There's space to park for free on the street, but the city centre is so close that you won't necessarily need a car to get the most out of your stay here. You'll have easy access to Matera's fantastic restaurants and truly unique architecture, with buildings built into the natural caves of the Murgia.

Set less than one hundred metres from Ceglie Messapica's bustling pedestrianised hub and just an easy drive from the coast and Ostuni, the location of this apartment is spot-on. While the period home's vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework are impressive, there are a few compromises to make. Expect a small kitchenette that's better suited to lighter bites rather than large slap-up meals, and there's no outdoor space to speak of. But for a bolthole this characterful, we can forgive that.

Housed in a residential building, this sleek room offers a convenient hotel alternative for solo travellers or couples, equipped with everything needed for a fuss-free stay. Location-wise, you're in the heart of Sorrento, just a short walk from the beach. You'll also be within easy reach of the port, with restaurants and bars on your doorstep – handy, as this pad doesn't come with a kitchen. The interiors are a little basic for our liking, but it's modern and there's a dedicated workspace. Plus, the freestanding tub is the perfect place to relax after busy days spent travelling.

Surrounded by stunning Apulian countryside, yet just twenty minutes by car from the centre of Monopoli – this quintessential Mediterranean villa offers guests a private slice of serenity from the moment they open the front gate. Upon entering the home, you'll be welcomed by the soothing earthy tones of the home's original features, including tiled stone floors throughout and whitewashed exposed brickwork in the living area. Antique dark wooden furniture and terracotta ornaments complement the character and complete the home's Mediterranean aesthetic with infinite elegance. This Italian villa grabbed our attention for its front-row location on the Amalfi coast. You can enjoy spectacular sea views from the garden, balconies, and terraces, and you also have direct access to a private beach. Your host can provide breakfast to begin the day at a leisurely pace, and if you’re travelling with children, babysitter recommendations are available. There are lots of stairs to climb here, including a spiral staircase in the home, steep steps in the terraced garden, and steps to the private beach, so it won’t suit everyone. Location-wise, you’re in the pretty village of Conca dei Marini with many picturesque coastal towns, including popular Amalfi, within easy driving distance.

In the sun-soaked village of Positano, this studio apartment is a peaceful idyll within walking distance of the lively shores of Positano Beach. Inside, it’s all crisp white and cobalt blue. If you can tear yourself away from this home, meander through the quaint streets of the local towns or just a stone's throw further, you will be met with the picturesque coastline. It's not a trip to Puglia without a stay in a trullo house, and this is a gorgeous one. Located in the rolling countryside, within easy reach of some of the area's historic towns, it's a great place to begin your Italian adventures. 

The traditional stone building has plenty of original touches – you'll love the conical roofs and decorative fireplace that provides a rustic charm. When you get hungry, you can head to the kitchen and cook up your favourite pasta dishes using fresh local ingredients. And, there's no better place to serve up your culinary creations than outside on the patio, as you breathe in the fresh air and admire the lush greenery surrounding you. 

When you fancy a day trip, there are plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. The magnificent white city of Ostuni is around twenty minutes away by car, where you can stroll through the labyrinthine old quarter. The hilltop town of Martina Franca is around twenty-five minutes away, and if you fancy a day at the beach then you can drive to the coast in just over half an hour.

With impressive views across Napoli bay, this apartment makes it easy to experience the charm of Sorrento. You can sit back and relax on the private terrace and there’s plenty of space inside to socialise and stretch out. It’s worth noting some of the furnishings are a little dated, but it’s a great option for families and groups in search of simplicity and ease in a fantastic location. Outside, you can stroll to restaurants, cafes and shops. It’s also a great base for exploring nearby Pompeii and the Amalfi coast.

If you’re seeking a picturesque home in central Monopoli, this second-floor apartment is just the ticket. There’s no parking here, but this city on the Adriatic Sea is easily explored on foot. Speaking of, you’ll find the Baroque Monopoli Cathedral, the 16th-century Castle of Carlo V, and the frescoed Palmieri Palace within walking distance. Located within a period building, you’ll find plenty of original features here. Though you’ll need to climb the stairs up, you'll love spending evenings on the rooftop terrace relaxing with wine and grilling up dinners.

When you think of Positano, you imagine the incredible views. You may have seen the Instagram posts about everyone trying to find the perfect view for sunset. Well, they're wasting their time – the best view in the city comes from the gorgeous terrace of your villa. But unlike the other popular spots, this view is reserved solely for you. 

Whether you're enjoying your morning coffee on the dining table or lounging on the sun beds, you're perfectly placed to admire the colourful houses and blue stretch of the sea. Of course, the best views are when the orange hues of sunset blend into the deep blue shades of the water.

After a leisurely morning, head off to explore the town. A less beaten path than its neighbouring town of Positano, this is the place to be if you're looking for authentic Italian appeal. If you're seeking out some of the Amalfi Coast's best nature spots, make sure you add a hike on the 'Path of the Gods' to your itinerary, considered by many to be the best hiking trail in the area thanks to sweeping mountain views of the Mediterranean.

After a day of exploring, head home to relax in the outdoor hot tub, before indulging in a laid-back dinner cooked on the barbecue.

Although a drive to the coast takes less than twenty-minutes, you’ll probably be so lost in the comforts of this home that you end up spending most of your time here. Mealtimes in the dining area and outside by the trees always feel like such a treat – rustle up a meal and sit down to breakfast as you share in the holiday joy with friends and family. When the sun starts to set, fire up the grill and tuck into a candlelit dinner. A night swim and a moment under the stars with a glass of Barolo will send you off to bed with the sweetest dreams.

This stone house is a charming base for six in Monopoli. It’s close to the seafront, and boasts wonderful views of the sea and the historic city centre from the terrace. We love the alfresco dining area in the shade of the pergola, too – you’ll likely spend most of your time here outside. Inside, there are lots of stairs to navigate so it’s not a suitable choice for those with children under six. There are cosy corners for moments of relaxation, and quirky details that add charm.

It’s just a three-minute drive from the centre of Ceglie Messapica but feels like the middle of nowhere – it’s surrounded by acres of centuries-old olive groves and fruit trees, and you can even pick your own fruit. You'll definitely need a car to make the most of your stay though. The outside space is dreamy, with an outdoor kitchen and salt-water infinity pool, but the villa is unique. It’s housed in a restored Trullo, so you can live like a local and soak up the region's history.

Located just 5km away from the centre of Polignano a Mare, this villa is a little world of its own. It's perfect for groups of friends and family who want to catch up, dine like kings and enjoy the balmy Italian climate in style. 

The neutral colour palette inside creates a sense of calm – come in, drop your bags, and make yourself comfortable. We especially love the luxurious bathrooms, with their natural stone and large walk in showers, creating a spa-like experience. Enjoy a serene stay at this small but perfectly formed home, located in the heart of Positano, close to many fabulous restaurants and bars that make this coastal village so sought-after with travellers. This home’s crown jewel is in its marvellous large terrace, providing a stunning view out across the ocean, as well as plenty of places to relax in the sun and the shade – the swinging egg chair makes for a great place to sit with a good book, while the covered lounge area is fantastic for having a drink together and watching the sunset. There’s also sun loungers so you can work on your tan.

Inside, you’ll find a gorgeous blue and white colour scheme throughout to remind you of the sea, as well as little decor touches that make it feel like home. We love the country kitchen style dining table, ideal for feasting on tasty salads and pasta dishes – and the sofa and TV provide a nice place to chill out when you need a break from the sunshine.

Ready to venture out? You’ll find plenty to do right on your doorstep – you can enjoy wandering along idyllic winding paths and discovering quaint cafes and vibrant drinking spots – plus the metro station is just a stone’s throw away so you can travel beyond with ease if you choose to.

Now, this is what we call a view. Perched above the Gulf of Salerno, this villa offers breathtaking scenery everywhere you look. Our favourite spot is the terrace, where a glass of wine complements the panoramas perfectly. There's also a private Jacuzzi that makes soaking under the stars a real treat. The interior design is simple but chic, though the main bedroom doesn't feel particularly private. And, while the kitchen is on the smaller side, you'll only be a five-minute walk from the eateries in Amalfi. That's pretty hard to beat.

When the Stars Align

Whitewashed walls, stone ceilings, and a sun soaked terrace – this place has got Ostuni written all over it. You’ll find it to the north of the city centre, tucked down a quiet street but still within easy reach of a whole host of bars and restaurants for eating out. The terrace is the star of the show, boasting sweeping views of the Puglian coast, but the apartment as a whole feels warm and homely, making it exactly the kind of place you’ll want to chill out in after a busy day of sightseeing.

For those that want to get in touch with nature, this rebuilt farmer’s shack in the Puglian countryside is the perfect getaway.  Though you’re still just a five-minute drive from the supermarkets, restaurants and winding old streets of San Michele Salentino, and the UNESCO trulli houses of Ostuni are a twenty-minute drive (perfect for a day trip).

It’s all about escaping the everyday and embracing the landscape here. Surrounded by acres of olive groves and fruit orchards, you’ve got a natural larder to play with – perfect for cooking alfresco in the outdoor kitchen. The entire living space is designed to be outdoors, with the lounge sofas sets around a fire pit and the full kitchen shaded by bamboo and looking out into the olive grove. There’s a swimming pool for cooling off, a hammock strung beneath a century-old olive tree and an outdoor shower tucked away too.

The only thing you’ll find inside is the bedroom and bathroom. It’s a world of sleek concrete in here, with a desk should you fancy a spot of writing (there’s no Wifi, it’s time to take it easy). There’s a small sofa should the weather take a turn, and it’s set by the picture-frame window so you can still enjoy a glimpse of the rust-red land. But this place is designed for living outdoors, under the warmth of the southern Italian sun.

A local team of architects and designers have painstaking brought this traditional Trulli-style home back to life. From the fairytale cone roofs of the old section to the thick white walls of local stone and lime. Now, it’s a relaxing retreat for a small group with a glorious infinity pool at its core. Lined with loungers, this is the perfect place to cool off from the hot southern sun. There’s dining for the whole group out here too, in the full outdoor kitchen. You can admire the silhouettes of ancient olive trees as the sun sets over the countryside.    

Inside, every original detail and modern flourish feels like it has been carefully considered, from hand-picked crockery to candle-filled stone fireplaces. The kitchen is all sleek modernity, and the bedrooms are decked out in boho style with crisp white walls and straw-coloured accents.
