One of the seven villages making up Herdade da Comporta, Carvalhal offers an array of fantastic restaurants for you to sink your teeth into, no matter what you're craving. Indulge in some retail therapy at designer shops and quaint cafes, and immerse yourself in local life. With two beaches just a light stroll from your front door and tranquil privacy when you return home in the evening, you can't get a much better location than this.

Sublime Seafront

On the wild shores of Portugal’s Atlantic coast, the region of Comporta boasts golden sand dunes, abundant pine forests and miles of spectacular scenery. It’s also renowned for its signature small thatched cabanas – crafted with locally sourced wood and grasses from the riverbanks. There is also a shaded terrace with a barbecue, and your host is on hand to help organise extras like catering and private chefs. Housekeeping is included in your stay and children’s amenities are available on request for an additional fee. From here, it’s possible to walk to the nearest shop, but we recommend hiring a car to explore further afield – the beautiful beaches of Comporta are less than thirty minutes away.

Firstly, we’re in awe of the spectacular garden. Nestled on your own private land, surrounded by verdant pine trees and nature, relaxing comes with ease. Out here, the hours whittle away while you’re relaxing on the sun loungers, taking a dip in the heated pool, catching up on your book on the bean bags, and taking in the scenery. When lunchtime rolls around, grill up a feast of local produce on the barbecue and gather around the pergola-covered bench-style dining table. 

Inside lends itself to any occasion, with the huge windows flooding the home with natural light and the scent of crisp pine hanging in the air. But in the evenings, the fireplace and warm-toned lighting make for wonderful cosy nights spent watching films. And with stylish yet comfortable bedrooms, all of which lead out to the garden, and super sleek bathrooms, the villa continues to impress.

When you want to get out and explore this beautiful slice of Portugal, you’re just 5km from the closest beach and its surfing spots, beachfront restaurants, and sugary white sand. The town is even closer, just 2km away, where you’ll find an array of restaurants and bars. But if you want to make the most of your villa but cooking is off the cards, your host can arrange for a private chef to take care of dinner for you. 

Comporta Dreaming

Just a short stroll from the beach, this home is perfectly located for a refreshing coastal getaway. There's also a private heated pool and a wonderful shaded terrace for alfresco dining. Inside, the rooms combine luxurious comfort and functionality to ensure optimum relaxation. Your host is on hand to help organise extras like a private chef, yoga sessions and local guides. And while it might be hard to leave this coastal sanctuary, it’s a great base for exploring Comporta and the Tróia Peninsula.

We love the distinctly bohemian, even somewhat Balearic feel of this unique holiday home in the coastal region of Comporta in Portugal's scenic Alentejo. It's pretty clear what was at the top of the list for the architect that designed this intriguing home in Comporta – natural light and lots of it. Enormous walls of glass line the sides of the home and the dazzlingly white interior design only accentuates this plentiful natural asset. These huge windows also have the added benefit of looking out to peaceful views of local rice fields, too.

As you can probably begin to tell, it's a rather relaxing address. There are lots of spots in the tropical garden in which to appreciate the local tranquillity, whether on the back of a lounger or while dining alfresco on the table. Whenever the temperature takes a dip, you can head back inside and cosy up next to the contemporary fireplace in the lounge.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the locale, there are vast swathes of golden beaches covering the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 1.5km away, while the nearest town is only 2km away for when you're in need of restaurants and shops.
