This clifftop villa has something of a show-home feel, and it’s no surprise when your hosts are two brilliant architects. Both the indoor area and outside are absurdly stylish. The living space is all grey-scale and geometric, with a modular sofa and hexagonal tiles. The theme is continued upstairs, where there are sharp-angled mirrors, diamond patterns and Escher-inspired floors. We love the use of colour, particularly the turquoise bathroom, a reminder of the spectacular surroundings. Outside, amidst the Sicilian olive trees and gardens, a spacious terrace gives way to incredible views of the Mediterranean, with glimpses of Cefalù on the horizon. The nimble-footed among you should take the narrow steps down to the Tyrrhenian Sea below, perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Or choose the more leisurely approach and wander 700m down the secret path to the beachfront. Spend your evenings under pink skies, with wine and conversation flowing freely around the alfresco dining table, before crashing into comfy beds, lulled to sleep by the gentle lapping of waves.

Set within acres and acres of olive groves, this villa is all about Sicily’s peace and quiet. If you do want to catch a bit of the island’s buzz and stock up on supplies, the historic town of Castelvetrano is a short drive away. But this place is all about the tranquil life, floating in the huge, turquoise swimming pool or enjoying a long, lazy lounge thanks to the full outdoor kitchen. There are plenty of shaded spots with comfy seating dotted around the grounds. 

The villa is set out courtyard-style, all on one level (except for one little turret) with white buildings clustered around the pool terrace. Bedrooms, living rooms and dining areas have their own entrances onto the terrace. Inside, we love the old-world feel of the place with its sloped, wooden ceilings in the bedrooms and Persian rugs in the living room. Furniture feels like it belongs to a 19th-century aristocrat. There’s a big wood-burning stove in the dine-in kitchen, though we doubt you’ll need it in the heat of spring, autumn and summer. All in all, this place feels like you’ve got your own castle in the Sicilian countryside.

Outside is where you’ll probably enjoy all of your meals considering the beautiful view of the Sicilian countryside. Have a chef prepare your meals or opt for a grilled feast by making use of the barbecue found in the outdoor kitchen. 

The saltwater pool will offer reprieve from the blazing sun when it’s at its apex – paddle lazily in it’s crystalline waters and enjoy a cocktail in the sunlounger after. With plenty of outdoor seating, it doesn’t just create opportunities for wine and antipasto for the entire group, it also allows you to steal away to enjoy a cup of coffee at one of the more intimate tables.

One of our favourite features is the cobbled floor of the dining space – the farmhouse style goes a long way in making this feel homely, which makes it the perfect room for tiramisu, copious amounts of coffee, and a board game or two. 

Now that you’re among some of the most charming towns found on this side of Sicily, you may as well visit the mediaeval town of Erice or the salt pans of Marsala.

In the evening, return home and fire up the barbecue for meals on the terrace in the Italian alfresco style. Then, as the night grows chillier, snuggle up together in front of the open-hearth fireplace.

Found on arid hilltops in the South of Sicily, the ancient ruins of eight Greek temples still stand strong in the Valley of the Temples and have long been thought of as an archeological wonder. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Valley might require you to stay a while – it’ll take at least three hours to explore – but it’s well worth it to glimpse a period in time where Agrigento was the Greek Akragas. 

About a ten-minute drive away from these 2500-year-old ruins, you’ll come home to this beautiful villa in which you’re encouraged to do as much, or as little, as you please. Start your day off by enjoying a cup of coffee and a good book out on the sun terrace found to the side of the house. From here you’ll be able to admire in the views, take a little bit of me-time, and plot the day whilst the rest of the house comes to life. Preparing breakfast can be done in the very generous kitchen before moving outside to dine alfresco, but the loggia has a small setup of its own if you’d prefer to breathe in the fresh, Mediterranean air whilst working. 

Take advantage of the pool as often as possible and find the jacuzzi among the rocks. Lounge, barbecue, and stroll around the beautiful estate whenever you’re not indoors appreciating the sheer size of the space. With enough room for everyone to roam, this home is more than a base from which to discover Sicily, it’s a little oasis.

But, when you do go out to explore, there’s a beach to drive to in under fifteen minutes, and Atenea boat hire will get you out on the open water.
