It's not a trip to Puglia without a stay in a trullo house, and this is a gorgeous one. Located in the rolling countryside, within easy reach of some of the area's historic towns, it's a great place to begin your Italian adventures.

When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

A local team of architects and designers have painstaking brought this traditional Trulli-style home back to life. Set less than one hundred metres from Ceglie Messapica's bustling pedestrianised hub and just an easy drive from the coast and Ostuni, the location of this apartment is spot-on. While the period home's vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework are impressive, there are a few compromises to make. Expect a small kitchenette that's better suited to lighter bites rather than large slap-up meals, and there's no outdoor space to speak of. But for a bolthole this characterful, we can forgive that.

Surrounded by stunning Apulian countryside, yet just twenty minutes by car from the centre of Monopoli – this quintessential Mediterranean villa offers guests a private slice of serenity from the moment they open the front gate. Upon entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the soothing earthy tones of the home's original features, including tiled stone floors throughout and whitewashed exposed brickwork in the living area. We especially love the luxurious bathrooms, with their natural stone and large walk in showers, creating a spa-like experience. Take a quick drive down to the heart of Polignano a Mare to explore the clifftop town's historic streets and charming restaurants. Cala Porto Beach is a great spot to sit and read, while the town's piazza is the best place to do some people-watching with a cool drink. And, if you fancy exploring further afield, the wonderful Puglian countryside is right on your doorstep.

Secluded away in the rugged beauty of the Puglian countryside, 15km south of the iconic trulli-covered town of Ostuni, this cone-shaped home is an absolute dream for anyone looking to experience a traditional southern Italian stay.

Stunning inside and out, this trullo is characterised by exposed stone walls, elegant archways and soaring ceilings. Some modern additions ensure its practicality as a gorgeous getaway perfect for multi-generational families or groups of friends, with spacious bedrooms and sleek en-suites ensuring plenty of privacy.

The outdoor space is a haven, with an inviting pool shrouded by olive trees and lush gardens, so you're free to top up your tan or seek solace in the shade of a nearby tree. In addition, there are a couple of fantastic outdoor dining areas and a wood-fired barbecue, where we'd be tempted to cook all our meals.

Set on a hectare of land and surrounded by fields, the trullo offers a tranquil space to unwind far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. If you can rouse yourself from your relaxation, the quaint streets and piazzas of Ceglie Messapica are approximately fifteen minutes away. The best thing about this enchanting town? Its enviable array of restaurants that serve up mouthwatering Puglian specialities. 

Alternatively, drive 30km or so in the opposite direction, and you'll arrive on Puglia's awe-inspiring Adriatic coast. Its shimmering azure waters and white sand beaches are more than a match for the Maldives.

Though the apartment lacks a living area, it's a good option for those keen to spend all their time exploring. Some rooms lack natural light, but there's a private patio where you can enjoy a glass of local wine. All three bedrooms are comfortable, and two have desks for remote workers – just note that the single is accessed through bedroom two.

Puglia is known for its characteristic architecture, unique cuisine, and long-stretching coastline – the nearby towns of Gallipoli, Castro, Nardò, Otranto, and Lecce give you an insight into all three, and more.

When you’re not exploring, let the hours blissfully roll by while you swap between the sun lounger and the shady day bed. Get lost in your current read, taking in the view of fields backed by the sea, and enjoy long swims in the pool, the scent of aromatic plants hanging in the air. If you follow the scent, you’ll find sprawling Mediterranean gardens of succulents and olive trees. Better yet, follow the sea view, and spend afternoons on a fine sandy beach.

This stone house is a charming base for six in Monopoli. It’s close to the seafront, and boasts wonderful views of the sea and the historic city centre from the terrace. We love the alfresco dining area in the shade of the pergola, too – you’ll likely spend most of your time here outside. Inside, there are lots of stairs to navigate so it’s not a suitable choice for those with children under six. There are cosy corners for moments of relaxation, and quirky details that add charm.

A ten-minute drive from Ostuni, this villa offers a dreamy escape in Puglia. The garden was designed to take advantage of the sunshine. You can work out in the outdoor gym, cool off with a dip in the pool, or tuck into an Italian feast on the terrace. Inside, the ivory hues and natural accents fit in perfectly with Puglia's white-washed towns. Our favourite space is the main bedroom, where a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi bath is the perfect way to end the day. Just note that two bedrooms don't have air conditioning.

Tucked between the countryside and the stunning Puglian coast, this home offers the best of both worlds. Set off by car and explore the UNESCO-listed Valle d'Itria, or dive East towards Monopoli and Polignano a Mare for a day by the sea. During downtime, make yourself comfortable back home. Keen cooks will have three kitchens at their disposal here, including one outdoors ideal for barbecues. The swimming pool (which can be heated for a fee) will entice you for an afternoon dip, while the covered terrace makes a sweet spot for sundowners. With four en-suite bedrooms, including a sprawling main suite on the top floor, we think it's the perfect family pad.

Whether you're sipping a cappuccino in the morning or a glass of cava in the evening, the terrace hums with a gentle tranquility. You can even see the calming waves of the Mediterranean Sea lap in the distance. 

Inside the home, the design is homespun and simple, tinged with a chic decor. A snug kitchen and living room leads to the dreamy four-poster bed, a cosy spot to rest any weary legs. 

A desk rests in the corner of the bedroom for remote workers, though you can always bring your laptop to the terrace for sun-soaked creative sessions.

Speaking of sun-soaked, Gallipoli is home to a gorgeous beach and pretty harbour. The beach is lined with colourful umbrellas, creating a fluorescent wave of exuberance when you walk onto the golden sands.

Set in the quiet countryside of the Itria Valley, this home is on private farmland – expect to see horses and cows as you stroll through the gardens. Martina Franca is fifteen minutes away, and you’ll be close to the picturesque village of San Paolo, where you can shop for local ingredients for alfresco meals.
