Despite the home’s recent renovation in 2021, the traditional touches of a terracotta tiled roof, original gas burner, and Portuguese-style tiles were kept. It’s been beautifully done to suit both a modern and traditional preference, respecting its roots while providing a contemporary level of comfort. The kitchen is a perfect example of this – top-notch appliances are met with rustic surfaces and shelves, embodying the bohemian spirit of Comporta. If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

The more athletic among you can have a game of tennis at the on-site court. This home is located between Lisbon and Lagos. Make sure you explore the dramatic beaches that make up the Algarve coast.

With three twin bedrooms, one double, and two extra sleeping places in the communal areas of the home, we think it would be ideal for extended family groups or a friends' getaway, whilst its prime location close to the restaurants, bars, and cafés of this part of Albufeira – as well as just 500 metres from the nearest sandy beach – make it a great base for a special holiday in the Algarvian sun. 

Start your day with a dip in the inviting turquoise waters of the swimming pool as the scent of the lemon trees warming in the sun begins to hang heavier in the air, before enjoying a leisurely breakfast on one of the numerous terraces. Perhaps you'll go to the beach, or into town to check out the shops and sample some of the fresh seafood delicacies on offer. Or maybe you'll finally make a dent in that book. No matter how your day pans out, come together in the evening by the traditional wood-fired barbecue to enjoy a homecooked feast of delectable local produce picked up from a local supermarket. 

One of our favourites has got to be the flavourful chicken piri-piri from this region. So why not try to replicate those spicy, savoury flavours before grilling it to perfection –yourself? Though you could always just head down towards the strip and get a taste of the real thing if you've hung up your chef's hat for the week...

You'll find this home between the charming villages of Burgau and Luz. Close to sandy beaches, cobbled streets and fishermen's cottages, this condominium is perfectly placed for discovering all that the Algarve has to offer.

You'll have not one but three separate pools here, giving you the luxury of choice when it comes to cooling off after a day on the coast. The first is completely private, whilst the other two form part of the resort's spa. There's also a communal gym, Jacuzzi and sauna – we recommend starting your morning here to set you up for the day ahead.

Spend time surfing, exploring rock pools or even catching a boat to Lagos from the harbour – there are plenty of ways to discover this beautiful part of the world and soak up the glorious weather.  

After a busy day, pick up some local food and head home to enjoy the private patio. The garden is a relaxing spot to spend an evening, with comfy sun loungers and space to unwind.
