Off the beaten track, a ten-minute drive from the coast at San Lorenzo al Mare and half an hour from Imperia, it's set in a picture-perfect rural hamlet on a hillside. Surrounded by rolling hills and ancient olive groves, this place hasn't changed for centuries. In a building that dates from the 18th century, it actually comprises two apartments – a one-bedroom and a two-bedroom, set across four floors. Steep, narrow stairs lead up to the cool, whitewashed attic rooms or down to the converted cellars – bursting with character and authentic charm. The two flats have their own living spaces, and one boasts a small balcony while the other has a dining spot on a rooftop terrace. With hundreds of years of history in its walls, we love the rustic look of its vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and bare stone walls. But that's not to say this place is all about the past. You just need to look in the modern, stainless steel kitchens and admire the mix of antiques and contemporary furniture to see this home has all the comforts of modern-day living. Head to the nearby natural pools of Laghetti di Pietrabruna for a wild swim, buy local farm produce or drive to the beach – the choice is yours.

The interior feels cooling thanks to the tiling underfoot and the large doorways that let a breeze circulate inside when opened. There's also plenty of shade to be found even when the sun's at its highest — a covered terrace will play host to many a languorous lunch, while the flourishing garden offers plenty of secluded spots for an afternoon nap. That being said, there are enough perks inside the four walls if you're coming during the autumn and winter. An upright piano in the living room will keep musical guests occupied, while the hydro-massage bath requires no such talent to enjoy — just sit back and let the bubbles do their work. The local town and its pretty churches take fifteen minutes to reach on foot, while the seaside town of Albenga can be reached in the same amount of time in the car.

Well, those views over La Croissete and the stunning French Riviera speak for themselves, don't they? The spacious terrace is great for soaking up the sun, but it only has two loungers, so you may have to negotiate who gets them if you're a group of four. We love that the main bedroom opens onto the patio – perfect for a morning coffee. Inside, the decor is quite traditional, so it may not suit modernistas – having said that, it's been nicely done. We haven't talked about the location yet – it's excellent. La Croisette Beach and Promenade are just a short stroll away. Or discover all of the chic boutiques and restaurants in the heart of Cannes nearby.

A ten minute walk away from the Cannes Marina jetty, this little home is set on a brightly coloured street and is as welcoming inside as it looks from the outside. Minimalist, definitely, but the crisp colour palette further allows the brightly coloured ‘Cannes’ artwork found around the home, to really pop. The large windows aren't just there to let the light stream in – although they certainly do it well – but to also allow you to throw them all open for that French Riviera goodness to funnel in. With the breeze for company, you might get the coffee brewing whilst others go out and find freshly baked pastries for breakfast, but if you’re thinking about dining out instead, L’Alba is a must. The restaurant is a six-minute walk away and sits right on the waterfront. After eating you might even be tempted to stroll the beach. 

Bars and restaurants are dotted all around this home actually, so you’ll never run out of options, but there’s also a shop – or the Forville market – to buy fresh produce if you’d rather try your hand at traditional French cuisine from the well-equipped kitchen back home. Whilst you’re out, swing by the marina and walk around twelve minutes to visit the Croisette casino. This is where you’ll also come across a seaside boulevard home to a film festival site. Explore the many beaches along the coastline, and if you’re up for a day trip, hop on the train and see more of the French Riviera.

Nestled on a mountainside above the historic town of Vence, this home offers a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views of the Côte d'Azur. This contemporary apartment is all about the location for us. There’s secure parking here, but if you don’t fancy driving on holiday, a car isn’t necessary. Many local hotspots are within walking distance and Antibes train station is a mere five-minute stroll away for adventures further afield in the Côte d'Azur. Walk to Old Antibes, the Picasso Museum or Gravette beach – there’s something for everyone here. And when dinner is calling, head to Juan-les-Pins. A stroll down the seafront promenade, lined with French eateries, awaits.

What a great location this apartment has in the old town of Cannes. It’s a five-minute stroll from the Palais des Festivals, the Croisette and the designer boutiques on Rue d'Antibes. This home feels so much like a five-star boutique hotel, you’ll find it hard to believe you’ve got it to yourselves. Located on the Cap d’Antibes, the celeb-magnet peninsula on the Côte d'Azur between Cannes and Nice, it's a dramatic two-storey villa, topped with a 70m2 roof terrace and flanked by dozens of cypress trees. At first glance there’s a real architectural wow moment, but here clean lines don’t mean an austere or angular welcome. Step inside and there’s a real feeling of warmth and liveability, thanks to softening touches – sprawling sofas, warm wall tones, bold canvases and opulent beds. Everything has been done throughout to make the landscape a highlight, as it richly deserves. The floor-to-ceiling windows and retractable glass living room wall let in the soft Mediterranean light. The surrounding gardens are a structured mass of palms, vines, lawns, even a trickling waterfall. There are the incredible views from the terrace of the sea and Alps beyond. We've not even touched on the huge heated pool, which deserves special mention, as does the sauna, the wine cellar… we could go on. In short: this place is truly amazing.

Formerly an olive farm, this villa was converted into an aristocrat’s home the 18th century, and has recently been restored to all its former grandeur, with some added modern comforts. It’s totally charming: the butter yellow exteriors are complimented by forest green shutters, and on one side there’s a tower rising three floors high. The interiors are typified by their old world charm: high ceilings, antique french tiled floors, duck egg blue curtains and oil paintings make the living space a cosy place to relax. The modern, fully renovated kitchen has two sliding glass doors leading to an al fresco table, which is the perfect spot to enjoy home cooked delights on sunny days. 

The villa is in a private and serene area on a hilltop, surrounded by two hectares of fragrant landscaped gardens, featuring numerous terraces, centennial olive trees, cypresses, and oleanders that lead up to a woodland. Wander down one of the paths to admire panoramic views of the Saint-Véran Forest, the Alps and the sea. 

Stroll fifteen minutes down to old Villeneuve-Loubet, a charming Provencal village for coffee and pastries in the morning, before coming home for a dip in the pool. On sunny days, hop in the car and drive fifteen minutes to your pick of sandy beaches along the coastline, before lunch at a seafront restaurant. You’ll want to make it back home for sunset, for drinks on the terrace as the land turns golden. On warm evenings, light the candles at the poolside table and enjoy dinner beneath the stars.

With far-reaching views over the Ligurian Sea, this chic villa sits on a stunning stretch of coast named the Riviera dei Fiori.
