This charming stone villa is an ideal base for those seeking outdoor adventures. Nestled near the Apennines near Lucca, in summer you can hike, cycle, and climb, and in winter, you can ski. In the valleys of the Garfagnana, you can enjoy rafting and canyoning too – it really is a thrill-seekers' paradise. Back home, the villa has a warm, traditional Tuscan style, while the outdoor space was made for relaxing after a busy day. Soak in the pool, sip wine on the sun-kissed terraces and relive the day’s adventures – what’s not to love?

Chestnut & Vine

Deep within the green Ligurian hills behind the famous Cinque Terre (a 35-kilometre drive away), this villa offers an escape from it all. After exploring the surrounding scenery by bike or on foot, you can kick back by the poolside, play games on vast lawns or gather for alfresco feasts on the covered barbecue terrace. This place consists of two separate villas, each with its own open kitchen, living and dining room for social evenings together. The traditional feel of some of the furnishings and bathrooms won’t be for everyone, but the vast, manicured space outside makes up for it.

Situated in the hills of the Province of Parma, this historic home is an idyllic spot for nature lovers looking for relaxation. There’s a private swimming pool among the fruit trees and a large patio terrace featuring a dining table and outdoor lounge, where you can spend lazy afternoons with a spritz and a good book. Although the decor feels dated in places and may not be to everyone's taste, the style is in keeping with the area’s rich heritage.

Outside, you’ll find the communal pool – perfect for a refreshing dip. We love this home for a romantic retreat or solo getaway, in a tiny village that remains satisfyingly serene even in summer. It's day-trip distance from Lucca too – a fairy tale town where you can stroll or cycle the old city walls.

Tucked into tiered gardens overlooking the Ligurian Sea, this villa feels like a private slice of the Riviera. A tranquil Tuscan retreat, this apartment sits in a stunning setting surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful mountain views. Some facilities here are shared between the apartments, including the swimming pool and sauna, but each home has its own private outdoor area with a barbecue, perfect for alfresco dining. The apartment is comfortable and cosy, with a well-equipped kitchen. Whether you’re seeking a family-friendly escape or a vacation spot for two couples, this apartment offers an excellent blend of comfort and convenience. 

The Old Kiln

Set amidst picturesque Ligurian hills and just a short drive from the coast and the gorgeous villages of the Cinque Terre, this home makes for a great place to retreat to and enjoy a family holiday. 

With a generous outdoor space, a swimming pool and plenty of games and activities to be enjoyed, we think you’ll have a swell time here. The home offers plenty of space and a quirky interior, which emanates character and hints at the hosts’ varied interests. This may not be an ultra-modern villa, but if it’s charm and homeliness you’re after, this place has them in spades. 

There’s more than ample room for kicking back and relaxing, with an open-plan kitchen and dining room on the ground floor and a large and cosy living room on the first floor. Rustle up delicious feasts in the country-style kitchen and gather outside for wine and laughter under the stars. There’s also a barbecue out here to make those alfresco suppers even more fun. 

Get a good night’s sleep in any of the six bedrooms, with additional sleeping arrangements available in the living room, and wake up feeling well-rested and ready to explore. With idyllic country walks, cycling trails and horse riding options, you’ll be able to truly experience Liguria’s great outdoors.  

I'm Lovin' It 

This home caught our eye for its sea views across the Gulf of Tigullio. And even when you’re indoors, you can still enjoy the water vistas from the living area and some of the bedrooms. We love the outdoor space here, which is well set up for lazy days by the pool and alfresco dining. Hikers will be pleased to hear that there are coastal walks aplenty nearby, and for days at the beach, you’ll find a choice of seaside towns within driving distance. We think this home provides the perfect backdrop for a peaceful getaway with family or friends – just note that not every room has air conditioning. 


Your Coastal Retreat

This sleek and modern stonehouse is perched on the hillside of Corniglia, one of the Cinque Terre localities. Surrounded by a thousand square metres of olive trees, lemon, and orange groves, it offers panoramic views of the Ligurian Sea below. Spend your days exploring coastal trails, charming Cinque Terre villages, and sandy beaches. In the evening, fire up the barbecue for dinner in the outdoor kitchen and dining area, or stroll into Corniglia to sample local dishes at one of its excellent restaurants, just a short walk up the hillside.

Though the decor won't be to everyone's taste, with a main house and a separate guest house, it’s an excellent choice for a couple of families looking to holiday together without crowding each other. There’s even a swing and slide, so little ones can tire themselves out while the grown-ups relax.

If you're seeking seclusion among the gorgeous Tuscan hills, this stone-built villa is the perfect escape. Offering elegant calm indoors and a beautiful range of outdoor spaces – including leafy green grounds, a private pool area, and multiple terraces with panoramic views for dining and reclining – this home feels like a true hideaway for couples or families in search of la dolce vita. The location is certainly remote – the nearby hamlet has around forty residents – but if you're keen to explore, you won't be far from the smaller spa town of Bagna di Lucca, while larger settlements like Lucca and Pisa can be reached in around an hour.
