The bedrooms make it easy to switch off and unwind, while the terraces provide the perfect spot for drinks and alfresco dining. Your host can arrange sweet extras like breakfast delivery or a welcome basket. Plus, it’s in a great location. From here you can walk to the nearest market and it’s possible to reach the Vatican in just twenty-minutes.

You’re close enough to everything to explore on foot, but for those days when the heat is a little too much, you’ll be glad to be a three-minute walk from the Lepanto metro stop. You’re also in an area rife with restaurants, cafes and bars, so you don’t need to travel far for an exquisite meal or a chilled glass of wine. 

We like to start our day with a spot of people watching. Walk twelve minutes to Piazza del Popolo for a cappuccino with a view. From there, maybe you’ll tick off the Trevi Fountain – it’s fifteen minutes on the metro  – or meander the twenty-two minutes to the Spanish Steps. The Roman Forum is thirty-six minutes from the apartment – you’ll want to spend at least a couple of hours there, so pop into a trattoria for a pizza on the way. 

After a busy day in the bustling city, you’ll be glad to return to the apartment. Crack open a cold beer on the balcony in the late afternoon to soak up the atmosphere. After a brief respite, you’ll be ready to hit the town again.

Just around the corner, Little London is a curious slice of British style in the Eternal City, and this area is also famed for its authentic trattorias and the contemporary art museum MAXXI –  yet, you're just a short walk from the Piazza del Popolo.

The Flaminio quartiere sits in a bend of the River Tiber and lays claim to this classic Roman apartment. The interiors are 1930s inspired with vintage furnishings, rich dark wood accents and original terrazzo floors. After an industrious day exploring the Eternal City, we loved disappearing into what can only be described as a king-sized sofa, designed by Philippe Starck. Sip a cappuccino by the window overlooking the Monte Mario Observatory or take a seat at the dining table and enjoy a traditional cornetto. While you’re a fifteen-minute car ride to the centre of Rome, there’s plenty to do in your locale. In the summer, catch an outdoor movie at the Cinema Titian Roma, ten-minutes walk to the north, with the striking MAXXI contemporary art and architecture museum right next door. The manicured lawns of Villa Borghese are located twenty minutes south – perfect for picnics and afternoon strolls. Closer to home, you’ll find traditional wine bars and simple osterias along the tree-lined Viale del Vignola, just footsteps away.

It feels as if the rooms were designed with the guest in mind, so aside from the minimalist essentials, you're left with a lot of space to move around, which helps maximise the natural light as well. But there's another side to this home – the perfectly harmonised colours and the well-curated art prove that it's been designed with care and subtlety. Located next to a tram stop on the ancient Via Flaminia, you'll have easy access to the centre.

A stone's throw from the MAXXI, this apartment will be a hit with art aficionados. But it's not just the proximity to the museum that makes it a stand out – the Olympic Stadium is a short stroll across the famous Music Bridge, Piazza del Popolo is a fifteen-minute tram ride away, and the neighbourhood is home to pizzerias, restaurants, and cocktail bars. We're also big fans of this pad's design – particularly the bold wallpaper and sleek green tiles. There's also plenty of space for a couple or a solo traveller. We think it's a great option for those seeking a comfortable stay in a relaxed neighbourhood.

If you're a group heading to Rome, or perhaps two families travelling together, this home offers a colourful, arty alternative to run-of-the-mill apartments. With their own entrance accessed through an outer gate and a small outside space where you can sip coffee in the morning, they've been recently renovated with artistic flair. 

The one-bedroom apartment sleeps up to four, thanks to a sofa bed in the lounge, and this one is mainly decked out in red and black. High ceilings and a brick-effect wall make for a bright, fun place to put your feet up at the end of the day, and we particularly love the neon sign and touches of Americana. Laid out over two storeys, you’ll have two living rooms and two kitchens here, as well as a choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas – perfect for enjoying a meal cooked by a private chef, which your host can arrange. Designed by accomplished artist and interior designer, Francesca Squillante Montoro (also known as Tompiy), the home also boasts bespoke furnishings, eye-catching artwork, and a collection of lush plants. Location-wise, you’re in the Prati area of the city, known for its wide streets and gourmet restaurants, and within a twenty-minute walk of many of Rome’s iconic landmarks.

A Roman Affair

Even though it’s actually quite new, Vintage Rosa feels like it could be from the 50s (can you tell from the name?). In a good way, that is – it has a great balance of the old-fashioned aesthetic and modern fittings, so you won’t be stuck with sixty-year-old kitchen appliances. The whole building is run in the space between a hotel and a block of flats, as there’s more than enough to keep you independent, but you also get some extra services included, like cleaning every other day, and a reception during working hours.
