Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

We don’t think there’s a better way to experience the ancient feel of Modica than with a stay at a historic stone home dating back to the 1500s. This home delivers that, along with a few 21st-century touches to keep things feeling luxurious. It’s in the heart of the city, where the narrow streets are home to chi-chi coffee shops and family-run restaurants serving Sicilian cuisine. You’ve even got a view of the ancient church next door from the terraced garden.

Set over stone terraces and patios, the garden is filled with verdant plants and cacti, and feels like a little oasis in the centre of town. Fire up the audio system while you make drinks and snacks in the outdoor kitchen, or throw some meats on the barbecue for an alfresco lunch. 

The rooms inside are characterised by high ceilings and dark wooden beams that contrast with the whitewashed walls. Sleek, minimalist furniture is compounded by statement pieces: we love the sunken living area with the towering ultramarine ornamental fireplace. The villa is just 50 metres from the sea, and there are beautiful sandy beaches within easy reach. 

From the villa you are well placed to explore Sicily’s delights: the baroque town of Noto and Syracuse are both a twenty-five minute drive away, while the hamlet of Fontane Bianche is on your doorstep: home to beach bars, laidback restaurants and local shops.

Looking out at that view from the (unfenced) rooftop terrace, there’s is no doubt you’re in the heart of historic Noto. Shambling rooftops lead to the crowning dome of Noto Cathedral, showing off just how central you are. Down a set of stairs, you’ll find an enclosed terrace for meals outside and glass doors leading to the solarium-style sitting room. The rooftop view from the breakfast table in the dine-in kitchen is just as impressive. Each main bedroom is bright and spacious, and the mezzanine bedroom has its own sitting room, but if you’re packing this place to capacity, two people will be in a box room with no windows.

This apartment can be found in the popular seaside resort of Letojanni in Sicily. It’s just a few kilometres from Taormina, so there’s plenty to see and do. We recommend visiting Isola Bella in particular. The apartment looks out over the sea and has a small terrace where you can enjoy the sunshine. Even when you’re inside, the sea views are the focal point thanks to huge windows. The decor inside is chic with a playful side, with charming trinkets dotted around. We think this home is perfect for a couple, a small family, or a trio of friends.

Situated at a vantage point overlooking panoramic scenes of Modica, when you walk out onto the balcony and witness magnificent views of the light forming over the town, you'll be sure to feel energised for the day ahead. That's important as there's a lot to do and see in this stunning region of Sicily. 

Modica itself is a Unesco town with years of history to explore. Wander its wonderful streets and make sure to indulge in lots of chocolate here – the town has a 400-year tradition of Sicilian chocolate making. We recommend checking out the centrepiece of the town, the Duomo di San Giorgio, which is one of the most spectacular sights of Baroque architecture in Sicily. But if days walking around is too much, then why not spend a day at one of the fine beaches in this area? Sampieri is one of the most famous and it's only a twenty-eight-minute drive. No matter what you choose to do during the day, we guarantee you'll end up spending your evenings on this home's balcony watching the lights of Modica twinkle at night while sipping on a glass of something tasty. With a few wineries in the surrounding area, why not go on a tour – you’ll get to each of them in ten minutes or less – and bring back a few of your favourites to enjoy with the Mediterranean feast you’ll prepare on the barbecue? Of course you’ll escape to the beach as often as possible, but the lively fishing village of Marzamemi is utterly charming and reachable by car in eight minutes.

Relax with a cup of coffee and a good book at the dining table, or head outside to savour a bottle of wine in the courtyard with friends. Why not have a go at cooking some Sicilian food? Take your plate onto the patio to dine alfresco as the sun goes down. 

The Stone Garden

In the east of Sicily, where the blue waters of the Ionian Sea lap the shores, there’s no better place to be than on the coast. This villa sits magnificently by the water, just a six-minute drive from the bustling town of Augusta, or half an hour from Syracuse if you’re looking for something a bit more metropolitan. That said, when you’ve got your very own slice of the seaside in this home, it might be tempting to stay put.

Sitting right on the island’s coastline, your Martini isn’t the only thing on the rocks. This villa has its own private access path down to the shore. But if wild swimming isn’t your thing, you’ve also got a huge infinity pool on your terrace. You could spend the entire day floating here with a cocktail in hand, but other options include barbecues on the lush lawn or brunches on the patio.

On a rare, rainy day, serve up Italian cuisine on one of two dining tables inside. The playful interiors are sure to brighten your day, with a modern, yellow-themed kitchen and rich red tones running through the living space. And the final primary colour is of course the magnificent view of the azure sea, pool, and traditional wooden shutters to match.

You’ll also find plenty of space across the peaceful garden and terraces, while the rooms provide a calm and family-friendly sanctuary. Housekeeping is included in your stay, plus there are a range of extra services available from beauty treatments to private chefs. And for sightseeing, head to nearby Syracuse or Noto – both less than 20 kilometres away.

This apartment on the eastern edge of Sicily between Riposto and Acireale is a real feast for the eyes. Not only is the building in which it sits painted a vivid shade of pink that's instantly mood-lifting, but it also faces a gorgeous view of the Ionian Sea in one direction and Mount Etna the other way.

You can admire this panorama from the two terraces surrounded by verdant Mediterranean vegetation and palm trees, or out through the wooden windows. Although the interior can't hope to compete with these surroundings, the mix of rustic features and colourful flourishes are pleasing to be among. The patterned tiling in the kitchen and bathrooms is pretty, while the wooden furnishings and terracotta tilings add a real sense of homeliness.

As you can see from gazing out over the terrace, there's a pebbly beach that's easily reached from the home, but the nearest sandy spot is in Riposto six minutes' drive up the coastline. The port city of Catania is only thirty-five minutes away in the car too when you fancy a wander around the grand architecture and a meal in one of its seafood restaurants.

Located in the pretty coastal town of Marsala, this stylish villa is ideally situated for exploring all of the sandy beaches, ancient ruins and wineries of Sicily's west coast. Boasting a gorgeous garden, you couldn't ask for a better spot to soak up the Sicilian sunshine. Start your days with a refreshing swim in the private pool, then make yourself a coffee and enjoy the shade of the patio for a while. If you fancy a chill day at home, you have plenty of sun loungers, umbrellas and comfy sofas to relax on. 

We highly recommend you take some time to explore the local area, too. The centre of Marsala is full of great wine bars and restaurants, making it perfect for a bite to eat and a relaxing afternoon sampling some of the local produce. There are also some beautiful beaches here, meaning you have the best of both worlds on your doorstep.
