Inside provides a welcome respite from the heat of the midday sun, with cool terracotta floors, traditional furniture and local handicrafts. You’re 2km away from a string of white sand beaches, as well as the Marina di Portisco with its selection of waterfront restaurants. The characterful borgo of San Pantaleo is just inland and is ideal for picking up fresh produce for an Italian style feast come the evening. You’ll want to be back home before the sun goes down though, for an aperitif with a view.

The spacious home is actually composed of the main house and a separate outbuilding, meaning that all guests can enjoy some peace and quiet. You can flop down inside with a good book to hide from the heat, but we think you'll want to spend most of your time enjoying the fabulous outdoor space. This villa is an excellent spot in which to admire the natural beauty of Sardinia. Thanks to the home's elevated position, guests get a wonderful view of the dazzling blue waters of Porto Rotondo from the upper floors. However, don't be surprised if the paradisical garden immediately below grabs your attention, too.

Out here in among the colourful flower beds and handsome granite walls, you can while away lazy afternoons paddling about in the swimming pool, catching some rays on the loungers or cooking up a storm in the outdoor kitchen (complete with a barbecue and pizza oven).

Inside, the home is spread across four floors, so while there are plenty of stairs, it feels cool and airy, thanks to the high ceilings, stark white walls and terracotta tiling underfoot. If you're staying in a home situated on the Sardinian coastline, it would be a crying shame if the address didn't have an outdoor spot from which to admire the majesty of the local landscape. Thankfully, this apartment in the north of the island really delivers on the front.

Not only is there a large sun terrace with 180-degree views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and Tavolara island, but there are two further verandahs with alfresco tables and a well-kept garden. There are pleasant views out through the home's windows too, which, thanks to the elevated position, also bring in lots of natural light. This asset works particularly well with the bright and contemporary design throughout, from the white walls and glossy kitchen surfaces to the rather striking head sculpture in the living space.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the local area, there's a rock beach only eighty metres from the home and the sandy Spiaggia Mare Rocce is two hundred metres' walk. There's a decent choice of restaurants in the surrounding town of Pittulongu, while you can find a wider choice, plus some archaeological ruins, in the city of Olbia, just over fifteen minutes' drive away.

If location is king, this villa deserves to wear a crown. This seafront home is perched just above the sea that laps to shore on Quinta Spiaggia, which you can stroll to in just a few minutes. The sea views are stunning, and the home has been designed to make the most of them. A large terrace leads from the living room, so your eye is drawn to the water from almost every angle – including from the private heated swimming pool. This is a great home for a large group as there’s plenty of space. It’s also been fitted with a stair lift so can accommodate those with reduced mobility. You’ll need to pay for your linen though.

Designed by architect Cini Boeri, this wonderfully unique home in Sardinia is tilted forward to better show off the panoramic views of its incredible surroundings. Created to make the most of indoor-outdoor living, it's also cleverly constructed to keep the south-facing areas cool and shaded, shielding your from the heat of the Sardinian sun. While the stark grey facade and sharply angled lines make a breathtaking first impression, we think the interiors speak for themselves too. We love how the architect decided to show off the incredible landscape of La Maddalena by creating a picture frame out of every window – each one set at the exact right height to maximise the impact. There’s even a telescope in the study so you can explore the area from the comfort of your own home, or go full Rear Window and see what your neighbours are up to down in the harbour. The muted grey tones of the exterior are mirrored in the contemporary kitchen, while the dining room is framed by floor-to-ceiling windows offering the best views in the house. Outside, you’ll find a wooden deck that’s perfect for morning coffees, evening cocktails, and everything in between.

Beach lovers rejoice – this villa is within a short stroll of a trio of sandy beaches, with the nearest just 50m away. Located on a complex overlooking Golfo Aranci bay, you’ll have access to a large, shared pool with spectacular sea views, as well as your own private garden and terrace. Location wise, you’re a short drive from the centre of Golfo Aranci, where you’ll find a picturesque harbour and a selection of restaurants and bars, and a fifteen minute drive from the historic town of Olbia.

This home boasts an envy-inducing setting in Capo Ferro, one of Porto Cervo’s most sought-after neighbourhoods. From its hilltop position, it boasts remarkable views of the Mediterranean Sea, tempting guests to travel the 1.5 miles to the marina for boat trips along the coast. Inside, the villa is elegant and comfortable. We love the outdoor kitchen, and the porch for drinking in the views after a dip in the private pool.

With an advantageous hillside position giving way to panoramic views of Palombaggia Bay, this home is all about tranquillity. You'll find a private swimming pool and alfresco dining table all positioned towards the scenery. Personally, we like the little observation nook. Two chairs create the perfect opportunity for a romantic sunset moment. Though the interior doesn't quite hold a candle to the surroundings, it's still comfortable. There's also more than enough room for a family or group of friends. As for location, beach lovers can rejoice knowing they're only 800 meters from Palombaggia Beach.

You’ll have a Jacuzzi to unwind in but no pool, so this home will really only appeal to those who enjoy sea swimming and the feel of sand underfoot. The twin rooms are ideal for children. Looking for a smart crash pad in Olbia’s bustling centre? This sea-facing home should do nicely. Granted, the interiors aren’t the most characterful, and there’s no kitchen or living space to speak of, but the private balcony is a nice touch for morning brews (and the coffee pod machine can help with those). Location-wise, you’ve got the best of this bustling port city at your feet. Grab a dose of sea air along the promenade right outside your door, and when thoughts turn to food, head to the old town’s restaurant-lined plaza for the freshest seafood imaginable. Fancy a beach day? There are miles of uncrowded sandy coves waiting just a short drive away.

If you can tear yourself away from your home's many little luxuries, you're only a fifteen-minute walk from a sandy beach and the charming marina filled with bobbing yachts, while just outside your door, the Old Town offers up restaurants, bars and plenty of cultural attractions including the impressive Église St-Jean-Baptiste.

If you want to feel like you’ve stepped into the Garden of Eden, this villa’s for you. This dreamy home has three terraces with alfresco dining tables and stunning views – not to mention the private pool. The interiors are a little rustic, but let's face it, you're not travelling to Sardinia to sit inside. The best part is the remarkable location on an exclusive peninsula that looks out over the Maddalena archipelago. Stroll to the beach in minutes, or better yet, head out by boat.

Now that's what we call a view. Whether you're relaxing on the balcony, swimming in the pool or whipping up a feast in the kitchen, you'll be able to watch the waves rolling in the sea. Although bed linen and towels are an additional cost, each bedroom is comfortable and cosy – but, as there's only space for eight around the table, we think ten guests will be a squeeze. Location-wise, Costa Paradiso is yours to discover. Li Cossi beach is less than a five-minute drive, with restaurants, bars and seasonal shops also within striking distance.

You’ll love tucking into your daily delivery of home-made pastries before whiling away hours lazing on loungers in the sun, dipping in and out of the pool or luxuriating in your private, outdoor hot tub. Prepare firm family favourites on the range in the kitchen or hang out in the outdoor kitchen, before feasting on barbecued delights on the covered, poolside deck. Spend the afternoon reading or reclining on the raised terracotta terrace or wander about the garden while inhaling the intoxicating scents of eucalyptus and maquis. Whatever you do, don’t forget to host a hammam session before grabbing a bottle of the estate’s fine wine and watching the sunset behind the mountains.

Alternatively, if you fancy a little light exploration, one of the island’s most idyllic beaches, Plage de Roccapina is just 14km away whilst the historic village of Sartène can be reached in 20 minutes by car.
