A local team of architects and designers have painstaking brought this traditional Trulli-style home back to life. From the fairytale cone roofs of the old section to the thick white walls of local stone and lime. Now, it’s a relaxing retreat for a small group with a glorious infinity pool at its core. Lined with loungers, this is the perfect place to cool off from the hot southern sun. There’s dining for the whole group out here too, in the full outdoor kitchen. You can admire the silhouettes of ancient olive trees as the sun sets over the countryside.

It's not a trip to Puglia without a stay in a trullo house, and this is a gorgeous one. Located in the rolling countryside, within easy reach of some of the area's historic towns, it's a great place to begin your Italian adventures. 

The traditional stone building has plenty of original touches – you'll love the conical roofs and decorative fireplace that provides a rustic charm. When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. And, there's no better place to serve up your culinary creations than outside on the patio, as you breathe in the fresh air and admire the lush greenery surrounding you. 

When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

Set less than one hundred metres from Ceglie Messapica's bustling pedestrianised hub and just an easy drive from the coast and Ostuni, the location of this apartment is spot-on. While the period home's vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework are impressive, there are a few compromises to make. Expect a small kitchenette that's better suited to lighter bites rather than large slap-up meals, and there's no outdoor space to speak of. But for a bolthole this characterful, we can forgive that.

Just seconds away from the gorgeous Ionian Coast, this two-storey home's beachside location more than makes up for its lack of a pool. There are several spots to look out over the turquoise water here – perfect for alfresco dining or a sunset cocktail. You'll even find an outdoor Jacuzzi to retire to once it's dark. Indoors, we weren't as keen on the simple decor, but everything you'll need for an extended stay is there. If you tire of days at the beach – and given the home provides access to kayaks, we'll wonder if you will – you'll find the historic towns of Sava and Taranto a short drive away.

Located just 5km away from the centre of Polignano a Mare, this villa is a little world of its own. It's perfect for groups of friends and family who want to catch up, dine like kings and enjoy the balmy Italian climate in style. 

The neutral colour palette inside creates a sense of calm – come in, drop your bags, and make yourself comfortable. We especially love the luxurious bathrooms, with their natural stone and large walk in showers, creating a spa-like experience. Step outside, and you'll be greeted by a shimmering swimming pool that's ideal for cooling off when the mercury rises. There's also a summer kitchen and barbeque for alfresco feasts galore – don't forget the prosecco. 

Take a quick drive down to the heart of Polignano a Mare to explore the clifftop town's historic streets and charming restaurants. Cala Porto Beach is a great spot to sit and read, while the town's piazza is the best place to do some people-watching with a cool drink. And, if you fancy exploring further afield, the wonderful Puglian countryside is right on your doorstep.

Stunning inside and out, this trullo is characterised by exposed stone walls, elegant archways and soaring ceilings. Some modern additions ensure its practicality as a gorgeous getaway perfect for multi-generational families or groups of friends, with spacious bedrooms and sleek en-suites ensuring plenty of privacy.

The outdoor space is a haven, with an inviting pool shrouded by olive trees and lush gardens, so you're free to top up your tan or seek solace in the shade of a nearby tree. In addition, there are a couple of fantastic outdoor dining areas and a wood-fired barbecue, where we'd be tempted to cook all our meals.

Set on a hectare of land and surrounded by fields, the trullo offers a tranquil space to unwind far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If you can rouse yourself from your relaxation, the quaint streets and piazzas of Ceglie Messapica are approximately fifteen minutes away. The best thing about this enchanting town? Its enviable array of restaurants that serve up mouthwatering Puglian specialities. 

Alternatively, drive 30km or so in the opposite direction, and you'll arrive on Puglia's awe-inspiring Adriatic coast. Its shimmering azure waters and white sand beaches are more than a match for the Maldives.

This stone house is a charming base for six in Monopoli. It’s close to the seafront, and boasts wonderful views of the sea and the historic city centre from the terrace. We love the alfresco dining area in the shade of the pergola, too – you’ll likely spend most of your time here outside. Inside, there are lots of stairs to navigate so it’s not a suitable choice for those with children under six. There are cosy corners for moments of relaxation, and quirky details that add charm.

With the Italian sun beating down, don your sun hat and settle down on a lounger with a good book and a refreshing glass of white wine for ultimate relaxation. When you crave a little respite from the heat of the day, sink into your pool and enjoy a fun-filled few hours with loved ones. 

If you can tear yourself away from this home, meander through the quaint streets of the local towns or just a stone's throw further, you will be met with the picturesque coastline. Our favourite space is the main bedroom, where a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi bath is the perfect way to end the day. Just note that two bedrooms don't have air conditioning.

Tucked between the countryside and the stunning Puglian coast, this home offers the best of both worlds. Set off by car and explore the UNESCO-listed Valle d'Itria, or dive East towards Monopoli and Polignano a Mare for a day by the sea. During downtime, make yourself comfortable back home. Keen cooks will have three kitchens at their disposal here, including one outdoors ideal for barbecues. The swimming pool (which can be heated for a fee) will entice you for an afternoon dip, while the covered terrace makes a sweet spot for sundowners. With four en-suite bedrooms, including a sprawling main suite on the top floor, we think it's the perfect family pad.

Nestled in the heart of Old Gallipoli, this wonderfully authentic, light filled home has it all –beautifully preserved historical features, modern home comforts, and the perfect central location. Magnificent vaulted ceilings, original frescoes, and age-old cement tiled floors give you a taste of the region's past while the private roof terrace offers spectacular views out across the Ionian Sea. Accessed via an internal staircase, this is the perfect place to relax come morning, noon or night-time. You’ll want to laze on the sunbed before cooling off under the outdoor shower, barbeque and eat alfresco at the gazebo covered dining table or cosy up together with a glass of wine beneath the stars. 

Alternatively spend the day at the Beach of Purity, a mere 200 metres away, or by exploring the old town centre’s numerous Baroque churches and aristocratic palazzi before strolling down to the sea-front promenade and sampling one of the city’s many cafes, bars and restaurants. You'll find this ground-floor apartment in the historic heart of Lecce. All the must-haves and must-sees are within strolling distance here – Piazza Mazzini is five minutes away, Castello Carlo is walkable in ten, and countless bars, restaurants, and shops are nearby. Though the apartment lacks a living area, it's a good option for those keen to spend all their time exploring. Some rooms lack natural light, but there's a private patio where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. All three bedrooms are comfortable, and two have desks for remote workers – just note that the single is accessed through bedroom two.

If you’re seeking a picturesque home in central Monopoli, this second-floor apartment is just the ticket. There’s no parking here, but this city on the Adriatic Sea is easily explored on foot. Speaking of, you’ll find the Baroque Monopoli Cathedral, the 16th-century Castle of Carlo V, and the frescoed Palmieri Palace within walking distance. Located within a period building, you’ll find plenty of original features here. Though you’ll need to climb the stairs up, you'll love spending evenings on the rooftop terrace relaxing with wine and grilling up dinners.

It’s an ideal base for a family or group of friends, with flexible sleeping arrangements courtesy of two double bedrooms also hosting a single bed and a sofa bed in the living room. We think families and couples will settle right in – the sofa bed adds flexibility to the sleeping arrangements and your host can provide children's equipment on request. The kitchen lacks a full-sized oven, but you'll have everything you need for cooking up light bites or small meals. To elevate your stay further, your host can arrange a variety of extra services from housekeeping to private tours.

With its rustic stone walls settled into the hillside, a series of sandy turrets dot about this complex to divide the living space into little apartments and private dwellings. Each bone-white stone structure is home to a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the outside space connecting them all together. Inside, comfy beds are nestled in archways and circular rooms have bare stone walls for an authentic feel. There’s no shortage of mod-cons though, with flatscreen TVs and desks for remote working if you need.

Really, though, this place was made for outdoor living, making the most of the sunny climes of Italy’s heel. There’s a full outdoor kitchen with a traditional stone bread oven, and myriad places to dine in the sun or shade – the choice is yours.
