There are several spots to look out over the turquoise water here – perfect for alfresco dining or a sunset cocktail. You'll even find an outdoor Jacuzzi to retire to once it's dark. Indoors, we weren't as keen on the simple decor, but everything you'll need for an extended stay is there. If you tire of days at the beach – and given the home provides access to kayaks, we'll wonder if you will – you'll find the historic towns of Sava and Taranto a short drive away.

Upon entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the soothing earthy tones of the home's original features, including tiled stone floors throughout and whitewashed exposed brickwork in the living area. Antique dark wooden furniture and terracotta ornaments complement the character and complete the home's Mediterranean aesthetic with infinite elegance. Leading out to the garden, French doors pave the way to a small terrace featuring day beds by the pool and a shaded chill-out area, which serves as the perfect spot for your morning coffee. Another large pergola offers a second living area, bringing the indoors outside – with a plush corner sofa, outdoor kitchen and dining table that remain shaded from the sun. This luscious corner of the home is a hidden gem that allows guests to relax as they would inside without compromising on losing garden views overlooking the countryside with olive and fruit trees growing all around.

The neutral colour palette inside creates a sense of calm – come in, drop your bags, and make yourself comfortable. We especially love the luxurious bathrooms, with their natural stone and large walk in showers, creating a spa-like experience. Step outside, and you'll be greeted by a shimmering swimming pool that's ideal for cooling off when the mercury rises. There's also a summer kitchen and barbeque for alfresco feasts galore – don't forget the prosecco. 

Take a quick drive down to the heart of Polignano a Mare to explore the clifftop town's historic streets and charming restaurants. Cala Porto Beach is a great spot to sit and read, while the town's piazza is the best place to do some people-watching with a cool drink. And, if you fancy exploring further afield, the wonderful Puglian countryside is right on your doorstep.

If peace and quiet are what you look for in a holiday, the slow pace of life at this Italian villa will suit you perfectly. It’s just a three-minute drive from the centre of Ceglie Messapica but feels like the middle of nowhere – it’s surrounded by acres of centuries-old olive groves and fruit trees, and you can even pick your own fruit. You'll definitely need a car to make the most of your stay though. The outside space is dreamy, with an outdoor kitchen and salt-water infinity pool, but the villa is unique. It’s housed in a restored Trullo, so you can live like a local and soak up the region's history.

A former aristocratic villa left to ruin –⁠ the home has been expertly reimagined by its owner (handily, an award-winning architect) to create a contemporary palace made for modern living.

Beneath its lofty, vaulted ceilings, fine art, photography, and furniture from some of the 20th Century greats add layers of interest and style –⁠ while marble-clad finishes and statement lighting bring all the luxury. And there's room for you all to spill out here, as each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom.

Sunny mornings call for expressos on the vast terraces outside before a few lazy laps in the pool. Then up the ante with a game of table tennis or a walk around the four hectares of ancient olive and citrus groves. 

When thoughts turn to food, gather your ensemble beneath the shady pergola on the outdoor dining terrace for a feast of focaccia, burrata, and other Apulian delicacies – the chef-worthy gallery kitchen makes cooking a joy. Or head into the graceful city of Lecce (a ten-minute drive) to eat out instead – its baroque architecture, upmarket boutiques, and authentic restaurants is an afternoon well spent.

A local team of architects and designers have painstaking brought this traditional Trulli-style home back to life. From the fairytale cone roofs of the old section to the thick white walls of local stone and lime. Now, it’s a relaxing retreat for a small group with a glorious infinity pool at its core. Lined with loungers, this is the perfect place to cool off from the hot southern sun. There’s dining for the whole group out here too, in the full outdoor kitchen. You can admire the silhouettes of ancient olive trees as the sun sets over the countryside.    

Inside, every original detail and modern flourish feels like it has been carefully considered, from hand-picked crockery to candle-filled stone fireplaces. The kitchen is all sleek modernity, and the bedrooms are decked out in boho style with crisp white walls and straw-coloured accents.

You’re in the heart of the blissfully quiet Puglian countryside here, but a twelve-minute drive takes you to the buzzing old town of Ceglie Messapica, where ancient church bells chime on a Sunday and cafés spill out into squares. The UNESCO town of Ostuni is just a twenty-minute drive too – perfect for a day trip.

It's not a trip to Puglia without a stay in a trullo house, and this is a gorgeous one. Located in the rolling countryside, within easy reach of some of the area's historic towns, it's a great place to begin your Italian adventures. 

The traditional stone building has plenty of original touches – you'll love the conical roofs and decorative fireplace that provides a rustic charm. When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. And, there's no better place to serve up your culinary creations than outside on the patio, as you breathe in the fresh air and admire the lush greenery surrounding you. 

When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

Consisting of a main house, a traditional Trullo and renovated stable rooms, you’ll be welcomed by a wonderful sense of character along with plenty of space to relax and enjoy this beautiful location. Highlights include the natural swimming pool, the private hot tub and a range of extra services – including wellness treatments and private chefs. Housekeeping is included in your stay, children’s amenities can be provided, plus it’s just a short drive to the centre of Ceglie Messapica – just five minutes away.

Set less than one hundred metres from Ceglie Messapica's bustling pedestrianised hub and just an easy drive from the coast and Ostuni, the location of this apartment is spot-on. While the period home's vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework are impressive, there are a few compromises to make. Expect a small kitchenette that's better suited to lighter bites rather than large slap-up meals, and there's no outdoor space to speak of. But for a bolthole this characterful, we can forgive that.

Perched on the outskirts of Matera, this apartment is just the right amount of stylish and charming. Its highlight is undoubtedly the solarium, with space for alfresco dining and sunbathing. The en-suite bathtub is sunken into the ground, offering spectacular views through the French doors. There's space to park for free on the street, but the city centre is so close that you won't necessarily need a car to get the most out of your stay here. You'll have easy access to Matera's fantastic restaurants and truly unique architecture, with buildings built into the natural caves of the Murgia.

Serene Abode

Welcome to the d'Itria Valley, famous for its trulli buildings – dry stone huts with conical roofs, once used by farm workers. For a stay in an extraordinary home, this trulli complex is an astonishing piece of rural architecture, renovated in a way that respects the original stone design while providing some modern comforts. As romantic as it gets, it's surrounded by its own vineyards, olive groves and cherry trees (the fruit of which you’re free to pick in the summer). Spend your days idling by the private pool, strolling through the grapevines and exploring the Apulian countryside. It may not be part of the trulli UNESCO World Heritage Site at Alberobello, but it's cut from the same cloth and just a fifteen-minute drive away.

Wake up early and enjoy mesmerising views across the Itria valley from the balcony, take a dip in the pool, spend lazy afternoons on a sun lounger and gather for golden hour drinks on the terrace. Your host can also arrange a private chef to prepare a delicious Italian-inspired feast – inviting you to sit back and soak up the beauty of this unique location. 

For explorations beyond this peaceful sanctuary, days can be spent strolling the ancient narrow streets of Ostuni and Cisternino, or exploring the beaches nestled along the coast – just a twenty-minute drive away.

A ten-minute drive from Ostuni, this villa offers a dreamy escape in Puglia. The garden was designed to take advantage of the sunshine. You can work out in the outdoor gym, cool off with a dip in the pool, or tuck into an Italian feast on the terrace. Inside, the ivory hues and natural accents fit in perfectly with Puglia's white-washed towns. Our favourite space is the main bedroom, where a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi bath is the perfect way to end the day. Just note that two bedrooms don't have air conditioning.

Ostuni Opal

Secluded away in the rugged beauty of the Puglian countryside, 15km south of the iconic trulli-covered town of Ostuni, this cone-shaped home is an absolute dream for anyone looking to experience a traditional southern Italian stay.

Stunning inside and out, this trullo is characterised by exposed stone walls, elegant archways and soaring ceilings. Some modern additions ensure its practicality as a gorgeous getaway perfect for multi-generational families or groups of friends, with spacious bedrooms and sleek en-suites ensuring plenty of privacy.

The outdoor space is a haven, with an inviting pool shrouded by olive trees and lush gardens, so you're free to top up your tan or seek solace in the shade of a nearby tree. In addition, there are a couple of fantastic outdoor dining areas and a wood-fired barbecue, where we'd be tempted to cook all our meals.

Set on a hectare of land and surrounded by fields, the trullo offers a tranquil space to unwind far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If you can rouse yourself from your relaxation, the quaint streets and piazzas of Ceglie Messapica are approximately fifteen minutes away. The best thing about this enchanting town? Its enviable array of restaurants that serve up mouthwatering Puglian specialities. 

Alternatively, drive 30km or so in the opposite direction, and you'll arrive on Puglia's awe-inspiring Adriatic coast. Its shimmering azure waters and white sand beaches are more than a match for the Maldives.

Experience a truly unique Puglia stay, courtesy of this charming property nestled in the heart of the region’s tranquil countryside. With three separate apartments and an additional cottage, everyone will be able to enjoy privacy, while at the same time the lovely garden and pool area invite to come together and make beautiful memories. 

We love the traditional Trullo design, so evocative of Puglia – we are also all for the lush garden and glistening swimming pool. Gather outside for delicious communal feasts and drinks, and lounge in the warmth of the Italian sun, a good book in hand. 

The inside of the apartments will welcome you with an embrace – expect stone walls, gorgeous wooden details and ceiling beams. The hosts decorated the place with excellent taste, carefully selecting period furnishings and locally crafted objects to match the general ambience. 

Wake up well-rested in any of the comfy bedrooms and get ready to explore – stay close to home and go cycling and hiking, or take the short drive to the coast where colourful villages await.

This delightful villa is tucked away in the gentle hills of Monopoli. It’s just 7 kilometres from the sandy beaches of the Puglian coast, and is close to Monopoli – the perfect spot for a celebratory lunch and an afternoon of shopping. The villa blends modern comfort with Mediterranean style, resulting in a bright and welcoming holiday home. Outside you’ll find centuries-old olive trees around a private pool. There’s also an outdoor kitchen and a covered veranda for dining – what more could you ask for?

Olive Whisper

Rustic in design and classy in nature, this apartment emulates the magic of a secret hideaway, oozing traditional features that you would expect from a chic Italian home. Our favourite spot is the undercover outdoor space, with a delightful hot tub lined with candles. With a seating area making up the rest of the space, a morning coffee or relaxed dinner alfresco would be a lovely way to while away a few hours in this special place. 
 
Inside, it is just as charming – the traditional Italian floor tiling is a masterpiece in itself. Coupled with white-wash walls and stone ceilings, there are elements that will make you think of a grand cathedral. Cool and comfortable, the bedrooms are a lovely peaceful sanctuary from the daytime sun. We love how there is a gentle nod to contemporary style with backlighting on some stunning antique features.
 
On your doorstep, you will be greeted by many restaurants. Follow the smell of garlic and a large bowl of pasta, with a bottle of chilled wine, will await. The traditional features of your home-away-from-home are mirrored beautifully as you meander through the local cobbled streets, which are equally as charming as they are sophisticated. Everything you would want from an Italian stay. 

Let Me Tell You a Secret

Whitewashed, historic and serene, this traditional Trullo provides the ideal setting for an immersive Italian escape. Nestled among the trees of the Itria Valley, you’ll find the rooms are spread across two independent buildings – making this a great option for groups looking to stretch out and enjoy quality time together. Mid-stay housekeeping is included and your host can arrange grocery deliveries for an additional fee. From here, days can be spent lounging by the private pool or out exploring this beautiful region. You will need a car to get around, but it’s just a ten-minute drive to Cisternino, while the nearest beaches are thirty minutes away. 

Tales from the Trullo

This cluster of Trulli homes is like a fairytale illustration come to life. Each bone-white stone structure is home to a separate bedroom, kitchen and living room, with the outside space connecting them all together. Inside, comfy beds are nestled in archways and circular rooms have bare stone walls for an authentic feel. There’s no shortage of mod-cons though, with flatscreen TVs and desks for remote working if you need.

Really, though, this place was made for outdoor living, making the most of the sunny climes of Italy’s heel. There’s a full outdoor kitchen with a traditional stone bread oven, and myriad places to dine in the sun or shade – the choice is yours. Seats in the shade of ancient olive trees provide a moment’s respite. But the piece de resistance has to be the covered hot tub, surrounded by sun loungers to dry off after.

The location is a boon too, just outside the centre of one of Puglia’s prettiest towns – Locorotondo. A cluster of white medieval churches makes up the historic hilltop centre, where winding cobbled streets are filled with family-run trattoria and slow-food eateries. The UNESCO town of Ostuni is also within day-trip distance if you have a car.

Between the olive groves of the Puglian countryside, this villa is a lesson in minimalism and sleek design. An inviting private pool is at the centre of the outdoor space and the dining terrace (with a charcoal barbecue) looks out over ancient olive trees. Accommodation is split between the main building, where you’ll find one of the bedrooms and the sparse living area, kept cool by white stone walls. One of the bedrooms is in its own lamia building and a further bedroom is in the annexe with garden access. It’s a short drive to Ostuni for days wandering the ancient streets, and Brindisi is a short hop in the car.

Pomegranate Wishes

Get in touch with nature and immerse yourself in the Apulian countryside at this beautiful home. Set in the quiet countryside of the Itria Valley, this home is on private farmland – expect to see horses and cows as you stroll through the gardens. The house is peaceful and rustic, surrounded by oak trees and countryside views. Martina Franca is fifteen minutes away, and you’ll be close to the picturesque village of San Paolo, where you can shop for local ingredients for alfresco meals. There’s a swimming pool in the pretty grounds of this rural escape, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine. 

Apulian Roots

Hidden amongst olive trees, this villa is a great base for a Puglia adventure. The outdoor spaces stand out here – the private pool is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, while the alfresco dining area and outdoor kitchen mean you'll rarely need to venture inside. The interior is pleasant, though it lacks natural light in places. And while we loved the exposed brickwork in the living area, one of the beds is here – this might prove inconvenient and makes the home more suitable for families in our eyes. Location-wise, you're well served, because not only is the coast not far away, the charming city of Ostuni is just a 3km drive.
