This split-level home has been built with comfort in mind, but it hasn't forgotten about the atmosphere – the dining and the open-plan kitchen work well together both style-wise and as a central hub for socialising. The living room is on the smaller side, but we loved the mezzanine level bedroom and the vaulted ceiling. Located on the edge of Alfama, Some Like it Tiled is mere minutes away from both Sé Cathedral and Praça do Comércio and will provide you with an excellent starting point for your urban exploration.

The Lagoon is a minimalist haven. It’s within walking distance to Praça do Comércio and many of Baixa’s liveliest spots. This home isn’t for travellers expecting the a very personal experience,  but it’s comfortable, and we like that the communal area is so bright. It exudes Scandinavian elegance while retaining some of that Lisbon charm, with the balcony, decorative tiles in the bathroom, and stucco ceilings.

Down by Lisbon’s waterfront, this apartment is surrounded by chi chi little bars, trendy eateries and all the beguiling attractions of the city centre. Walk less than ten minutes to reach the narrow, bar-stuffed streets of Bairro Alto, or make the eight-minute stroll to the dramatic ruins of Carmo Convent.

Returning to this apartment, you’re met with a vintage-chic interior. Art Nouveau rugs, an azulejo-tiled wall feature and tropical-fern-clad sofas feel as though the host has dipped into the vintage markets to decorate this place. With its Juliet balconies, frescoed walls and laid-back contemporary furnishings, there’s a feeling of history blended with a modern minimalism that feels effortlessly Portuguese. We love the kitchen’s stone sink and the sunny dining area that invites breakfasts over fresh coffee and pastéis de nata, while the bedroom is pared-back and elegant with its Juliet balcony proffering red rooftop views. With a lovely desk space at your disposal too, there will be no shortage of inspiration should business call, though, with countless things to see and do on your doorstep, we suggest less work and more play when you can. Speaking of sightseeing, the Santa Justa Lift is just a seven-minute walk away, São Jorge Castle is walkable in fifteen, while Praça do Comércio is thirteen minutes away on foot.

This home feels comfortable, high-end, and characterful. It’s hard to ask for more, but we picked it apart and here’s what we found. The Handhake's baren bones are great – this home is located inside a renovated Baixa townhouse, which has high ceilings and French windows as standard, but the host didn’t rely solely on that. There are a few nice pieces of art in here, notably the statuettes and the mirrors in the bedroom, which give it a modern look.

In the heart of Lisbon’s historic centre, this apartment is a five-minute walk to the waterside Praça do Comércio lined with shops and restaurants on the River Tagus. Winding, cobbled streets packed with bars and restaurants lead from the apartment to Castelo de S. Jorge on the hilltop, a ten-minute walk away. True to its historic surroundings, this home retains some original features of the traditional Pombaline building it’s housed in. A wooden frame from the post-earthquake reconstruction of 1755 juts out into the living room. Bold black and gold artwork has been hand-picked to complement the wooden structure. Waking up in the master bedroom is a real treat as sunlight streams through French windows, which can be opened up to create a Juliet balcony.

In the Baixa-Chiado district, you’ll be spending a lot of your time around fine seafood restaurants, classy boutiques, and 18th-century architecture. After strolling down the famed Avenida da Liberdade, ending up at the striking ruins of the Convento do Carmo, you don’t need to travel far to see the sights. This apartment is just a six-minute walk from the medieval convent, as well as every shop and cocktail bar you could need.

Similar to its locale, this home takes influence from a diverse mix of styles and centuries. Traditional Portuguese design concepts like high ceilings and bright balconies with French doors are a must, but there are also touches of Saharan style in the decor.

Admire these interiors with some ambient music on the record player, before settling on the sofa, relaxing in the neutral colour scheme of creams and greys. And this zen vibe works well alongside the other dominant organic feature – marble. We love how this elegant resource creates a luxury feel in the kitchen and both bathrooms (especially when you’re soaking in the gorgeous en-suite bathtub, a glass of douro in hand).

Now, this is how you do city living in Lisbon, folks. Exquisitely designed throughout and boasting an all-too-rare suntrap terrace, who wouldn't be happy in a pad like this.

Sunny mornings call for freshly brewed coffees and Pastel de Natas out on the terrace. Or take things indoors to rustle up something heartier in the made-for-action kitchen area while others crash out in the sophisticated living space or spill out around the dining table –⁠ there's room for you all here.

Over in the bedrooms, the designers have kept the spaces pared-back and contemporary – with just those Portuguese ceramic floor tiles adding a pop of colour and beautifully mirroring the blue skies outside. We'll let you decide who lucks out on that king-size bedroom with en-suite and direct access to the pretty courtyard.

When it's time to explore, the Bairro Alto district is right at your feet. One of the city's most emblematic neighbourhoods, this place has got it all going on. By day, lose yourself to its tangle of lanes discovering old-school cafes for tasty tapas plates and quaint vintage shops. As dusk falls over the city, grab ginjinha cocktails from hole-in-the-wall bars. Then settle down in one of its late-night bistros for authentic tapas, as the Fado folk musicians strike up.

Compact but cosy, this central apartment is a great base for exploring Lisbon. The balcony is a sweet bonus – not to mention the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastel de nata before setting off. Since it's on the third floor without a lift, this home won't suit guests who struggle with stairs. One bedroom is smaller than the other – it's a good option for kids – and the kitchen lacks an oven, so dining out will likely be on the cards. Even so, you've got a wealth of options nearby, plus you're walking distance from attractions like Praça do Comércio (twenty minutes away), Santa Justa Lift (fifteen minutes) and the Tram 28.

With an impressive selection of museums, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants all close by, it's easy to see why this sunny home in the heart of Lisbon is so popular. As it's on the sixth floor with beautiful big windows, it does get a little toasty in the summer months. But the view from the open-plan living room overlooking the Tagus River below is truly breathtaking. We loved the Brigitte Bardot portrait and sporadic placement of bright prints and sculptures.

With its exposed Gaiola wooden beams taking center stage against a backdrop of stylish Scandinavian furniture, this expertly restored Pombalinan apartment in Lisbon's busy Baixa is a real beauty. Despite being close to lively streets in Alfama, Mouraria and Praça Figueira, it's still surprisingly quiet at nighttime. The iconic Tram 28 is just a five-minute walk away, Praça do Comércio riverside ten minutes away, and a handful of fantastic museums are just a little further on from that.

Less than a five-minute stroll away from Praça do Comércio, Lisbon Cathedral and the River Tagus, this apartment is perfectly placed for exploring. Stroll down Rua Augusta with a coffee and pastry, pop in and out of the independent shops nearby or grab a bite to eat at the array of restaurants on your doorstep. Whatever you fancy – be it historical monuments or lively bars – chances are, it's within walking distance. When you're not taking advantage of this central spot, unwind back at home with a glass of wine and music playing on the Bluetooth speaker. Perch here with your evening glass of Portuguese wine when you’re not out sampling Pink Street’s famous nightlife, and end the night with a deliciously comfortable sleep in the blue and green bedrooms. Factor in the pair of bathrooms with their relaxing rainfall showers, and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay.

After a fun-packed day, head back to this lovely home with its vistas of the neighbourhood. We love the palm wallpaper here in the living room – take a seat and enjoy a glass of Portuguese wine. Or, do some yoga poses on the mats provided by your hosts. Then, later cook up some feijoada (bean stew) in the modern kitchen, or if you prefer to eat out, get ready in the marble-clad bathroom – we adore this dash of luxury.

This charming Lisbon apartment is brimming with character. Structurally, the home is amazing. We loved the high ceilings, large windows with original wooden shutters, intricate cornicing and solid walnut floorboards. There’s an eclectic collection of furniture that works well with the lavish bones of the place, creating an atmosphere that feels grand yet homely. Pour yourself a drink from the vintage mini bar and find the comfiest spot on the sofa or whip up a Portuguese dish in the well-appointed kitchen – we couldn’t help falling for the antique chimney and exposed masonry. Step outside and you’ll find yourself between Baixa and Alfama, putting you within walking distance of the city’s best attractions. You’re a mere 100 metres from Lisbon Cathedral, ten minutes from the Fado Museum and just five from the romantic Santa Luzia viewpoint.

Beautifully decorated and centrally located, this Lisbon apartment has a lot to offer. It’s great for remote workers, with a dedicated office that’s separate from the living and sleeping areas. The well-equipped kitchen and cosy decor also make this a wonderful choice for a long-term stay – you can even bring your pet. The balcony is a lovely touch, too. The views are slightly blocked by a tree, but you can always take in the quintessential Lisbon street views from the living area’s Juliet balcony. In terms of location, Avenida Liberdade and its shops, restaurants, and cafes, is close to your base in Santo António, and a stroll through Parque Eduardo VII is a must.

Le Problème

This is a small, cosy home, located right around the corner from the Sé Cathedral. It would best suit a couple of urban explorers who need a modern, central base that will allow them to move between the medieval neighbourhood of Alfama and the modern zones around Baixa-Chiado. Although the design is quite functional, we liked the touches of yellow in the living room and the azulejo tiles in the kitchen.

This is the sort of home we hope to find every time we open a front door. The style is beautiful with strong mid-century vibes, bringing Mad Men era New York to Lisbon – there's even an iconic Eames chair to recline in. There are plenty of abstract artworks to admire, a patterned rug to sink your toes into, and a slick kitchen that you can use to whip up home-cooked meals or just open the odd bottle of wine. The whole building was revamped pretty recently, which allowed the owners to put in a selection of high quality facilities and design features. The surrounding Santa Catarina neighbourhood puts you within walking distance of both Bairro Alto and Chiado, and less than fifteen minutes away from the Tagus River. And, with local restaurants, artisanal shops and those renowned Portuguese bakeries on your doorstep, you don't need to go for to get a true taste of Lisbon.

Here is an excellent base from which to explore Lisbon. You couldn’t be better placed. Right in the heart of Santos, where the trendiest of cafes and restaurants can be found. Stroll to Lisbon’s most popular historical sights. Or walk for ten minutes to catch the metro from Cais do Sodré station. Trains venture beyond the city from here too. 

This home is a clean and simple affair, with some pleasing attention to detail. The trendy wallpaper in the bedroom, for instance, adds a certain edge. As does the striking use of granite in the bathroom. Midcentury-style touches in the living area make it a home. Open up the tall glass sliding doors and let the city views in as you drink your morning coffee.

Don't be fooled by the terracotta tiling and quaint old-world exteriors of this penthouse apartment, located in the heart of the charming Bica district. Step inside, and you'll discover this Saharan-inspired home is perfectly made up for modern city living at its very best. 

Blending warm and earthy tones, abstract artwork and a fibre lantern, you'll soon feel completely relaxed in your cosy and cocooned, yet brightly-lit open-plan living space - we especially love the skylights and vaulted ceilings that create this effect. There's a dedicated desk for those visiting on business and both bedrooms benefit from stylish ensuite bathrooms. But the star of the show is your private terrace, overlooking the river mouth of Tajo – it's the best spot for a glass of wine come evening, or a coffee before setting off for the day. 

We recommend starting your sightseeing with a ride up the Bica Elevator nearby, offering skyline views over this picturesque city. Next – head to the iconic Pink Street for shops and bars, or make your way to the ever-trendy Bairro Alto area, just a short walk from your door.

Located right in front of Praça da Figueira with views of the square from its Juliet balcony, this apartment puts you in a wonderfully central spot from which to explore Lisbon’s sights. The decor is a pêle-mêle of styles that won’t be to everyone’s taste. And the great locale means street noise is to be expected. However, the interconnecting bedrooms make this spot a good choice for families, as well as those looking to spend their days visiting the myriad cultural hotspots within easy walking distance. 


The Marquis of Jardem

Ideally located in the heart of Lisbon, a short walk from landmarks like Praça do Comércio and the Sé, not to mention mere footsteps from excellent restaurants, this apartment couldn’t be better placed. Thanks to the flexible sleeping arrangements in the second bedroom, this home suits all travelling types. And the fully-equipped kitchen suits those wanting to stay for a longer period. Though if you’d prefer not to cook, your host can provide breakfast deliveries and private chefs as an optional extra.

Perched on top of a renovated townhouse, View & Walkability boasts a fantastic location and a great view from the balcony. Rua de São Nicolau is within walking distance to all the central sights, restaurants, and cafes – but the central location does translate to a vibrant atmosphere that won't suit those who are looking for a tranquil stay. Our favourite hangout spot in this home is the balcony, which is great for a morning coffee, but even on rainy days, the living room gets great natural light. We also loved the eclectic design that mixes the old and new.

With a fantastic location, just a three-minute walk to the picturesque neighbourhood of Bairro Alto, a culinary hotspot, this stylish apartment has a wealth of bars, restaurants and historic architecture right on its doorstep. If you don’t fancy exploring on foot, the famous Tram 28 passes through the district, while the Glória Funicular is just over a five-minute saunter. Back at this modern home – there’s a lot we adore about this place, from the wooden floors and inspirational quotes to the gorgeous bathroom and little windows with cute shutters. The host, Patrícia, has also made a lighting scheme which creates a warm atmosphere – it’s easy to see that she has a love of design. So, relax with a glass of wine at the dining table and enjoy a Portuguese feast. With this home, you can really live like a Lisboeta.

Thanks to its central location in Lisbon's bohemian Bairro Alto, this apartment is the perfect base to explore the Portuguese capital. Walk the winding streets of this neighbourhood to immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of Lisbon. When the hills get a bit too much, you can always hop onto one of the iconic trams as they weave their way through the city. You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. The flat is decorated in a charming Lisbon style, combining natural materials, homespun furnishings and a splash of warm colours to create a stylish home. The bedroom is kept minimal with crisp white linens and pretty prints adorning the walls, so you'll have no trouble getting a good night's sleep here. There's a sleek kitchen with traditional azulejo tiles and a bright dining space for inviting guests over and feasting together. Natural light bounces off the wood floors, creating a cool living space to rest weary legs and unwind with a glass of Rioja.

Unfussy in style, while this home isn’t filled with luxuries, it has everything needed for a comfortable stay and the added bonus of both bedrooms boasting en-suites. That said, it’s worth noting that one en-suite is open to the bedroom, so privacy is limited. Locally, you’ll find the iconic Santa Justa Elevator on the same street, along with an abundance of shops and restaurants.

This one-bedroom apartment probably won't win any prizes for interior design, but it's in a super-central part of town and has two fabulous sun terraces to enjoy. We especially love the direct access to the larger one (which is a proper sun trap!) from the master bedroom.

A lively location, a characterful living space, and stunning views? This pad in the heart of historic Chiado has all that and more, including marbled bathrooms, stylish bedrooms, a fully-stocked kitchen and plenty of space for groups to spread out. The sumptuous L-shaped sofa is enormous – it's perfect for movie nights, afternoon siestas or unwinding with a glass of wine (your host leaves a bottle for you to enjoy), and we loved the eclectic decorations brought back from the host's travels. That said, the star of the show here is the incredible view. From the small balcony and big windows, you can spot the Carmo Convent, Tagus River and even Castelo de S. Jorge in the distance. It'll be hard to pull yourself away from the scenery, but when you decide to venture out, this area is as central as it gets. You're right on the cusp of vibrant Bairro Alto, home to trendy nightlife and bars, but you're also within walking distance to all the must-see sights. Plus, the nearest metro stop is a three-minute walk away.

This Alfama apartment has charm. Access to the home is on a pedestrianised street, so your taxi will have to drop you off nearby – be prepared for a bit of a walk with your luggage. You’ll love waking up to the views over the city, especially since you have access to a private balcony. And while this apartment might show some signs of its 18th-century architecture, it’s a charming spot to call home. We like the rustic yet artistic touches here, particularly the dining room, though we should mention the kitchen is more of a kitchenette. With Lisbon’s diverse array of eateries right on your doorstep, you’ll look forward to dining out at every opportunity. Better still, the city’s cultural sights and waterfront are just steps away.

Old meets new in the most spectacular fashion at this uber-modern apartment perched along a quiet street in Graça, Lisbon's oldest and highest district.

A home for connoisseurs of contemporary design, it's the glass-topped atrium garden taking all the glory here – and rightly so. Cleverly connecting the bedroom and living spaces and flooding the home with natural light, the terraces are an atmospheric place to hang out come day or night.

Inside, the hosts have injected some serious personality and style into this home. Statement lighting and feature walls add interest, while colourful ceramics remind you Lisbon's streets aren't far away. 

Friends or family sharing will love how spread apart the bedrooms feel for added privacy, and there's heaps of space in the living areas. While some of you rustle up a bite to eat in the made-for-action kitchen, the rest can keep you company at the breakfast bar stools or spill out into the lounge.

Lingering over coffees and pastel de natas in the quiet of the atrium, you'd hardly believe how central this home is. If you're looking for an apartment with incredible views of Lisbon, you've hit the jackpot here. Located in the historical neighbourhood of Mouraria, this beautiful home has three balconies to gaze at the view of the city's hills, carpeted in red-tiled roofs. 

We love the grand touches to this home. The high ceilings, gallery white walls, ornate decor, and especially the patio doors and large windows. The natural light pours into the home, while the window on either side of the living room offers a sneak peek of what's to come when you venture out into the city.

If you like to experience a city like a local, you'll love it in Mouraria. It's very close to Baixa, which is the beating heart of Lisbon, yet it's tucked away on a quiet hill of narrow streets and small squares. You can't visit Lisbon without going to a traditional Fado house and swaying to the uniquely Portuguese soulful tunes. Well, the living room has a few artworks and plants, though it still has quite a minimalist vibe, which may or may not suit. That said, it's spacious and the place, on the whole, has been nicely done. All in all, it has everything you need for a comfy stay, including king-sized beds and luxury linens.

Quirky Lisbon

Freshly renovated, this beautiful apartment is the kind of Lisbon home we daydream about. In a period building typical of this ancient part of the city, it's been lovingly brought into the 21st century by owners who clearly care about the quality of the finish. The characteristic Pombalina wooden cage of the stone building shows itself in the open-plan living space. Invented after the great earthquake of the 1750s, it's an architectural structure to ensure stability. It also happens to look really cool. You may also spot some other historic features in the home – an old salting trough in one of the bathrooms, a huge stone fireplace in a bedroom and antique recovered tiles made into large panels that adorn the corridors. At the same time, it's a smart, modern home with luxurious furnishings, and an on-trend black and marble kitchen. We love the views over Lisbon's rooftops from the balcony too. When you're ready to explore you'll be a five-minute walk to Praça do Comércio, which opens up to the Tagus river.
