Situated near one of Portugal’s oldest towns, this home offers peace and tranquillity. There are plenty of grounds to explore, including a pond (our favourite area), mature woodland and numerous paths leading into the countryside. Alternatively, simply unwind next to the private pool or admire the enchanting garden views from the veranda of the main house and the cottage.

This place is ideal for a large group of friends or family – there’s a charming separate cottage with a twin bedroom and kitchenette too, which provides a perfect space for those in search of a tad more privacy. If you love traditional interiors, then you’re in luck – from the grandfather clock in the dining room to the farmhouse-style kitchen and antique beds, this home is full of old-world character.

Nestled in a wonderful rural landscape, there’s plenty to see and do. Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal’s most historic towns, with its ornate squares, cobbled alleyways, and vast riverside Monday market, is just 13 kilometres away. The country’s only national park, the mountainous nature reserve of Peneda Geres National Park, is just a forty-minute drive away and offers prehistoric remains and walking trails, as well as golden eagles, deer and wolves – oh my.


White Water Lillies

Nestled in the Costa Verde countryside, this stylish villa offers guests a tranquil retreat while still being just a short drive (4 km) of the port town of Caminha. Wake up to breathtaking views of the sea and Minho River, before getting up close and personal with the water yourself on a visit to the Praia de Moledo and Foz do Minho beaches. This home boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that offer a seamless transition between these inside spaces and the outside amenities, namely the walled garden with private swimming pool and bean bags perfect for sunbathing.

Moredaria

Settle into this cosy wooden cabin on the Minho coastline, ideal for a long weekend or couple's retreat. The large communal pool and children's play area offer entertainment and a refreshing break from the Portuguese sun, while the private patio boasts room to dine alfresco and work on that perfect tan. While space indoors is limited, the kitchen is fully equipped and one guest can be accommodated on the sofa bed. We think it's worth having a car here for getting around with ease, but if you don't drive, fear not. The centre of Fão is a breezy stroll away, while the golden sands of Praia de Ofir are easily reachable on foot.

Floral Field

With an address in Porto's vibrant Rua de Santa Catarina, this home is ideal if you love shopping. There are plenty of restaurants to sample, too, and an array of attractions within walking distance. We love that this home has a balcony – though the views aren't the most inspiring, it's good to have some outdoor space. There's also not much food preparation space in the compact kitchen, but it's well equipped, so you can try your hand at making some Portuguese dishes.

Reflections of Porto

Between mature trees and open grassland, this modern villa invites travellers to the quiet countryside of Caminha. Not far from Santana, the shores of Praia de Moledo offer perfect surfing conditions – so be sure to visit and give it a go.

Inside, this bright home boasts a dramatic design with floor-to-ceiling windows and giant pop art pieces. With a stripped-back interior, the space feels calm and inviting. After waking up with the natural light, you'll want to sip galão while stretching your legs on the deck.

Soak up the morning sunshine as you read a book by your private pool. Why not bake pastel de nata with your children in the kitchen? Then, head out along a hiking trail before cosying up in front of the fireplace – this home encourages everyone to reconnect with nature.

Freshen up beneath your rainfall shower ahead of dinner – you can even have the best restaurant reservations made on your behalf as one of the extra services available, so all you have to do is enjoy yourself.

Pop Art Sticks

With commanding views of the rural Douro and an infinity pool, this expansive villa is a dream holiday destination. Inside, multiple balconies and windows mean those stunning views are always in sight. 

The home has five bedrooms, each with their own bathroom, a dedicated kid’s pool and gardens – it's the ideal base for families travelling together. The interior is bright and offers plenty of space to relax and enjoy communal meals and movie nights.  

Days begin with pasteis de nata on the terrace – the hosts drop off fresh baked goods for breakfast every morning – followed by lazy hours by the pool with a book in hand. If you can prise yourself away from your lounger, the surrounding area is fine hiking territory. 

Sunsets here are show-stoppers, so make sure you’re back in time for a cold glass on the terrace as the sky turns every shade of orange and red. Round off with a night-time dip in the pool under a sky full of stars to make the most of every minute in this Portuguese oasis.

Pilot Star

Secluded yet conveniently located, this stylish single-story villa in Moledo is the perfect pick for a family or small group of friends looking for privacy and comfort, without being too far from sandy beaches and charming towns. Mornings begin with laps in the private pool, before drying off on a sun lounger as you gaze out to the unspoilt landscape surrounding the home. 

Stepping inside, you'll immediately notice the modern touch that's been given to the villa – from the pop art adorning the walls to the patterned rugs and string lighting. Mastering indoor-outdoor living, the interiors benefit from a vast casement window and sliding glass doors that invite sunlight into the living area and keep the picturesque views at the forefront of the home.

Enjoy cooking for your group in the sleek marble kitchen, or alternatively, you can grill up alfresco meals on the barbecue outside. Sink into the squishy bean bag with your holiday read, soaking up the warm weather. Both bedrooms benefit from large glass doors opening onto the front decking, so you start each day with a spring in your step, ready to explore. 

When it's time to head out, you're fifteen minutes on foot from Caminha's sandy beaches and its old roman town, with excellent restaurants, cafes, bars, lively promenades and open-air esplanades around the Minho river's waterfront. If you're looking for more, catch the daily ferry boat out to the ruins of the fort of Ínsua in a matter of minutes, or drive to the beaches and historic town of Viana do Castelo, just 35 kilometres away. 

A Private View

With its long stretch of wild and beautiful beaches, the northern coast of Portugal is a haven for sun-seekers and surf lovers. And just a short drive from Moledo beach (one of the region's most renowned destinations), this villa provides the perfect setting for a dreamy coastal getaway.

Nestled within a sanctuary of trees and offering views across the Minho river, you’ll find this home is designed with your comfort in mind. The light and airy rooms are complimented by minimalist furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows, while the peaceful bedrooms set the tone for total relaxation. 

Follow the views outside, and you’ll find the garden welcoming you to enjoy lazy days by the pool, relaxing sunset drinks and al fresco meals that linger long into the evening. 

From here, it’s just a twenty-minute walk to the nearest mini-market, while the charming old Roman Town of Caminha (just a short drive or energising walk away) boasts a lively promenade with an abundant selection of restaurants, cafes and bars – perfect for connecting with the authentic spirit of the region. And for explorations further afield, the coast is brimming with opportunities for hiking, cycling, wine-tasting and simply admiring the natural beauty of Portugal. 

Velvet Moon

This carefully renovated country house, where old and new seamlessly combine, provides you with everything you could need for an unforgettable stay in this picturesque part of northern Portugal. 

Inside, you'll find a calming palette of neutral tones, accented with restored original stone features, while outside a range of inviting seating areas put together with comfort in mind await you. Then of course there is that lovely lawn (perfect for a picnic or for any little ones to play on), the beautiful swimming pool that's simply made for sun-drenched afternoons, and even a mini football pitch and volleyball net for those who feel like getting active. If you fancy firing up some more friendly competition, there's also table tennis that's sure to get everyone involved. 

For something extra special, you can arrange cooking classes at the home – ideal if you would like to try your hand at replicating Portuguese specialties (and the well-equipped kitchen or typical outdoor churrasco provides the perfect place to do so). As evening turns to night, grab a chilled glass of regional Vinho Verde, head out to the terrace and listen to the sounds of the cicadas as the mouthwatering cooking smells begin to fill the air.

Red Stone

We're utterly in love with this reimagined farmhouse-style property located just outside of the idyllic old fishing village of Esposende. From its sunny yellow facade complete with quaint panelled windows and traditional terracotta roof tiles to its elegant interior that retains many of its original, rustic features – not to mention the beautiful modern step-down swimming pool – we think it offers something truly unique and special for your holiday in this often-overlooked part of Portugal.

The indoor spaces of this home feel impressive and grand, and yet manage to exude a kind of homely warmth that's welcoming and comfortable. The bedrooms, in particular, are a favourite of ours. Awake as the gentle morning light begins to seep in through those large French windows with stained glass detailing and feel immediately enveloped in the majesty of these rooms, as the high ceilings and gorgeous furnishings create a sense of luxury. Coffee out on the terrace anyone? 

The living and dining rooms, too, have an undeniable opulence, giving off an irresistible old-world glamour. Make the most of the sense of occassion by coming together for a special meal, or simply enjoying one another's company in the effortless serenity of these spaces.

When you do fancy getting out of the villa, then you'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do in the local area. Explore the local town of Esposende where you will find fantastic fish restaurants serving up the freshest seafood. Or, make the short 30-minute drive to the historic city of Oporto – the centre of which is classified as a World Heritage Site. The sand beaches of this part of the Portuguese coastline are under four kilometres away too, so grab the suncream and a beach towel and get out there for a day of sun, sea, and unbridled relaxation (as well as some high-octane watersports if you like). In the mood for more activity? Then there is both golf and horse riding on offer in the local area.

A Farmhouse with Finesse

A stay in this modern villa combines rural relaxation and keeping active all at once. Those that like to stick to a fitness schedule (or those that just want to splash about) can make use of the private indoor swimming pool, lined with loungers. There’s a saltwater sauna for afters, or perhaps you just want to head up to the terrace for a sundowner. On the same site, you’ll find a state-of-the-art gym, football field and tennis court too. There’s an element of fun to this home as well, with a children’s play park in the grounds and a full-size snooker table in one of the lounges.

That’s right, “one of” the lounges. There are three to choose from inside – the grand, chandeliered main lounge set around a fireplace, a snug with an upright piano for a sing-along, and the laid-back games room with its own bar. Bedrooms are spacious and retain an air of class with dark wood headboards. Our favourite has to be the wood-clad bedroom with trinkets and curios scattered across built-in shelves.

In terms of location, you’re in the rural area just outside Porto, yet just a fifteen-minute drive to the restaurants, historic sights and buzzing nightlife of the city centre. If you fancy a day at the beach, Arcozelo is just a ten-minute drive away.  

The Athlete's Prime

There’s no price for guessing what the city of Porto is famous for. However, you may be surprised to find that this fortified wine begins its life far from the city, in the vineyards found upstream and on either side of the river Douro, and it’s here where you’ll find this eye-catching villa. Overlooking the slopes of Portugal’s wine region, this home boasts panoramic views that are almost impossible to tear your eyes away from. At sunset, make a beeline for the infinity pool that stretches out across the width of the house. There’s a second heated swimming pool to the side, best reached through the open-plan living and dining room. Take a dip beneath a starlit sky or sunbathe during the day. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and windows can be found from the kitchen to the three bedrooms, effortlessly bridging the indoors and outside. The best views can be found from the balcony on the first floor. Since this area has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status, you’ll find that there’s plenty of exploring and hiking to do. But there’s also fun to be had at home on a rainy afternoon – challenge the group to a championship of billiards and table football and may the best team win.
