Floor-to-ceiling black-framed windows and a sensitive renovation have turned this 16th-century Umbrian dovecote tower into one of the region's smartest stays. Behind the stone tower, the jagged cliffs and town of Orvieto loom, while in front, the rolling hills stretch before you. Interiors meld old with new. Flagstone floors and antique furniture sit alongside steel ceiling pipes and geometric prints. As one would expect in a tower, there are several spiralling staircases – as well as gawp-worthy views. Push open the sliding doors in the grey, country-style kitchen and step out onto the terrace. A built-in barbecue and wrought-iron table overlook the Italian countryside, while a large vegetable garden and fruit trees provide the freshest ingredients. Continue down to find 1.5 hectares of garden with Etruscan origin and the swimming pool, which was once an agricultural fountain. Forget about any form of work, now all you have to worry about is which spot to pick around the water, with the rush of the nearby brook providing background music.

On A Wing & Prayer

This Tuscan farmhouse sits within a renowned winery, just a ten-minute drive from Arezzo. 250 metres away, guests can enjoy wine tasting and delicious Tuscan food in the winery’s garden. A cosy farmhouse living room and kitchen await inside. We love the dining room with its walls of glass doors offering unobstructed views of the rolling hills, along with a rustic-style semi-outdoor kitchen with a wood-burning oven. Outside, the villa has a beautiful garden with a private corner swimming pool overlooking the valley and city of Arezzo. Start your Tuscan dream the right way with dinner offered by the owners on arrival and a welcome basket for next day's breakfast.

We love the contemporary interiors, and with each bedroom boasting its own en-suite, there will be no queue to get ready in the mornings. Outdoors, you can immerse yourself in nature while you swim in the private pool, sunbathe on the terrace or simply soak up the far-reaching views. Keen to explore the region? You’ll find a golf course nearby, or you can take a scenic drive to Perugia – full of history and cobbled alleyways, it’s well worth a visit. 

Hilltop Bliss

Located in Cortona’s historic centre, this handsome apartment blends rustic charm with modern comforts to create a memorable, relaxing stay.

Amidst rolling hills and sweeping vineyards, this stone villa promises a serene Umbrian getaway. With a seasonal swimming pool, outdoor fire pit and dappled terrace perfect for alfresco dining, you won't be short on spots to soak up the swoon-worthy scenery. Inside, the design is charming and cosy, bursting with traditional character. Some may consider it a little dated, but we think that's part of the appeal. Two guests will share a sofa bed on the mezzanine, though – since privacy is limited, we think it's best for kids. Location-wise, you're just a short drive from the small medieval town of Gualdo Cattaneo, while Todi, Perugia and Assisi are all excellent options for day trips.

Hills of Tranquillity

Strolling through the two acres of land surrounding this complex of three 18th-century villas, it’s easy to see why this place has hosted many a rustic Italian wedding. A private chapel, terraces and patios galore for pre-reception drinks, and a vaulted dining hall as long as a tunnel that can be draped with fairy lights to host a lavish affair. Even if no one’s tying the knot, a large group can spread out by the poolside, in a medley of grand and modern lounges, or simply wander between the fruit trees and forestry of the grounds. Location-wise, you’re in the heart of Italy’s Le Marche region, famed for medieval hilltop towns and stretch of sandy beaches along the Adriatic. 

Rossini's Opera

Originally a castle with an adjoining 11th-century church adorned with frescoes, this grand home is perfect for weddings and special celebrations. Set on a renowned estate, there are stunning views of the Umbrian hills and vineyards from the gardens, alfresco dining areas and the heated infinity pool. The main house sleeps six guests, while on the other side of the garden, there’s an annexe which sleeps eight people – all bedrooms have a marble en-suite. This contemporary villa set on the edge of Terontola in southern Tuscany is just the ticket for those seeking a serene escape away from it all. Boasting modern interiors, a private pool and sun-kissed terraces, it’s a real gem. But the cherry on the cake? This home has its very own spa.
