An open space in a sixteenth-century building, in the hilly outskirts of Florence that, at time at times, has been both a stables and a nightclub, Thermae is one of the most spectacular places we’ve seen in Italy. Its restoration has been a labour of love for the host, Giovanni, and the way that he’s incorporated technology into the original structure is simply impressive.

We love how much greenery surrounds this home, and how it can make you appreciate the simple things in life as you take a long walk through the flora, breathing in the fresh air and listening to the bird's chirp.

The sprawling grounds of this Tuscan villa are home to woodland walks where you can spot birds, a big private pool for cooling dips and lots of different places to dine and unwind out in nature. Inside, the traditional decor won’t be for everyone – the kitchen feels a little dated, but it’s got everything you need for big group meals, and the ramshackle collection of sofas and armchairs is homely.
