The property is conveniently located near several towns and cities such as Città S.Angelo and Pescara, which are only 10 km and 15 km away respectively. The sea is just a short distance of 10 km while skiing areas are approximately 40 km away. Please note that the owner lives in the same residence, has a dog, and does not accept any youth groups.

Floor-to-ceiling black-framed windows and a sensitive renovation have turned this 16th-century Umbrian dovecote tower into one of the region's smartest stays. Behind the stone tower, the jagged cliffs and town of Orvieto loom, while in front, the rolling hills stretch before you. Interiors meld old with new. Flagstone floors and antique furniture sit alongside steel ceiling pipes and geometric prints. As one would expect in a tower, there are several spiralling staircases – as well as gawp-worthy views. Push open the sliding doors in the grey, country-style kitchen and step out onto the terrace. A built-in barbecue and wrought-iron table overlook the Italian countryside, while a large vegetable garden and fruit trees provide the freshest ingredients. Continue down to find 1.5 hectares of garden with Etruscan origin and the swimming pool, which was once an agricultural fountain. Forget about any form of work, now all you have to worry about is which spot to pick around the water, with the rush of the nearby brook providing background music.

This rustic Italian retreat looks out over a peaceful Umbrian valley, yet it’s only a short walk into the historic centre of Amelia for the local cheese shop, bars, bakeries and grocery shops. Tucked down a quiet cobbled street, you’re just steps from the Duomo, the piazza, and the town’s shops and trattorias – with rolling vineyards nearby for sampling the region’s famous Orvieto Classico. There’s no air conditioning, but the traditional stone walls and climate control system help keep things cool in summer and cosy in winter. An ideal base for your Umbrian escape.

It’s all about peace and seclusion at this Umbrian villa. On all sides, you’ve got a patchwork of rolling fields and acres of olive groves. Should you wish to discover a bit of Umbria on a day trip, the beautiful city of Orvieto is a short drive away – a shamble of ancient, ochre buildings sitting on a hilltop. However, days here can easily be spent without leaving the grounds.

The saline swimming pool is an inviting shade of turquoise, sitting against the Umbrian hills and surrounded by greenery. Beneath ancient olive and oak trees, you’ll find wooden tables for rustic lunches outdoors – perhaps cooked in the little stone building that’s been converted into a barbecue shed with a wood-fired oven. 

Beyond this villa's stone and wood-shuttered facade, you’ll find an ode to Umbrian tradition. An arched fireplace in the main living room harks back to days gone by while the worn terracotta bricks underfoot keep things cool. Wrought iron candelabra and wooden ceilings give a medieval feel to the huge sitting room in the annexe and there’s a small, book-lined living room for a quiet moment alone. Double wooden doors open up from the kitchen to the patio, so the shuttling of salads and sauces to the barbecue area is a breeze. In the bedrooms, dark wood and wrought-iron furniture keep the traditional feel going.

You're not just looking at one home here, but rather a grand total of six properties hidden away among green hills in the Umbrian countryside. With this huge guest count, it's a superb address for weddings, events or even just holidays with all the extended family.

Somewhat unsurprisingly given the rural location, the living quarters lie on the rustic side of things and are heavy on natural materials, be that wooden beams or stone walls. We can't think of a cosier way of ending the day than by taking up residence next to the traditional fireplace, either.

Beyond the edge of the grounds, you'll find unspoilt countryside in Monte Peglia park and Meana forest – the latter of which was recently classified as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Lake Trasimeno is an hour's drive north if you fancy trying your hand at watersports, as well.

It’s a short drive to Terni to explore ancient ruins and local cuisine in family-run restaurants and a traditional medieval hilltop town awaits at Todi nearby.

The first thing that catches the eye is the inviting, Roman-style swimming pool that looks out over the fauna-filled valley and patchwork fields to hazy hills in the distance. A loggia-style dining area houses a table for the group and a barbecue grill, all with that stunning view before you. Steal away to the olive grove and curl up in a hammock with a holiday read.

Inside, antique and vintage pieces throughout add to the old farmhouse feel of the home, alongside wooden ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. A huge double-sided fireplace sits between the dining and living room for cosy evenings in. The view from the arched window in here is simply sublime – framed like a picture on the exposed stone wall. Up on a mezzanine level, you’ll find a secluded little reading nook to hide away in.

Dating back to the early 1900s, you can see the turn-of-the-century architecture in the stone steps between terraces and wooden-shuttered windows. It’s a veritable playground for those that seek relaxation in the terraced gardens, where succulents fill the perfectly positioned flower beds. Spend days floating in the sleek, modern swimming pool with its integrated Jacuzzi. Lunch can be taken at the round table on the lower terrace, while dinner can be set up on the upper terrace at the more formal spot. Location-wise, you’re in the coastal town of Circeo where a long stretch of beach is just a short walk away. In the other direction, the ancient, walled centre of town awaits with a handful of local trattoria in the shambling streets.

Lazio might not get the plaudits of Tuscany or Umbria, but it's still a beautiful region of Italy – just look at the hilltop views from this home's excellent outdoor space, which offers both a dining terrace and swimming pool to keep visitors happy during the warmer months. The home itself used to be a stable and while there's none of the period charm you often find with restored buildings, we think that it's a solid – if slightly unremarkable – place to rest your head for a week or two.

This home is secluded, in beautiful lush countryside and surrounded by olive, persimmon and pomegranate trees.
