overhanging branches that lend a little privacy. If it's too cold to sit in the open air, there's also a roofed terrace that's just as relaxing in our books.

If sightseeing is high up on your list during your stay, you'll be happy to learn that the Basilica of Santa Croce and the Roman amphitheatre both lie around the corner from the apartment. It won't take you too long to reach the beach at San Cataldo in the car, either.

We recommend navigating the narrow alleyways until you’ve found your cobbled way to the cluster of chapels that make up the Cattedrale Maria Santissima Assunta e S.Oronzo. Stop off for coffee before walking to the old 18th-century gates, Porta Rudiae. 

See a show at the amphitheatre before returning home to put your feet up with a good glass of wine.

Indulging in Lecce

This apartment puts you in the historic heart of Lecce, where narrow streets are home to pasta shops and family-run trattoria that have been in business for generations. You might spot nonnas making fresh orecchiette at rickety tables between the ancient churches. It’s a town brimming with history, from the ancient Roman amphitheatre to the medieval castle of Carlo V. 

After a day pounding the time-worn streets of the historic centre, retreat to this apartment hidden behind an ancient door and quiet courtyard. Stepping past the old stone walls typical of Lecce’s old town, you’ll find a surprisingly modern interior – a kitchen with everything you need to replicate Puglia’s culinary delights and a dining table big enough for four. But plenty of traditional touches give the home’s history away, such as the wooden shutters, carved dressers and huge, dark wood wardrobe in the bedroom. 

Oleander Seeds

Tucked away in the quiet San Lazzaro district, this cosy apartment offers some peace and quiet within a few steps of the historic centre of Lecce. Boasting close proximity to some of the city's most famous monuments, begin the day by whipping up breakfast and a cup of coffee in the kitchen before heading off to explore. 

Walk for a few minutes and you'll reach Piazza Sant'Oronzo, which is at the heart of the Old Town. With its beautiful frescoed ceiling, arched walls, and cavernous spaces, this apartment makes for an atmospheric stay in the heart of the Baroque city of Lecce. Alongside historical features such as traditional shutters, the home has pops of modernity, from the bright artwork to the blue chandeliers.  Unusually for this packed-in city, this home has a private swimming pool – perfect for cooling off in the height of Puglia's summer. The sheltered terrace looks over the pool and we love the idea of long lunches or late dinners with friends here. Alternatively, Lecce's many seafood restaurants are only a short stroll along the cobbled streets. The house is in the centre of the city, with Roman amphitheatres, medieval castles, and grand cathedrals all jostling for space. On warmer days, it's less than a thirty-minute drive to the Mediterranean and many seaside tavernas.
