If you dream of castles, breathtaking views, and beautiful interiors that are fit for a prince or princess, then this is the home for you. Perched above Lake Garda, this apartment is a wildly romantic spot – it's guaranteed to sweep you off your feet. 

The pastel colour palette creates a charming, almost whimsical feel, where you can settle into life by the lake. The checkered sofa is a lovely place to curl up with a glass of Italian red wine, while the kitchen invites you to whip up your favourite pasta dishes. Step outside onto the balcony, and you can gaze out across the water – from quick breakfasts to lavish dinners, the alfresco dining space is lovely at all times of the day. Plus, you even have access to a shared swimming pool – it doesn't get much better than this. 

Padenghe Castle, a medieval fort, is just a five-minute walk away, where you can stroll through the ruins and soak up the sense of history. The edge of the lake is just a five-minute drive away, and you can walk or cycle along the many trails nearby. And, if you're a golfer then you're in luck – two of the most popular courses are within a six-kilometre drive of the house.

Come sun or snow, this charming timber retreat offers the perfect mountain getaway high in the Italian Alps. Located on the ground floor of a traditional alpine building in Livigno, the apartment is designed to be as flexible as possible, with a sleeping arrangement that's sure to suit.

Up to four people can be comfortably accommodated here, with two of the guests choosing between either a double sofa bed or two pull-down bunk beds that emerge from the wall, with two further guests in the tranquil main bedroom.

A compact kitchen contains everything you might need to whip up apres-ski sustenance sat around the dining table before exploring the traffic-free streets in the centre of the resort, a couple of kilometres up the road – with a free ski bus linking the town. Interestingly, the area has held duty-free status since the 16th century, meaning your money goes that bit further.

The area is fast establishing itself as one of the most exciting resorts in Italy and is set to host some of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Easily accessible slopes for all levels of snow sports enthusiast make Livigno a fun option for families and mixed-ability groups.

While ski resorts like Livigno have enough excellent terrain to draw the snowsports crowds, a relaxing stay in lush mountain scenery wouldn’t go amiss in warmer months. Just a five-minute walk from the nearest ski lift, this studio apartment is more than handy for skiers and snowboarders. But as the sun beats down in the heat of July, it’s equally wonderful for picturesque bike rides (courtesy of your host). Either way, you’ll be in need of relaxation afterwards – that’s where the sauna comes in.

Sharing its outdoor pool with just one other apartment, this modern home sits in large gardens, in a quiet spot overlooking the rolling hills – the blue of Lake Garda just visible across the trees. With lovely lawns, old olive trees and plenty of green all around, it's a comfortable and practical home-from-home. 

Inside, it's a ground floor apartment well suited to family life. Modern in design, its big windows and spacious rooms keep it bright and sociable, with all eyes on the view to the rear. There's a well kitted-out kitchen and a dining table inside, but we think you'll be spending much of your time eating on the covered terrace. 

After breakfast, head to the gated outdoor pool for a morning of swimming and playing on the trampoline, or hop in your car and you'll be by the lakeshore in a little over five minutes. 

From your home, it's a short walk into the village of Soiano del Lago, with its grocery shop and small restaurants, making this the ideal choice for a quiet family holiday away from the hustle and bustle of the busy resorts. Drive to the nearby beaches for fun at the lake, or spend a day at one of the nearby amusement parks – Gardaland is around half an hour's drive away.

You can also make use of the shared gardens. Restaurants are a short walk away, and optional extras like breakfast or even a butler service can be arranged. It’s compact and there’s no sofa, but with so much to explore nearby, we doubt you'll want to lounge about anyway.

As soon as you approach this lovely home's building, you're greeted with a beautiful pond with a fountain and colourful fish – we felt an air of calm straight away. The garden has an even bigger pond – the shared swimming pool is perfect for cooling off in the Italian heat or simply relax with a book on the lounger.

Inside the apartment, there are characterful exposed beams and terracotta tiled floors. Another stand-out feature of this home is the main bathroom which has Swarovski crystals set in the furniture and on the washbasin – we do love a bit of bling.

Situated a few steps from Spiaggia D'oro and the centre of Desenzano del Garda, it has a fabulous location. If you have kids with you, there's a playground 50 metres away too.

We were sold on those views of Lake Maggiore alone – and that was before we'd even clapped eyes on the panoramic sunny terrace and newly refurbished interiors of this townhouse. As we're finickity, the downstairs living space feels a little bijou, but with that covered panoramic balcony outside, we don't think you'll mind. And kids will love the novelty of the top-floor mezzanine bedroom with a TV den to spill out into. Perched amidst the hillsides, 700 metres above the lake, you're quietly removed from the bustle. But when it's time to dip your toes into lakeside living, Stresa's grand promenades and history-rich streets bustling with trattorias are just a five-minute drive away.

Situated a stone’s throw from Lake Como and within walking distance of the charming town of Lierna, this apartment guarantees peace and quiet for a small family or close-knit group of friends. The living space and main bedroom benefit from views of the water, and if you want to get a closer look, we recommend heading down to the communal garden and swimming pool. Keen to put your feet up as soon as you arrive? Your host provides a welcome pack as an optional add-on.

Lake Daydream

Modern, bright and beautiful as it is, nothing's going to beat the outdoor area here. With ample seating, including an alfresco dining table under a flowering pergola, looking out over the glistening lake, you can see why this one made our collection. We also like the bathtub facing the door so you can even admire the views from inside. Because of the perched location of this home, you'll have to climb steps up to it, but it'll all be worth it for the breathtaking panorama of Lake Como. This ground-floor hideaway is part of a beautifully restored Italian farmhouse. Designed with natural materials, it’s a cosy yet stylish base for couples or solo travellers. Our favourite spot? The private garden terrace, shaded by a wisteria-draped pergolas – perfect for tucking into breakfasts in the fresh air or enjoying an evening aperitivo as the sun sets. And with Bogogno Golf Club next door, Lago Maggiore a short drive away, and Malpensa Airport under 30 minutes, it’s a practical base to be at too.

This contemporary apartment is located in Via Tommaso Grossi in Como, offering panoramic views of the city and lake from the communal rooftop terrace. We love the sleek interiors of this home, which provides a comfortable stay for a family or group of friends. Just note – as a party of five, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. Still, it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make for this pad’s enviable location. If the views tempt you out for a meander, you’ll find Como at your feet just waiting to be explored.
