Situated in Lecce's hamlet of Salignano, this villa boasts a heated private pool and a lovely garden with space for sitting out in the sunshine or dining in the shade. The decor here is quite traditional and perhaps won't be to everyone's taste, but we think the location is great. The ancient Heroon Centopietre, an enigmatic tomb of the noble hero Gimignano, is a short walk away, while the Ionian Sea is easily reached by car, whether you head west to the Marina di San Gregorio beach or east to Il Ciolo.

There are two porches to enjoy, with an outdoor seating area and a barbecue for family feasts under the stars. The villa itself is a simple space with rustic style and modern comforts – it’s an excellent base for a relaxing Italian break.

On the very tip of Italy’s “heel” this apartment sits in the sunny harbour town of Leuca. Sample the seafood restaurants by the water or head out to find a rugged coastline punctuated with secret sandy bays. The apartment is on the top floor of a traditional-style villa with a huge sun trap of a terrace looking out over the harbour. Out here, you can dine, recline and wash sandy feet in the outdoor show after days at the beach. Inside, it’s a little old-fashioned in terms of decor and the kitchen won’t win any awards for modernity, but the sea views from each window are what makes this place stand out.

Bedroom-wise, all are comfy and serene affairs – one even has its own kitchenette. If you can drag yourself away, Santa Maria di Leuca is close by. From here, apply your sea legs and discover legendary sea caves where the water is clear blue. Or just pull up a seat in a local restaurant and eat some of the best seafood known to man.

It's all about the location in this Santa Maria di Leuca home, a villa surrounded by olive trees and lush scrub. While we weren't enamoured with the interior, what with its tired-looking furniture and bare bedrooms, it's functional – and we don't think you're coming to be indoors all day, anyway. While there's no pool, the garden has a few nice spots to relax and dine, and you're just a short drive from the centre of town. Just beyond that is the gorgeous coast – perfect for a midday swim in the ocean.

This home offers an authentic taste of life in Southern Italy. You'll find Gagliano del Capo's amenities and Saturday market within 200 metres. There are two outdoor terraces and a separate kitchenette here, ideal for preparing alfresco bites. While the second bedroom has a doorless archway up on the mezzanine level, this stylish fusion of old and new wins us over. The Ciolo path leads you to a rocky inlet with a tiny beach, though some may prefer the sands a fifteen-minute drive away.

Nestled outside Santa Maria di Leuca and boasting sea views, this modern villa offers plenty of space for six guests to spread out across its three floors. Crisp and clean, it has all the mod-cons you’d expect, while sun worshipers will be delighted by the abundance of outdoor space, perfect for soaking up the rays – although it’s worth noting, this home is overlooked by neighbouring villas. If the beach is calling your name, there’s a lovely pebble beach within walking distance, or if you prefer to feel the sand between your toes, the nearest sandy beach is just one kilometre away.

And you’re in luck – Pescoluse beach, nicknamed the ‘Maldives of Salento’, is a mere two kilometres away.

Made of lime render and stone – this newly-constructed villa is the perfect combination of modernity and the vernacular style of the area. A peaceful retreat – it's geared towards relaxation. We adore the countryside and sea views from both inside and out. 

The Mediterranean-style, private garden features a lawn, succulents and herbs, as well as numerous elegantly furnished areas where you can unwind and dine alfresco – there's a great barbecue area in typical local stone. Take a dip in the gorgeous swimming pool, then dry off on a sun lounger.

Inside vaulted ceilings and stone arches imbue character. Enjoy some pasticciotto, a custard or ricotta-filled pastry, in the dining room for breakfast before heading out to explore the area. It's around a fifteen-minute stroll or two-minute drive to the bone-white sands and crystal clear waters of Spiaggia di Pescoluse – total bliss.

This apartment is part of a complex of holiday homes in Santa Maria di Leuca. It’s 500 metres from the town centre, and you can reach the sea in less than five minutes. The apartment is spread over two floors, connected by a spiral staircase, with the top floor opening onto a terrace. Here, you can dine alfresco and admire sea views. Best of all, there’s a Jacuzzi for you to chill out in. It’s worth pointing out that two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, which isn’t the most private setup.

The main villa’s living area also has panoramic vistas from its large windows and there are three bedrooms. Situated less than 1 kilometre from Santa Maria di Leuca, with its sandy beach, the location is perfect for families or friends looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun.
