You'll also find ancient ruins of a Greek theatre with incredible sea views, making this the ideal place for avid historians. 

When you return home, the patio awaits – tuck into a laid-back supper on the patio and enjoy the scenery. The hammock or swinging chair are great spots to catch a sunset – don't forget to pour yourself a glass of wine first.

Agrigento is thirty-five minutes away by car, where you'll find ancient temples and a historic old town. And, if you head inland, you can visit rustic villages or do some hiking through the striking landscapes.

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. Drive along the coast to find your favourite among a number of rocky and sandy beaches and once there, you can fully indulge yourself for the day. Swim until the tides and sunshine has left you feeling that particular brand of happy-tired, or catch up on your reading as you lie back under an umbrella and listen to the waves lapping upon the shore. 

Back home you’ll find all the comforts you expect from a holiday home and we encourage you to spend time outdoors under the shaded terrace.
