Inside, the space is dominated by an expansive, wooden-beamed living area where you’ll find an elegant dining table for sharing bacalhau fish stew dinners and a contemporary lounge boasting ambient lighting for cosy nights in sharing aperitifs. The sleek kitchen has plenty of prep space, courtesy of a glossy island, which keeps the space social. A second dining room leads off the kitchen and out onto the patio – we’ll be honest, this one’s our favourite – perfect for alfresco dinners together under pink-hued sunsets.

Staying outside, there are plenty of spaces for every member to unwind. The patio is decked out with lounge chairs, perfect for soaking up the sun before plunging into the pristine pool for a cooling dip. We have to say we think the garden is the ideal spot to begin mornings over fresh coffee and locally bought pastéis de nata and to end evenings with caipirinha cocktails under the starlit sky.

This sprawling villa was designed with the coastal view in mind – and with three sun-kissed terraces to choose from, you'll have plenty of spots to revel in the scenery. Sunsets here are simply sublime, and we think the best place to appreciate them is the roof terrace. Inside, the glossy kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up a feast – although we think the outdoor kitchen and alfresco dining space will be hard to resist. Your hosts have thought of everything here, from a ping-pong table downstairs to a food lift ready to cart your meals from one floor to the next. You can lounge about on the sofa with a book from the host's collection, play a board game around the table or retreat to the four cosy bedrooms for a good night's sleep. 

When you're ready to venture out, Moledo's expansive beach is only a few kilometres away. A hotspot for surfing, you'll love dipping your toes in the Atlantic and feeling the sand between your toes. This restored farmhouse sits in the nature-rich Portuguese region of Minho, encircled by valleys, sparkling rivers, plenty of cycling routes, and historical towns. You get a beautiful slice of that breathtaking nature from your countryside oasis. 

Whether you’re playing football on the soft grass, admiring the view from the terrace, or listening to the birds chatter while lying around the pool, nature is all around. You’re even welcomed by bougainvillea and cypress trees as you approach the stone brick home.

You’ll first notice the home’s traditional façade. Made up of three houses, two of which have long histories – the main house was a baker's, and the annexe, now a games room, was a distillery. Make use of the original bread and pizza oven for unforgettable meals, and whittle away evenings playing pool and drinking local wine. 

There’s plenty to keep you entertained here, but perhaps all you really want is to catch up on your book beside the pool. Let the hours drift by, breathing in the fresh country air while topping up your tan. Come dusk, the place to be is your balcony – nothing beats watching the sun dip into the sea. 

When it’s time to explore, you’re less than a mile from Afife and its beachy cafes, surf shops, seafood restaurants, and long stretch of sugary white sand. When you’re not catching waves or relaxing on the beach, hop on a hiking trail to one of the nearby waterfalls and discover the rugged mountain range.

Evenings can be spent sweating away the stress in your private sauna, replicating Portuguese favourites in the traditional covered outdoor churrasco, or simply absorbing every aspect of that phenomenal panoramic vista with a glass of Vinho Verde in hand. There’s no price for guessing what the city of Porto is famous for. However, you may be surprised to find that this fortified wine begins its life far from the city, in the vineyards found upstream and on either side of the river Douro, and it’s here where you’ll find this eye-catching villa. Overlooking the slopes of Portugal’s wine region, this home boasts panoramic views that are almost impossible to tear your eyes away from. At sunset, make a beeline for the infinity pool that stretches out across the width of the house. There’s a second heated swimming pool to the side, best reached through the open-plan living and dining room. Take a dip beneath a starlit sky or sunbathe during the day. Floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and windows can be found from the kitchen to the three bedrooms, effortlessly bridging the indoors and outside. The best views can be found from the balcony on the first floor. Since this area has been granted UNESCO World Heritage status, you’ll find that there’s plenty of exploring and hiking to do. But there’s also fun to be had at home on a rainy afternoon – challenge the group to a championship of billiards and table football and may the best team win.

It sits just above the sands of Playa Silgar – and trust us, when we say you'll spend every minute soaking up the scenery, we mean it. Mornings here begin with a cup of coffee on the terrace, listening to the waves and watching the tide roll in, while nights end with a glass of Cava as the sun slowly dips below the horizon. With the Atlantic Ocean stretched out before you and the lively beach just below, we can't think of anything dreamier – in our opinion, it's the quintessential seaside getaway.

Even when watching Netflix in the living room, you can still make the most of the jaw-dropping views thanks to the glass doors. The design is the essence of coastal chic – think oak beams on the ceilings, copper light fixtures and every shade of blue imaginable. We particularly love the ivy-covered fireplace, the traditional Spanish tiles in the bathrooms and the rustic kitchen stocked with all the cookware you'll need. 

Sanxenxo is a lively resort, home to many mouth-watering restaurants serving fresh-caught seafood, boutique shops and trendy bars. With the beach, coastal paths and eateries aplenty on your doorstep, some fun in the Spanish sun is a guarantee.

We're utterly in love with this reimagined farmhouse-style property located just outside of the idyllic old fishing village of Esposende. From its sunny yellow facade complete with quaint panelled windows and traditional terracotta roof tiles to its elegant interior that retains many of its original, rustic features – not to mention the beautiful modern step-down swimming pool – we think it offers something truly unique and special for your holiday in this often-overlooked part of Portugal.

The indoor spaces of this home feel impressive and grand, and yet manage to exude a kind of homely warmth that's welcoming and comfortable. The bedrooms, in particular, are a favourite of ours. Awake as the gentle morning light begins to seep in through those large French windows with stained glass detailing and feel immediately enveloped in the majesty of these rooms, as the high ceilings and gorgeous furnishings create a sense of luxury. Set on a hillside, your home has incredible gardens that go up and up, at one point disappearing into woodland. With a number of lawns and terraces, as well as a beautiful private pool and terrace, you won't be short of outside space – or somewhere for some quiet reading away from the group.

Nestled in a wonderful rural landscape, there’s plenty to see and do. The home is set on a 210-acre wine estate – you'll have nothing to disturb you here but the odd worker roaming the fields and vineyards. Inside, the traditional features may not be to everyone's taste, but if you ask us, the outside area is by far the home's biggest draw. From the dining terrace to the private swimming pool and garden, you'll have ample space to bask in the Portuguese sunshine and remote setting. A car is a necessity here, but the charming towns of Ponte de Lima and Viana do Castelo are both a short drive away.

Surrounded by well-maintained lawns and terraces, this charming family home in O Barro is in a lovely location to explore the Spanish countryside. The house features some great amenities such as a large first-floor terrace with picturesque views of the area, a private pool and ping-pong table. For day trips, take an eight-minute drive to visit the spa town of Mondariz Balneario, where you'll find some restaurants, scenic footpaths and a sandy beach with sheltered waters for swimming. If you fancy spending the day by the seaside, Cesantes is just a forty-minute car ride away.
