In the 16th century, this home was a grand mansion. It’s since been renovated into a series of beautiful apartments, each one a splendid base for exploring historic Ostuni. This apartment features a striking domed ceiling above the mezzanine-level bedroom, and has a petite balcony where you can sip vino and watch the action of the square below. There isn't much space but it's a good fit for a couple, and we think the communal spaces – including an ancient chapel and a relaxation area – more than make up for it.

This traditional home is packed full of character. Made up of two separate stone dwellings – a trullo and a lamia – rented as one, it’s a great choice for a group getaway. While the authentic buildings won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, we love the cone-shaped roof and dry stone walls here. With a private pool, alfresco kitchen, and shaded eating areas, outdoor living is easy. And when you’re ready to explore, the historic town of Ostuni, with its Medieval architecture and Adriatic views, is just a walk away.

We think at most two adults can stay here comfortably as it’s on the smaller side – the pull-out bed is definitely better suited to children. Located in a sixteenth-century building in the heart of Ostuni, this functional apartment makes a great base for exploring the historic town. We were big fans of the small industrial kitchenette, while the stone walls and arching brick ceilings speak to the building's history. The living area only being accessible by a ladder isn't exactly convenient, but luckily you'll find plenty of shared spaces within the building – perfect if you're looking to mingle with your fellow guests. And the communal bath area strikes us as ideal for unwinding after a day traversing Ostuni's winding streets.

This ancient, light-stone property in Ostuni offers big groups exclusive use of a B&B in the centre of town. A breakfast buffet is included every day – best enjoyed at the scattering of tables on the sunny terrace – and guests have private use of the small, heated spa pool. There is plenty of space to dine, but the kitchen is set up as a B&B counter and there isn’t a dedicated living room. Bedrooms are all suites and some have their own seating areas and mini bars. Those who appreciate a little more privacy can bag one of the bedrooms that has direct street access.

The domed ceiling gives a nod to its history and is the first thing you see on waking in the morning. And while the home isn’t the biggest, it’s comfortable for two and is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful old town of Ostuni – perfect for those just wanting to drop their bags and head straight out to immerse themselves in the Italian lifestyle.

The charm and history of the home have been retained – you can even visit the original chapel, and the coat of arms of one of the first families to own the home can be seen on the front door. Inside, space is limited, and the sleeping arrangements aren’t the most comfortable or private – we think this is best suited to one adult and one child sharing. You will have access to the shared lounge and relaxation area though, giving you a bit more room to spread out.

In central Ostuni, this rustic apartment is situated in a renovated 16th-century mansion and is in a great spot for getting to know the city. You won't find much parking here, and the kitchen is certainly on the smaller side. Spend your days exploring on foot, getting lost in the picturesque squares and meandering along the white-washed streets. The design is a bit more bare-bones than we're used to – for instance, the kitchenette lacks an oven and the main bedroom is open to the lounge – but we're fans of the stone walls and arched ceilings. Besides, plenty of eateries are within walking distance, so it makes a great starting point for sightseeing.
