Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

This beautiful verandah leads directly off the l. It offers a shaded dining area, plenty of seating around its perimeter, and easy access to the sun loungers dotted about the lawn. A short stretch of rocky shoreline is all that separates you from the sea, making the lack of a swimming pool a non-issue, as you can simply take a few steps straight into the inviting azure sea when you want to cool off.

If you prefer to feel the sand between your toes, Spiaggia Fontane Bianche is just over a kilometre away. This popular spot offers fine golden sand and dazzling blue waters backed by a small selection of bars and restaurants, where you can dine on fresh Sicilian seafood as you look out over the ocean.

When you've had enough of topping up your tan for the day, why not drive the 16km to the historic city of Syracuse, known for its ancient ruins and the lovely island of Ortigia. In addition to the history, you'll uncover a spectacular selection of lively bars, traditional restaurants and plenty of shops to pick up a holiday memento or two.

An hour or so south, the charming Baroque towns of Noto, Modica and Ragusa make for fascinating day trips. In addition, we'd recommend stepping back in time on a visit to the former fishing village of Marzamemi on Sicily's southern tip.

This apartment can be found in the popular seaside resort of Letojanni in Sicily. It’s just a few kilometres from Taormina, so there’s plenty to see and do. We recommend visiting Isola Bella in particular. The apartment looks out over the sea and has a small terrace where you can enjoy the sunshine. Even when you’re inside, the sea views are the focal point thanks to huge windows. The decor inside is chic with a playful side, with charming trinkets dotted around. We think this home is perfect for a couple, a small family, or a trio of friends.

On the edge of the Ionian coast, you’ll want to drop your bags and immediately head out to the terrace. From the villa you are well placed to explore Sicily’s delights: the baroque town of Noto and Syracuse are both a twenty-five minute drive away, while the hamlet of Fontane Bianche is on your doorstep: home to beach bars, laidback restaurants and local shops.

Modica itself is a Unesco town with years of history to explore. Wander its wonderful streets and make sure to indulge in lots of chocolate here – the town has a 400-year tradition of Sicilian chocolate making. We recommend checking out the centrepiece of the town, the Duomo di San Giorgio, which is one of the most spectacular sights of Baroque architecture in Sicily. But if days walking around is too much, then why not spend a day at one of the fine beaches in this area? Sampieri is one of the most famous and it's only a twenty-eight-minute drive. We especially like the idea of picking up some local Sicilian cherries and enjoying them in the garden with a view. Life moves slowly here, and that's exactly how we like it! 

The home itself is a mirror of beauty to the turquoise water outside of it. Modern in design and flawless in execution, you'll have a hard time tearing yourself away from this plush pad. But considering the gems waiting to be discovered in Sicily, you're going to have to at times. This villa sits magnificently by the water, just a six-minute drive from the bustling town of Augusta, or half an hour from Syracuse if you’re looking for something a bit more metropolitan. That said, when you’ve got your very own slice of the seaside in this home, it might be tempting to stay put.

Sitting right on the island’s coastline, your Martini isn’t the only thing on the rocks. This villa has its own private access path down to the shore. But if wild swimming isn’t your thing, you’ve also got a huge infinity pool on your terrace. You could spend the entire day floating here with a cocktail in hand, but other options include barbecues on the lush lawn or brunches on the patio.

On a rare, rainy day, serve up Italian cuisine on one of two dining tables inside. The playful interiors are sure to brighten your day, with a modern, yellow-themed kitchen and rich red tones running through the living space. And the final primary colour is of course the magnificent view of the azure sea, pool, and traditional wooden shutters to match.

After a day exploring the picturesque city, you can share dinners overlooking the sea and enjoy sunsets from the balcony with a glass of Nero d’Avola in hand.

Nestled high up on the hills overlooking the sea, this villa offers guests stunning views and comfy outdoor spaces, complete with an infinity pool and alfresco dining areas. A short drive away from Taormina and the beaches, the home makes for a good base for families or groups of friends on the lookout for a Catania escape. Bear in mind that there are quite a few steps to climb inside, some of which are steep, so children will need to be supervised at all times. The proximity of a busy road also means that some street noise is to be expected here.

Step inside, and you'll find a tranquil space that invites you to make yourself at home. It's the perfect place to relax and enjoy some respite from the heat – however, we think you'll want to spend most of your time outside in the sunshine. Make a splash in the glittering swimming pool, before kicking back on a sun lounger with a good book. And, when evening rolls around, you can gather on the terrace to sip an aperitivo as you admire the olive trees and watch the sunset. 

Fans of the seaside can take their pick from sandy beaches and hidden coves – we suggest Lido di Spinasanta, just a fifteen-minute drive away. The city of Noto is half an hour away by car, and makes a great day trip destination, thanks to its baroque architecture and delicious food. And, should you want to travel a little further afield, the ancient port city of Syracuse is only an hour's drive away. 

Fresh Sicilian Lemonade

This apartment on the eastern edge of Sicily between Riposto and Acireale is a real feast for the eyes. Not only is the building in which it sits painted a vivid shade of pink that's instantly mood-lifting, but it also faces a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea in one direction and Mount Etna the other way.

You can admire this panorama from the two terraces surrounded by verdant Mediterranean vegetation and palm trees, or out through the wooden windows. Although the interior can't hope to compete with these surroundings, the mix of rustic features and colourful flourishes are pleasing to be among. The patterned tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms is pretty, while the wooden furnishings and terracotta tilings add a real sense of homeliness.

As you can see from gazing out over the terrace, there's a pebbly beach that's easily reached from the home, but the nearest sandy spot is in Riposto six minutes' drive up the coastline. The port city of Catania is only thirty-five minutes away in the car too when you fancy a wander around the grand architecture and a meal in one of its seafood restaurants.




Hot Pink

Looking out at that view from the (unfenced) rooftop terrace, there’s is no doubt you’re in the heart of historic Noto. Shambling rooftops lead to the crowning dome of Noto Cathedral, showing off just how central you are. Down a set of stairs, you’ll find an enclosed terrace for meals outside and glass doors leading to the solarium-style sitting room. The rooftop view from the breakfast table in the dine-in kitchen is just as impressive. Each main bedroom is bright and spacious, and the mezzanine bedroom has its own sitting room, but if you’re packing this place to capacity, two people will be in a box room with no windows. 

Baroquen Heart

Sip a limoncello as you relax on the pink-hued terrace, surrounded by plants, as the sun fades at this home in Syracuse. Later whip up some pasta con le sarde in the kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table. Afterwards, unwind on the yellow sofa or have a rest in the traditional bedroom before heading out to one of the nearby bars.

Located on the Ionian coast of Sicily, Syracuse is known for its ancient ruins. Head to the Archaeological Park Neapolis, which has a stunning Roman amphitheatre, a fifteen-minute ride away. It's around the same distance to the Museo Archeologico Regionale Paolo Orsi, or Cala Rossa Beach, with its golden sands and crystal clear waters, is just one minute on foot. Alternatively, take some photos of the Arethusa Spring, just a two-minute stroll from this home.
