This stylish apartment is right around the corner from Termini, Rome's biggest train station, so there's no doubt that the transport links are excellent. But many of the must-see sights can also be reached on foot, including the magnificent Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore five minutes away and The Colosseum just a little further, about a twenty-minute stroll. After fueling up on pasta and gelato at Mercato Centrale Roma across the street, set off for the Trevi Fountain, The Pantheon and The Spanish Steps, all reachable in under half an hour. When you're not off exploring, shopping or sipping Italian wine at one of the bars in this area, rest your tired feet back at home. We love the bold green colours and funky design – picture cowhide rugs, vibrant pop art and leafy wallpaper in the bedroom. The bathroom is also one of our favourites – it has a huge walk-in rain shower that's the perfect way to relax after a busy day. And this pad has more than enough room for two, so there's plenty of space to make yourself at home. In the evenings, pour yourself an aperitif and rustle up a feast in the contemporary kitchen, then end the night with Netflix in bed, nodding off while to the sound of your favourite shows.

We think this city pad is a great choice for anyone wanting a quieter base with easy access to Rome’s must-see sights.

Simply put, Paparazzi is stylish, well-kept and right in the middle of Rome. Domenico is incredibly attentive as a host, and always ready to help, and while there are a few issues that we found, the majority were unavoidable given the age and positioning of the building (fairly slow wi-fi, for example), and the positives far outweigh the negatives. The apartment has been redone recently and you can really tell, particularly in the bathrooms, which feel very modern and sleek.


Paparazzi

This apartment is truly in the heart of Rome. A five-minute walk from Piazza Navona and moments away from Campo de' Fiori, this is the place to be if sightseeing is at the top of your to-do list. You'll find plenty to see and do within walking distance, be it shops and eateries or must-visit landmarks. The apartment is on the second floor and lacks a lift, so you'll have to be comfortable climbing stairs. That said, we think it's a great find. A roomy living area provides ample space to relax, dine together, and even work from home. Just note that the second bedroom is a little snug, making it more suitable for one guest.

Soak up the best of Rome from this relaxed Prati apartment, just a short stroll from the Vatican Museums and buzzing local food spots. The interiors are simple and fuss-free, but there's everything you need for a comfortable stay. The second bedroom has two single beds top and tailing, so you'll need to be happy sharing. But the real magic? The private terrace. Bursting with character, it’s the heart of the home. Think sunny breakfasts, long lunches, and evening aperitivos surrounded by potted plants. Centrally located in the eternal city of Rome, this home is a mere stone's throw from several iconic landmarks, including the Ponte Sisto, where you can overlook the Tiber. And some of those sights you might even spot from the balcony, though when it comes to the outdoor seating, we prefer the patio table in the shade of the pergola. As for the home, the rustic charm of the rafters and furnishings is sweet and well-kept. It's worth noting that despite being spacious, this home's sleeping arrangements feature a double sofa bed and another room with two single sofa beds that might be more suitable for children. With two other double beds available, however, it's the ideal pad for a family getaway.

Situated in Rome’s Campo de' Fiori, this apartment is ideal for those who want a base with all the necessary comforts but aren't too concerned about frills. That said, the private terrace is pretty wow, with a lounge area, dining area and sweeping city views. We like the traditional features, but you might find the kitchen and bathrooms a little dated. What sold us on this pad was the terrace, the enclosed patio, and the central location – from here, you’re a short walk from the Pantheon and the Roman Forum, while you’ll find plenty of trattorias, neighbourhood bars and little cafes just off your doorstep.

Waking up to views of Rome’s monumental Colosseum through your window is a moment you’ll never tire of at this immaculate apartment, perched right in the heart of the Old Town.

Housed in a handsome palazzo befitting of any gladiator, from the outside, this place is straight out of ancient Roman times. But inside, this apartment is as cool and contemporary as it gets – with slick monochrome finishes and luxurious detailing that Italians do so well.

And a visit to Janiculum Hill, known locally as Gianicolo, is a must – the views across Rome are not to be missed.

Heavy packers, be warned – there are quite a few stairs to tackle here.

This apartment is very nearly a dream come true – it's located just across the road from Saint Peter's Dome and within strolling distance of most of Rome’s top sights. Inside, it’s bright, homey and practical, with enough space to settle in for a cosy evening after a busy day out and about. We especially like the balcony off one of the bedrooms – perfect for a morning espresso.

This apartment in Monti is just a short stroll from the iconic Colosseum. Other attractions within walking distance include the Roman Forum, Trevi Fountain and the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major, to name just a few. A lot of care and attention has gone into this home, and we love the blend of character features and modern furnishings. The good-sized open-plan living space is a great place to relax (this room also sleeps guests five and six on a sofa bed). Whether you’re a family or friends, your host is always on hand to ensure you have a fantastic stay.

With heaps of Italian soul and rustic charm, this quiet, well-kept and beautifully appointed apartment offers everything needed for that dolce vita. For the location, you're surrounded by local authenticity and just a seven-minute walk to the emblematic Colosseum. Find an assortment of eateries, wine bars and classy cafés to enjoy an alfresco lunch in the sun, before working off any over-indulgences with a gentle fourteen-minute stroll to Trevi Fountain – pennies at the ready. We also have to mention the apartment being on the cusp of Monti and Campitelli – both are full of beautiful piazzas, windy backstreets and family-run trattorias. Back home, we think there's somewhat of a contemporary Scandi feel, with plain bedspreads, pared-back furnishings and white shelved walls. Modern and minimalist, you'll also notice the elegant marble floors, quirky wallpaper prints and low-hanging light bulbs that we really loved.

When we say that this home is a stone’s throw from the Trevi Fountain, we really mean it. Or should we say a coin’s throw? Watch where you’re aiming that penny, because this apartment is just steps away from Rome’s most striking water feature. In a quiet lane away from clamouring tourists, this spot has world-famous attractions, but with a local vibe. Stepping in to look around the decor, you notice a delightful mixture of old and new. Keep an eye out for chunky wooden beams, parquet floors, and original masonry as you settle down on antique furniture. Then there’s a somewhat contemporary Scandi look, with minimalist bedspreads, stepped bed frames, and modern, white shelved walls. These shelves are packed with literature and art books. Take your pick from the collection and perch in the study – with its twisted gold column, hardwood furnishings, and vintage typewriter, you’ll feel every bit the European intellectual. A stroll in the immediate neighbourhood will take you to jewellery boutiques and hidden wine bars for a glass of barolo. Descend the famous Spanish Steps to the Piazza di Spagna, just over five minutes from your home – from here, you can explore all the sights of the city by metro.

Before we even arrived at Soft Shading, we were struck by the location. It’s so close to the Trevi fountain that the only danger is you’ll end up stuck among all the tourists. It’s very new inside, and the modern fittings contrast nicely with some of the original structural features, like the ceilings. The only drawback is the slightly inadequate living room, upstairs, and without space for a full house, but as it’s right in the middle of the city, you won’t be spending much time in.

You’ll find this charming apartment on the narrow, atmospheric Via dei Coronari (officially one of the world’s ten most beautiful streets), right in Rome’s historic centre. It’s just a two-minute stroll to buzzing Piazza Navona where cafés and restaurants spill out onto to pavement and ancient fountains still trickle away. Just across the River Tiber, a fifteen-minute walk takes you to the endless museums and Sistine Chapel at The Vatican. Housed in a building dating back to the 1500s, this apartment still radiates old-world charm which can immediately be felt by the 19th-century aedicule at the entrance. The wooden coffered ceiling and herringbone floor harks back to a bygone age and gilded mirrors and antique furnishings complete the feeling that you’ve stepped into an opulent home in the 19th century. Though it may seem like you’re staying in a museum, the practicalities have been thought of as well, with a full kitchen for your morning espresso, and comfy sofas around the flatscreen TV in the lounge.

And the location of this fabulous apartment is no exception. Just six minutes from the Spanish Steps, five from Villa Borghese, and only two from the Piazza del Popolo, you’ll have no trouble seeing the sights. But the traditional Italian sights continue inside. Your bright living space features large French windows which illuminate rich, hardwood floors, chunky timber ceilings, and some captivating artworks. You’ll love relaxing on the plush sofa with a glass of primitivo in hand as the cherubs look upon you from the walls. Antique-style furniture and an ornate mirror complete this old-world Italian look, which continues through to the bedroom. We love the full wood-panelled wall, where the door to the ensuite is almost camouflaged within this rich wooden feature. After you’ve explored every inch of the apartment, your host has even more surprises. They can arrange for a tour around the city on a classic Vespa, or a wine tasting tour if you’re not quite ready to handle Rome’s traffic.

You'll be able to stroll along the River Tiber, take a trip to the Basilica Di Santa Maria (a two-minute walk away), and come back to relax in this welcoming apartment all in an afternoon's escapades. With sleek bathrooms and two truly comfortable bedrooms as well as extra space on the sofa bed, this humble abode would suit a group of friends in Rome for a few days perfectly. While there may be lots of sights to tick off around the city, the home invites guests to unwind in pure comfort as the warm, earthy tones and rustic charm throughout, makes for a laid-back ambience worth writing home about. We particularly love dark wooden doors and beams that run across the ceilings – as well as the beautiful stone sink in the master bathroom. This lovely home also makes for a great base for exploring the rest of the city – you’re right in the thick of things, so you can easily visit all of Rome’s hotspots on foot. Trastevere and its fabulous nightlife are just a few minutes' walk, as are Piazza Venezia and Piazza Navona.

The apartment itself is a stunningly good find. It’s spacious and bright, decorated in classic Italian style using only the finest furniture. There’s something to admire in every corner, whether it’s the pull-down cocktail bar in the living room, or the antique wooden beams. When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is a haven. Relax with a good book and a glass of wine before dinner – but will you dine in or head out?

As soon as you step into the marble-floored hall you get a feeling of old-world Italy. The hall is dotted with antiques and moving through to the living and dining room it’s all floor to ceiling bookcases and herringbone floor. We particularly love the main bathroom, sleek in monotone black and white, yet embracing the vintage with its Singer sewing machine washstand and glorious oval tub.

Parchment Scrolls oozes classical Roman style. There’s a wonderful mix of antique elements, like the ceiling beams or the painted doors, and more modern fittings that give it a sense of balance. It’s also in a fantastic position, in the cobblestone lanes of Ponte, and right opposite the grand Church of San Biagio. All of these blessings manage to outweigh the only real problem, which is the second bathroom. It doesn’t have the best ventilation, and the shower is only 190cm high, but we think that it’s forgivable given the rest of the space.

Instead of the very heart of Trastevere, Sky Queen is a little bit to the north. This is actually a fantastic location – you can avoid the hordes of revellers, and the Vatican is easy to reach, while the river is just at the end of the road.  A quieter option in a lovely location, this home is perfect if you're looking for an authentic stay – with all the big attractions within a half-hour walk.  

The double-height ceiling and the large windows make this place bright and breezy, which is surprisingly rare for this neighbourhood as the narrow streets and old buildings often conspire to keep sunlight away. There's a sense of history, with beamed ceilings, and a modern twist thanks to the mezzanine bedroom floor and the floating stairs.
