It’s a short distance to the powdery sands of Praia de Afife, the border between Spain’s Galicia, the adventure-packed rivers of the Rio Lima estuary and the countryside hiking trails in the Lima valley.

Inside, the space is dominated by an expansive, wooden-beamed living area where you’ll find an elegant dining table for sharing bacalhau fish stew dinners and a contemporary lounge boasting ambient lighting for cosy nights in sharing aperitifs. The sleek kitchen has plenty of prep space, courtesy of a glossy island, which keeps the space social. A second dining room leads off the kitchen and out onto the patio – we’ll be honest, this one’s our favourite – perfect for alfresco dinners together under pink-hued sunsets.

Staying outside, there are plenty of spaces for every member to unwind. The patio is decked out with lounge chairs, perfect for soaking up the sun before plunging into the pristine pool for a cooling dip. We have to say we think the garden is the ideal spot to begin mornings over fresh coffee and locally bought pastéis de nata and to end evenings with caipirinha cocktails under the starlit sky.

This sprawling villa was designed with the coastal view in mind – and with three sun-kissed terraces to choose from, you'll have plenty of spots to revel in the scenery. Begin the morning with a refreshing swim in the private pool, then sprawl out on lounge chairs for a snooze in the afternoon rays. Sunsets here are simply sublime, and we think the best place to appreciate them is the roof terrace. As the day draws to a close, gaze out at the Atlantic Ocean shimmering on the horizon – a glass of Vinho Verde in hand. 

Inside, the glossy kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up a feast – although we think the outdoor kitchen and alfresco dining space will be hard to resist. Your hosts have thought of everything here, from a ping-pong table downstairs to a food lift ready to cart your meals from one floor to the next. You can lounge about on the sofa with a book from the host's collection, play a board game around the table or retreat to the four cosy bedrooms for a good night's sleep. 

When you're ready to venture out, Moledo's expansive beach is only a few kilometres away. A hotspot for surfing, you'll love dipping your toes in the Atlantic and feeling the sand between your toes. Your host can also arrange various tours, wine-tasting experiences and private chefs specialising in traditional Portuguese dishes to make your stay here extra special.

This restored farmhouse sits in the nature-rich Portuguese region of Minho, encircled by valleys, sparkling rivers, plenty of cycling routes, and historical towns. You get a beautiful slice of that breathtaking nature from your countryside oasis. 

Whether you’re playing football on the soft grass, admiring the view from the terrace, or listening to the birds chatter while lying around the pool, nature is all around. You’re even welcomed by bougainvillea and cypress trees as you approach the stone brick home.

You’ll first notice the home’s traditional façade. Made up of three houses, two of which have long histories – the main house was a baker's, and the annexe, now a games room, was a distillery. Make use of the original bread and pizza oven for unforgettable meals, and whittle away evenings playing pool and drinking local wine. 

There’s plenty to keep you entertained here, but perhaps all you really want is to catch up on your book beside the pool. Let the hours drift by, breathing in the fresh country air while topping up your tan. Come dusk, the place to be is your balcony – nothing beats watching the sun dip into the sea. 

When it’s time to explore, you’re less than a mile from Afife and its beachy cafes, surf shops, seafood restaurants, and long stretch of sugary white sand. When you’re not catching waves or relaxing on the beach, hop on a hiking trail to one of the nearby waterfalls and discover the rugged mountain range.

It sits just above the sands of Playa Silgar – and trust us, when we say you'll spend every minute soaking up the scenery, we mean it. Mornings here begin with a cup of coffee on the terrace, listening to the waves and watching the tide roll in, while nights end with a glass of Cava as the sun slowly dips below the horizon. With the Atlantic Ocean stretched out before you and the lively beach just below, we can't think of anything dreamier – in our opinion, it's the quintessential seaside getaway.

Even when watching Netflix in the living room, you can still make the most of the jaw-dropping views thanks to the glass doors. The design is the essence of coastal chic – think oak beams on the ceilings, copper light fixtures and every shade of blue imaginable. We particularly love the ivy-covered fireplace, the traditional Spanish tiles in the bathrooms and the rustic kitchen stocked with all the cookware you'll need.

We're utterly in love with this reimagined farmhouse-style property located just outside of the idyllic old fishing village of Esposende. From its sunny yellow facade complete with quaint panelled windows and traditional terracotta roof tiles to its elegant interior that retains many of its original, rustic features – not to mention the beautiful modern step-down swimming pool – we think it offers something truly unique and special for your holiday in this often-overlooked part of Portugal.

The indoor spaces of this home feel impressive and grand, and yet manage to exude a kind of homely warmth that's welcoming and comfortable. The bedrooms, in particular, are a favourite of ours. This magical home in a stunning rural location has to be seen to be believed. Nestled in the Minho region of northern Portugal, it's around an hour from Porto, with the city of Braga just 10 miles away, but all you'll see here are green hills in every direction. 

Set on a hillside, your home has incredible gardens that go up and up, at one point disappearing into woodland. With a number of lawns and terraces, as well as a beautiful private pool and terrace, you won't be short of outside space – or somewhere for some quiet reading away from the group.

Inside, this traditional home has bags of character, with exposed stone walls, an eclectic mix of statement furniture and plenty of colourful wall art. A cosy living room features a log burner for the cooler months and there's a practical kitchen with all the mod-cons. And here you can choose to eat at the antique dining table indoors or out on the beautiful covered terrace. A car is a necessity here, but the charming towns of Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo are both a short drive away.

Fitting, as this spot in Peso da Regua is famous for its picturesque countryside and ancient vineyards. While the interiors certainly aren't as eye-catching as the surrounding scenery, each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and larger groups have the option to add five extra beds to sleep up to fifteen guests.
