Not only are you close to restaurants, nightlife and shops in the city centre, but you're also a mere two-minute walk from Praia Grande beach. You'd never be able to tell this home's history from the sleek and modern interiors. There's plenty of room, but we think it's a tight fit for all sixteen guests – especially since some of the bedrooms are on the smaller side. Outside is a sparkling pool and alfresco dining space. Why book a single apartment when you can reserve the whole building instead? That's the question prompted by this colossal address on the Algarve, which comprises of eleven separate homes on the same site.

It's a great option for families or couples travelling together as part of a larger group, as each unit has its own lounge, kitchen and private terrace. With its sandstone sea cliffs and horseshoe-shaped bay, it's easy to see why it's regarded as one of the Algarve's best beaches. Beyond the beach, plenty of visitors to the area make the short trip to the remarkable Benagil Cave by boat or head along the coast to take in the finest natural scenery the Algarve has to offer, hiking the clifftop Sete Vales trail.

Aside from time spent relaxing at the seaside-chic villa, the outside area of the town provides sailing boat rental, canoeing, and a bustling village square with local fare and fishermen showcasing the catch of the day.

Around this region of Portugal, you can’t move for secluded sandy bays, hidden between honey-hued cliffs. The sun shines year-round and this modern, sleek villa means making the most of days outdoors. Let’s start with the swimming pool, shimmering like a jewel in the wooden deck. From here, you can look out to sea and realise how close you are to the beach (a ten-minute walk). Sofas, loungers and a dedicated open-air gym surround the pool. But our favourite spot might be the sunken lounge beneath the wooden pergola. On the other side of the villa, you’ve got dining for the group, a second shaded outdoor lounge, a trampoline and ping pong table, so there’s enough room for everyone to spread out. Head up to the rooftop terrace for the perfect sunset view. 

Walls of glass cast the open living area in sunlight inside and chefs will be happy in the monochrome kitchen where all mod cons are on hand to help make a memorable feast. Choose between the grand, slate-grey sofas to unwind in the open social space, or tuck yourself away in the second sitting room with a good book. There’s a dedicated office room too should you need to work remotely. Bedrooms have been set up with families in mind, with guitar-strewn twins for teenagers, toy-filled singles for younger kids and a lavish master with its own private balcony for parents.

Tucked away in Silves in the Algarve region, a short drive from Marinha Beach and within walking distance of the historic castle and town centre, this apartment is a modern pad for couples or small families. While some areas of the home are a little compact, you’ll find everything you need to feel right at home. If you’re planning to travel as a group of four, keep in mind two people will be sleeping on the sofa bed in the living area.

The interiors are light and roomy, too, but we're not sure you'll be spending much time indoors when there's a large shared garden and swimming pool on offer. On top of this, the resort of Portimão, with its shops, restaurants and bars, is a short stroll away, as is the lovely sandy beach, Praia do Amado. Or, history lovers can hop in the car and visit the nearby Roman ruins of Quinta da Abicada.

If you're looking for some of Europe's finest beaches then this charming villa in the beautiful wine region of Caramujeira, just a short drive from Praia da Marinha and Praia de Benagil is right on the money. Inside, it's traditional and stylish. There's a considered use of homely touches, from the whicker decor and local photography to the antique urn and small stove fireplace, so you'll feel right at home from the get-go. 

Now, correct us if we're wrong, but summer in the Algarve is best spent outdoors. And, at this pretty villa, you'll have a choice of several outdoor sitting and dining areas to bask in the warm weather. While away sun-soaked afternoons in the hammock, sip poncha cocktails on the sun loungers, and fire up the barbecue in the outdoor kitchen for a lazy lunch on the shady terrace.
