With over 10,000 sqft of gardens, there's plenty of space for an inviting pool and two covered seating areas, as well as verdant lawns for the kids to play on. The awe-inspiring views over the surrounding landscape are just the icing on the cake. 

If you can tear your eyes away, we'd suggest exploring the charming hilltop villages. You never know when you'll stumble across the best wine or olive oil you've ever tasted. Elsewhere, the historic cities of Cesena and Rimini are approximately twenty kilometres away.

It may be less than a thirty-minute drive from the spectacular Renaissance city of Florence, but this home feels like another world. Located up in the hills, you'll discover a spectacular villa – complete with a clock tower – just outside the small village of Cellai, where time seems to stand still.

This incredible eighteenth-century villa in the heart of Tuscany is a wonderful setting for a wedding or just a gathering of your nearest and dearest. The gravelled terrace overlooking the undulating countryside can be set up for special events, and there’s a built-in barbecue for a more casual alfresco feast. Step inside to find wooden beams, traditional shuttered windows, arched alcoves and soaring high ceilings, all of which were designed by the architect Massimiliano Soldani, who created the residence as his private home. You’ll also find a lovely alfresco dining spot, though it’s a mere one-minute walk to the nearest restaurant, so eating out is sure to be on the menu. And when you’re keen to venture further afield, a trip to Siena is a must.

This centuries-old home is beguiling with its mellow stone walls and hidden water well. There’s an internal lift too, making this home ideal for those with limited mobility. We love the grapevine-draped patio, as well as the private pool and garden full of plants and fruit and olive trees. Talking of olives – there’s an annual Olive Oil Festival around November to enjoy, but any time of year you can explore this pretty village surrounded by vineyards. Pergine Valdarno has a grocery, bakery, butchers shop, and restaurant, while further afield discover the castles and churches this romantic area is famed for.

Fresh Ink

Lounge by the lavender-edged 18-metre lap pool with its beautiful views of the forested hills and distant hilltop village of Castagnoli. You can’t see the pool from the house, as it's 70 metres down a track, past the owner's villa – but once there, it’s a sight to behold. Or relax on your terrace or balcony in the private garden. It’s the perfect spot for an Italian feast cooked on the barbecue or rustle up something in the kitchen on the first floor with its marble worktops. If you need to top up on ingredients, then Gaiole, 4 kilometres away, has a selection of shops, as well as restaurants, while the nearest village, Barbischio, 1 kilometre away, has a superb trattoria.
