Now filled with artisanal wonder, the home sits nestled among wildflowers, olive and almond trees, and over 26 000 square feet of nature reserve. To honour the beauty of the natural surroundings, the garden has been landscaped by Lisbon-based Sigmetum so the wild seeds can grow to continually mirror the untamed beauty of Algarve.

But this home isn’t just beautiful – even though it is exceptionally so – it is no more than a twenty minute drive from some of the most breathtaking beaches, and even closer to world class golf courses. Spend the day in the sea or on the green and when you need a supply run, find stores and restaurants only five minutes away in Santa Barbara de Nexe.

Back home, we suggest barefoot explorations of every room so you can feel the cool concrete under your feet as you admire the textures and shades of the space. From the dining table, as you nurse a cup of coffee, you can watch the sun filter in through the window and cast geometric shadows across the room.

In the pleasant market town of Loulé, this apartment is ideal for a family seeking an authentic Algarve escape. The patio was the first thing that caught our eye – with its barbecue, it's perfect for alfresco meals in the shade. Talking of eating, there's also the well-equipped kitchen, and there's plenty of eateries within walking distance too. At capacity, two guests will be using the living area's sofa bed, so space might be a little tight. Luckily, Loulé offers plenty of reasons to be out exploring, and you can take a bus directly to the coast in less than an hour.

From here, it’s just a three-minute drive to the village of Santa Barbara de Nexe, while Quinta do Lago beach is just a twenty-minute drive away.

Just about a kilometre from the nearest sandy beach of Praia do Cavalo Preto, you will find this striking holiday villa in the quintessential Portuguese town of Quarteira. 

We love how this home brings the outside in and, indeed, the inside out – thanks in part to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows that fill the living spaces with light and provide direct access to the garden and its outdoor kitchen with dining table, laid-back seating area, and shaded terraces that are perfect for getting out of the sun and into a good book. 

In the summer months in particular, the carefully designed exterior spaces of the property are all about comfortable outdoor living – and we think you'll be amazed and just how much time you can spend outside when you have all the facilities you could need (not to mention that glorious Portuguese sun blazing triumphantly overhead). 

One of the best bits of this home has got to be that swimming pool. Tiled in a myriad of tiny mosaic tiles, the shades of which span from light turquoise to deep teal and so emulate the colours of the glistening Meditteranean Sea, and offering steps down into its refreshing waters, we think the prospect of a dip is simply too good to resist. Slide into the pool for the perfect morning wake-up call, before drying off in the sun and rejoining everyone else for breakfast to start the day off the right way. 

Does today feel like a beach day? Or perhaps you'd rather amble into Quarteira or the other small towns that dot the hills here to check out some of the cafés, restaurants, and shops. Golfers, rejoice! The fabulous clubs of Val de Lobo, Vilamoura, and Quinto do Lago are just around 5 kilometres away, so you can look forward to teeing off on some of the finest courses the Algarve has to offer. Those with a hankering for unspoilt nature are in luck too, as the Parque Natura da Ria Formosa Nature Reserve is closeby and just waiting to be explored.

As you'd anticipate from such an upmarket location, the home is glorious. It certainly makes quite the first impression thanks to a full-height entrance hall, complete with a chandelier and grand marble staircase leading up to the main en-suite bedroom. Stood beneath the chandelier, you'll find your eye drawn to the living room and pool area beyond – perfect for a refreshing swim at any time of the day. 

Despite its regal and luxurious air, the villa also manages to feel homey and relaxed. This is a place where a family can dine, lounge and chat together for hours, enjoying the Algarve's year-round sunshine. At the end of the day, make your way to any of the four bedrooms. Each one feels as though it was tailor-made for pampering and relaxation.

You'll be staying just fifteen kilometres from Faro, so you can easily drop by for a spot of sightseeing, and if you want to nip over to Spain for a day trip, the national parks near the port city of Huelva are a little over an hour away.

Equipped with an array of gadgetry that would give Goldfinger a run for his money, the quirky kitchen boasts countertop grilling stations on a central circular island that looks as though it was lifted straight out of a space station. There is also a funky corner booth that's perfect for sitting down with a cup of coffee and the morning paper. 

Step outside and you'll find a huge garden centred around a stunning swimming pool, given an extra layer of grandeur courtesy of the pillars that surround it on three sides and around which the house wraps itself. With plenty of shaded seating areas as well as sun loungers and an authentic wood-fired churrasco, the garden provides the perfect place to relax and unwind – until it's time to entertain, party, and socialise. It's giving us major 1970s Palm Springs vibes, and we can just imagine the scene being immortalised in a Slim Adams print. 

In a family-friendly neighbourhood by the sea, the home is located 900 metres from the sandy beach of Praia do Cavalo Preto sand beach and a kilometre from the fantastically golden sands of Forte Novo. In the local area, you will have your pick of restaurants serving everything from traditional chicken piri-piri and other regional specialties made with fresh local produce, to Asian fusion, and seafood pulled from the waters around the town.

While it can sleep three guests, with one on the sofa bed, it’s worth noting that it’s an open space – for this reason, we think it’s better suited to a couple or small family who don’t mind sharing. That said, with Vilamoura beach and golf courses galore nearby, along with the communal pool to cool off in the heat, you’re bound to be out and about most days.

The Algarve is famous for its cove beaches, fantastic climate, and quaint, coastal towns. While you could spend every day lazing on the golden shores and sipping chilled glasses of vinho verde, this apartment offers altogether more exciting options. Less than 2 km from the Praia de Vale do Lobo (your nearest beach), the home is located within a championship golf course and beach resort. Meaning while you’re here, you’ll have access to the resort bus and pool, plus golf courses, a spa, fitness centre, tennis court, and watersports facilities. On top of this, your host will be on hand to arrange anything you fancy, from day trips to private, in-house chefs.
