With a fantastic location, just a three-minute walk to the picturesque neighbourhood of Bairro Alto, a culinary hotspot, this stylish apartment has a wealth of bars, restaurants and historic architecture right on its doorstep. If you fancy a bit of retail therapy, on the other hand, Chiado with its chic boutiques, is only a ten-minute stroll away. You can even walk to some of the city’s iconic attractions such as Lisbon Cathedral, São Jorge Castle and Miradouro Portas do Sol in under thirty minutes. If you don’t fancy exploring on foot, the famous Tram 28 passes through the district, while the Glória Funicular is just over a five-minute saunter. Or, to get the most out of your trip, let the concierge organise tickets and experiences for you. Back at this modern home – there’s a lot we adore about this place, from the wooden floors and inspirational quotes to the gorgeous bathroom and little windows with cute shutters. The host, Patrícia, has also made a lighting scheme which creates a warm atmosphere – it’s easy to see that she has a love of design. So, relax with a glass of wine at the dining table and enjoy a Portuguese feast. With this home, you can really live like a Lisboeta.

This beautifully bright apartment between Lisbon's Chiado and Alfama neighbourhoods has it all – a great location and a blend of modern styling and character features. Summing up this historic part of Lisbon perfectly, it's in a typical Pombalina building – freshly renovated with impeccable attention to detail. If local period architecture is of interest to you, you'll love the high, ornately decorated ceilings, the tall windows and the traditional narrow balcony with wrought iron railings. And it's not too hard to spot the building's defining feature – the Pombalina wooden cage built in to strengthen the stone buildings after the great earthquake of the 1750s. Bright and smartly designed, this charming home has been reimagined for the 21st century, with a cool black kitchen, mid-century modern furniture and tasteful wall art. Comfortable and welcoming, you'll spend your mornings sipping coffee, watching the street come to life from your balcony. The two bedrooms are pared-back yet elegantly dressed, while the two spa-like bathrooms with their rainfall showers are a treat to wake up to each morning. Sitting just a three-minute walk from lively Pink Street and a stone’s throw from the Douro River, this design-focused apartment offers a stylish stay in Lisbon’s cultural and historic heart. 
 
It’s hard to choose our favourite feature here – from the living room’s curved bubble sofa to the leaf-print walls and the grand dining table with its jewel-tone velvet seats, there’s an air of modern sophistication here that reflects the city’s eclecticism. Ample natural light pours in through the living area’s arched French doors that give way to pretty Juliet balconies with views of the street below. Perch here with your evening glass of Portuguese wine when you’re not out sampling Pink Street’s famous nightlife, and end the night with a deliciously comfortable sleep in the blue and green bedrooms. Factor in the pair of bathrooms with their relaxing rainfall showers, and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, discover Pink Street’s many bars and eateries nearby, or make a beeline for Praça do Comércio, a ten-minute walk away. You’re also a six-minute stroll from the popular Time Out Market, a ten-minute walk from the Santa Justa Lift, and the Alfama district is twenty minutes away on foot. One of Lisbon's best qualities is the fact it's sunny for ten months per year, so we'd like to believe that the view of the Tejo river from the balcony is always this majestic. While this feature might be what draws you in, there's plenty else about this home to enchant you. 

This modern space is located right above the Sé Cathedral, with the dynamic neighbourhood of Alfama – one of the oldest in the city – on your doorstep. In line with the historical location, the interior design contains nods to traditional Portugueses architecture, but the sleek minimalist furniture brings it into the twenty-first century.

Beyond Alfama, this home is the perfect base to explore Lisbon's top sights. Praça do Comércio, the yellow-flanked square you've seen on all the postcards, is a mere ten-minute walk away. Sip cocktails in the afternoon heat then walk along the waterfront to watch the sunset. Sounds pretty dreamy to us.

Balsa

With an impressive selection of museums, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants all close by, it's easy to see why this sunny home in the heart of Lisbon is so popular. As it's on the sixth floor with beautiful big windows, it does get a little toasty in the summer months. But the view from the open-plan living room overlooking the Tagus River below is truly breathtaking. We loved the Brigitte Bardot portrait and sporadic placement of bright prints and sculptures. 

Sugar Rush

Stay in a classical Pombaline building, with architecture reminiscent of the city’s reconstruction period after the Great Earthquake of 1755. While the outside is traditional, and you can see the traces of history in the painted wooden frames and stone niches inside, you’ll find this home to be utterly contemporary – especially when it comes to its striking art collection. The living area is bright and open-concept, with the sofa and TV area seamlessly blending with the sleek dining table and kitchen. The bedrooms have long beautiful windows to let the morning light in when you wake and comfortable beds to usher you into a deep sleep after a long day on your feet. And you’re sure to spend at least some of your time exploring on foot, as well located as you are. You’ll be just a three-minute walk to the Lisbon Cathedral, eight minutes to Praça do Rossio and ten minutes to Castelo de S. Jorge. Fit in all your sightseeing, then wander the old streets of Alfama, perusing the shops and traditional restaurants that will complete a perfect Lisbon day. 

Obrigado

You’ll find this rather dapper apartment right in the heart of Baixa, Lisbon’s most elegant and historic district. Housed in a carefully restored Pombaline period property, the designers have deliberately kept the apartment contemporary and sleek. 

Touches of mid-century and matt black finishes fuse perfectly with its historic surroundings, including the restored stone in the bedroom and the antique wooden salting chests. Beautiful wrought-iron Juliette balconies bathe the apartment in natural light and reveal impressive views of the city, River Tagus and São Jorge Castle in the distance. It's the perfect spot to perch with your morning coffee as you hatch plans for the day ahead. 

And when the city comes calling, you’re perfectly situated to explore Lisbon, with the upmarket Chiado district just ten minutes away on foot. Make sure to visit Lisbon’s biggest and most impressive food market, Mercado da Ribeira (a ten-minute walk) for a bit of lunch. Then potter over to Campo das Cebolas on the banks of the river to soak in the atmosphere of this captivating city.

With the Praça do Comércio and Tagus riverfront right on your doorstep, you'd be hard-pushed to find a better location for first-time visitors wanting to explore the city. The recently renovated building boasts a concierge and lift and new windows that do an excellent job of blocking the street noise from the busy Baixa neighbourhood outside. The living room’s bold artwork and striking petrol blue velvet sofas work well with the bright and open space. Step out, and you'll find yourself right in the heart of Lisbon's most central and liveliest neighbourhood, with some of the city's most exciting shops and cafes right on your doorstep. Just around the corner, you'll find the elegant Praça do Comércio. Elsewhere, you'll find the beautiful gothic ruins of Convento do Carmo, sumptuous food at Time Out Market, and the fascination Museu do Fado no more than fifteen minutes away. Finally, for breathtaking views over the city's terracotta roofs, hop on the iconic number 28 tram and trundle through Alfama and up to the hilltop neighbourhood of Graça.
