With wooden shuttered windows and an earthy terracotta glow, the exterior screams Rome. However, inside the apartment, generously proportioned communal spaces offer a contemporary vibe, with gleaming marble floors, a cool mint and light blue colour scheme, and modern furnishings throughout. 

Five uniquely decorated bedrooms combine exceptionally comfortable mattresses, bespoke beds and chintzy period details such as gleaming chandeliers, gilded picture frames and patterned wallpaper to create a totally unique style that we absolutely love.

It's situated in the upmarket district of Prati, which serves as something of a corporate hub during the week. Its grand sweeping boulevards and beautiful art nouveau buildings mean that it shouldn't be ignored. However, it seems to fly under the radar of most visitors, so you can browse the exclusive boutiques that line Cola di Rienzo (300m away) unbothered by gaggles of tourists. Step off the main thoroughfare and you'll discover low-key neighbourhood haunts and cool kerbside cafes where you can while away an afternoon over a long lunch.

Much like its sister apartment in the same building, Green Jay has an air of nobility that surrounds it. Antique furniture, dark wooden windows, and tiled floors all combine to encapsulate the feeling of elegance, a feeling which is common in Flaminio. This isn’t the place to stay if you want to be in the very middle of the action, but you get a sense of calm and a detachment from the tourist crowds, which is more than worth the extra journey time.

In fact, you can see the park of Villa Borghese from this home’s large terrace thanks to its fifth-floor location in a historic building. The stylish open-plan living room is a great place to relax and it also accommodates one guest on a sofa bed at full capacity. This is a great base for your Eternal City visit.

The Flaminio quartiere sits in a bend of the River Tiber and lays claim to this classic Roman apartment. The interiors are 1930s inspired with vintage furnishings, rich dark wood accents and original terrazzo floors. After an industrious day exploring the Eternal City, we loved disappearing into what can only be described as a king-sized sofa, designed by Philippe Starck. Sip a cappuccino by the window overlooking the Monte Mario Observatory or take a seat at the dining table and enjoy a traditional cornetto. While you’re a fifteen-minute car ride to the centre of Rome, there’s plenty to do in your locale. In the summer, catch an outdoor movie at the Cinema Titian Roma, ten-minutes walk to the north, with the striking MAXXI contemporary art and architecture museum right next door. The manicured lawns of Villa Borghese are located twenty minutes south – perfect for picnics and afternoon strolls. Closer to home, you’ll find traditional wine bars and simple osterias along the tree-lined Viale del Vignola, just footsteps away.

A mix of period features and a sleek, modern finish (particularly in the kitchen and bathrooms) have made for an upscale stay that’s brought to life with personal touches. Bedrooms are smart and bright, and the murals add character and recall the city’s many frescoes. Vatican City, Castel Sant’Angelo and Piazza del Popolo are all just a fifteen-minute walk away, while the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Campo di Fiori are just twenty-five minutes on foot. Not far from the Vatican, this apartment is an excellent family option. Though the living area isn't the largest, there's plenty of space across the five bedrooms. The kitchen is well-stocked if you fancy a home-cooked meal, but for something extra special, your host is happy to arrange a private chef for a fee. You'll also have access to a small balcony ideal for enjoying morning espressos and sipping sundowners. Location-wise, shops and restaurants are a short walk away, as is the iconic St Peter's Square. Further afield, but still within easy reach, are the city's other famous landmarks, putting you in a prime spot for exploring.

In upscale Prati, this apartment makes an excellent base for a Roman holiday. We love this location – the area's many wine bars and gourmet eateries are a stone's throw away, as is the Vatican when you're in the mood to sightsee. Juliet balconies overlook the pretty streets back home, pairing nicely with the sleek and minimalist interiors. The sofa bed can accommodate two guests, making it ideal for short stays. You'll also have access to a private terrace – it may not have any views, but it's still a pleasant spot to unwind in the evenings.

Part of the joy of visiting Rome is being in the thick of things – busy side-street eateries, crowds clamouring to see the sights, and dodging Vespas as you explore the city. This property is in the perfect location.

There are two apartments, making this ideal for groups of friends who want some space. The first is decorated with an eye-catching nod to Pop Art and street artists like Banksy, while the second taps into the romance of Rome with soft pastel shades and an elegant feel. 

You’re close enough to everything to explore on foot, but for those days when the heat is a little too much, you’ll be glad to be a three-minute walk from the Lepanto metro stop. You’re also in an area rife with restaurants, cafes and bars, so you don’t need to travel far for an exquisite meal or a chilled glass of wine. 

We like to start our day with a spot of people watching. Walk twelve minutes to Piazza del Popolo for a cappuccino with a view. From there, maybe you’ll tick off the Trevi Fountain – it’s fifteen minutes on the metro  – or meander the twenty-two minutes to the Spanish Steps. The Roman Forum is thirty-six minutes from the apartment – you’ll want to spend at least a couple of hours there, so pop into a trattoria for a pizza on the way. 

After a busy day in the bustling city, you’ll be glad to return to the apartment. Crack open a cold beer on the balcony in the late afternoon to soak up the atmosphere. After a brief respite, you’ll be ready to hit the town again.

Roman Sunset is an elegant penthouse with a huge terrace and wonderfully expansive views. The clue is in the home's name - the terrace is a truly wonderful place to enjoy the sunset over the city. Roman Sunset is located in Flaminio - it's a lovely residential and well-connected neighbourhood but if you're keen to stay in the historical centre itself then you might want to look elsewhere. With its gorgeous views, abundant natural light, and calming colour scheme, this home is the perfect place to retreat to after a long day.

Situated in the chic Art Nouveau neighbourhood, just steps from the Vatican City, this small but smart apartment provides a stylish base from which to explore many of Rome's must-see sights. You'll have everything needed for a comfortable stay in the city while getting around outside couldn't be easier – it's 100 meters from the bus stop and 600 metres from the Cyprus Metro. Along with the local amenities, bars and restaurants, you're also within walking distance of St. Peter's Basilica, Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Colosseum.

Comfort reigns supreme in this bright and appealing apartment – it’s easy to imagine a family or group of friends feeling very at ease in this rustic home. While there's no bold design or styling, the sober colours and abundance of wood make for a very relaxing and breathable environment to return to after days spent sightseeing. We really loved the unsuspecting little touches around the flat too, such as the Japanese-style painted wardrobe doors and the reclaimed cabinet. You'll notice plenty of tasteful artwork adorning the walls also. Come together in the traditional dining area for a quick coffee, before setting off to complete your tourist itinerary. We were surprised by just how quiet it was here, despite being in the heart of Rome. Walk to the historic Spanish Steps in just fifteen minutes – from there, go shopping and limoncello-sipping around the bustling Piazza di Spagna. Ascend back up the steps to one of the city's most beloved sights, Trevi Fountain, under eight minutes on foot from your new home.

If you're a group heading to Rome, or perhaps two families travelling together, this home offers a colourful, arty alternative to run-of-the-mill apartments. With their own entrance accessed through an outer gate and a small outside space where you can sip coffee in the morning, they've been recently renovated with artistic flair. 

The one-bedroom apartment sleeps up to four, thanks to a sofa bed in the lounge, and this one is mainly decked out in red and black. High ceilings and a brick-effect wall make for a bright, fun place to put your feet up at the end of the day, and we particularly love the neon sign and touches of Americana. Meanwhile, the other apartment is an ode to monochrome, with modern, designer furniture and a minimalist feel. Both have open-plan living spaces with dining tables and fully-equipped kitchens, and both have sleek, stylish bathrooms.

Just a short stroll from the nearest Metro station, it's just a couple of stops to the centre of the city, a twelve-minute walk across the bridge to Piazza del Popolo, or a half-hour walk to Vatican City.

If you love sports, then this apartment’s location will appeal – it’s within walking distance of the Olympic Stadium and the Campo Centrale for tennis fans. The River Tiber is also a short stroll away, while the National Museum of 21st Century Art is reachable on foot. This home has a kitchen and dining area, but there’s no lounge. If you’re here for work, though, each good-sized, comfy bedroom has a desk (and a modern en-suite). This place is an ideal alternative to a hotel.

Although In Motion seems like a simple home at first glance, it hides a lot of interesting details. It feels as if the rooms were designed with the guest in mind, so aside from the minimalist essentials, you're left with a lot of space to move around, which helps maximise the natural light as well. But there's another side to this home – the perfectly harmonised colours and the well-curated art prove that it's been designed with care and subtlety. Located next to a tram stop on the ancient Via Flaminia, you'll have easy access to the centre.

A stone's throw from the MAXXI, this apartment will be a hit with art aficionados. But it's not just the proximity to the museum that makes it a stand out – the Olympic Stadium is a short stroll across the famous Music Bridge, Piazza del Popolo is a fifteen-minute tram ride away, and the neighbourhood is home to pizzerias, restaurants, and cocktail bars. We're also big fans of this pad's design – particularly the bold wallpaper and sleek green tiles. There's also plenty of space for a couple or a solo traveller. We think it's a great option for those seeking a comfortable stay in a relaxed neighbourhood.

You can tell that someone who loves to travel owns this wonderful apartment – every corner features a charming curio collected from somewhere fabulous. The result is a stylish and eclectic home that’s the perfect base for a truly authentic Roman holiday. 

The crowds of tourists are kept at a slight distance, across the river. This apartment can be found in Prati, a neighbourhood that’s favoured by the well-heeled locals. There are bars, restaurants and shops all within a stone’s throw of the apartment building, and the Lepanto metro station is a mere eight-minute walk away so when you’re ready to see the sights, it’s as easy as can be. 

Start your day by tucking into pastries and coffee on the terrace. There are glorious views of the Vatican, which is just a twenty-four-minute walk away. Watch the streets below come to life while you plan how you’ll spend your stay. After visiting the Vatican and St Peter’s Basilica, perhaps you’ll stroll to Sant’Angelo Bridge – it’s nineteen minutes away. Decide which of the restaurants you pass you’ll return to for dinner, and definitely indulge in a scoop or two of gelato. 

Depending on your stamina, everything is within walking distance but in those peak summer months, you’ll be grateful for how easy it is to explore on the metro. The journey to the Pantheon takes twenty-one minutes. After a day spent touring around the historic sights, the apartment is a delightfully chilled-out space to return to. Sit on the terrace as the sun sets, sipping wine – city breaks don’t get better than this.

When it comes to sightseeing, you’re ideally placed too with Piazza del Popolo a twelve-minute stroll, Castel Sant'Angelo an eighteen-minute walk and St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City twenty-four minutes away on foot. You’re also a fourteen-minute walk from beautiful Villa Borghese and its manicured gardens, while all around you, Prati’s high-end boutiques, open-air wine bars, stylish cocktail lounges, and gourmet restaurants wait to be discovered.

Sip a negroni cocktail on this home's private terrace right in front of Piazza Del Popolo, with its stunning panoramic views of Rome's historical heart – this is la dolce vita. Inside there are more of those inspiring views of the Eternal City to admire – they stopped us in our tracks when we visited – they look like paintings. The classic style living space has lovely polished wood floors, a feature fireplace and an ornate galleried landing. This home is ideal for a couple, business professional or family of three.

Piazza del Popolo is a mere one-minute stroll from this home, or head to Terrazza del Pincio (four minutes on foot) – this 19th-century terrace with its fountains has fabulous views over to St. Peter's Basilica. It's the same walking distance to Villa Borghese Gardens, while Villa Medici is just over a ten-minute walk. Other attractions include the Spanish Steps, a twelve-minute saunter, and the Trevi Fountain, a twenty-minute amble.

Even though it’s actually quite new, Vintage Rosa feels like it could be from the 50s (can you tell from the name?). In a good way, that is – it has a great balance of the old-fashioned aesthetic and modern fittings, so you won’t be stuck with sixty-year-old kitchen appliances. The whole building is run in the space between a hotel and a block of flats, as there’s more than enough to keep you independent, but you also get some extra services included, like cleaning every other day, and a reception during working hours.

Laid out over two storeys, you’ll have two living rooms and two kitchens here, as well as a choice of indoor and outdoor dining areas – perfect for enjoying a meal cooked by a private chef, which your host can arrange. Designed by accomplished artist and interior designer, Francesca Squillante Montoro (also known as Tompiy), the home also boasts bespoke furnishings, eye-catching artwork, and a collection of lush plants. Location-wise, you’re in the Prati area of the city, known for its wide streets and gourmet restaurants, and within a twenty-minute walk of many of Rome’s iconic landmarks.

Situated in a historic building in the sought-after area of Prati, you’ll be surrounded by boutiques, restaurants, and gelaterias. And when it comes to sightseeing, the Vatican is just a ten-minute stroll away. While the modern decor here won’t be to everyone’s tastes, there’s no need to fight over the best bedroom – they’re all a similar size and each boasts a super-king bed, perfect for a good night’s sleep after a busy day exploring the city.

Located in the Prati neighbourhood, this home is the ideal base for a magical Roman holiday. You can stroll to the Vatican Museums in just ten-minutes, while shops, restaurants and cafes can all be found within easy walking distance. There are great public transport links – making it easy to get across the city. And when you’re looking to relax, this apartment has everything you could need to switch off after a day of sightseeing. There’s a small balcony, a cosy living room and three snug bedrooms – two of which come with desks for remote workers.

With room for a bright and accommodating living area, a well stocked kitchen, three separate bathrooms, and even a balcony, this home would be particularly suited to families or medium-sized friend groups. While there is some discrepancy between the bedrooms – the master gets a double bed and en-suite, while the others come with singles and pull-outs – there's lots to admire about this apartment, which is only half an hour from Vatican City on foot and fifteen minutes from Lepanto metro station.
